M.C. Gill Corporation Group of Companies

The 60 years of success condensed into a singleevening on September 10, 2005 at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel in Pasadena. This was truly a tribute to past and present family, friends, customers, employees and suppliers.

It was certainly not your average anniversary party:from the ladies with their designer ball gowns to thesumptuous dinner and breathtaking décor.

An air of excitement and anticipation filled the balmySeptember night… the stage was set for a memorableevening of dancing, entertainment, fun and tributes.

The theme for this party…..?

What else but a spoof of the James Bond movietitled “License to Gill” with an impressive setting inEgypt amongst sand dunes and pyramids. Therewas the unforgettable greeting by Lilly the Camelwhereupon the Caravan moved through the tunnelof memories into the foyer. Dancing Gypsy girlswere a hit among the men. Guests relaxed whilesocializing and sipping their favorite drinks fromthe hosted Gill Bars…”shaken, not stirred”…and“129 proof” to the delicious hors d’oeuvres thatsent everybody scrambling for more.… Otherguests kept busy having their fortunes told by the palm and tarot card readers.

Aida’s Triumphant March combined with the smashhit of Mike Batt and the London Symphony’srecording of the theme from “Caravans”beckoned the Gill Caravan into the main ballroom.

The milieu of desert, Egyptian artifacts, palms, pyramids and richly decorated tables befitting a Pharaoh was an awesome sight.

License to Gill…After the hilarious video of the James Bond Spoof,Stephen Gill welcomed the guests with his fatherand founder M.C. at his side. The other twoshareholders, Phillip Gill and Debaney G. Lefort, along with members of the Advisory Committee,

retirees and employees with more than 25 yearsof service were introduced to the guests.

A video reflecting some of the humorousmoments from the past was enjoyed during dinner.

The FeastThe six-course dinner was a challenge toeverybody’s waistline this night…no one seemed tocare…An appetizer of herb carpaccio and sautéedshrimp; English pea soup with a parmesan polentacake; salad of hearts of palm and Zebra tomatoesmarinée coupled with red onions and a garlicpepper vinaigrette; entree choices of Chilean seabass served on artichoke ravioli, New Zealand lambwith chanterelle mushrooms and finished with ablack mission fig compote, roasted pheasant breast

and duck cannelloni, summer vegetablestrudel; and the cherry on the cake:

dessert choices between baby gala applebrule, candied apple cake with Calvadosapple brandy ice cream or chocolatechambord mousse with fresh

raspberries in a raspberry saucewas more than satisfying….

7

The Fun …..and the EntertainmentNon-stop entertainment was providedthroughout the evening in which the New Yorkband of Eddy Duchin’s son Peter played aleading roll. A dashing white tuxedo worn byStephen Gill made it easy for all guests to followand dance the night away. Music was intertwinedwith surprise appearances of the follies and stiltdancer groups. The follies kept guests enthralledwith music from “All That Jazz”; Can-Can; MeinHerr; and the unforgettable rendition of the

theme song from “Hello Dolly” in which membersof the audience participated… even our ownvice-chairman of the board, Stephen Gill, gave ita go! The male dancers were all dressed in theirregular M.C. Gill Corporation uniforms. The stiltwalkers kept everybody glued to their seats andhad an elaborate display of colorful outfits thatwere accentuated by the colored darting lights of the evening’s special effect group. When the“drunken” dancer fell on stage the audiencegasped….and then breathed a sigh of relief: thank goodness that was only part of their act! The stilters closed the evening with the music of“Oh, What a Night!”

Adam Bardach’svideos had againentertained our

guests and their spouses and will form a part of thearchives for years to come. His outstanding portrayal ofM.C.’s autobiography is a true reflection of the man behindthe scenes and the reason we all could celebrate the sixtyyears of success in a very elaborate andnonpareil way;

“License to Gill” mirrored the theme of the evening. Thesecrets of success of a corporation that is so well knownand respected around the world: customer comes first, quality products, innovations, trustworthy and dependable.M.C. believed that his wife, Hester, could pull this off…Stephen Gill’s marching orders and requirements were moredirect: the same quality and high standards that were set at theGill Trek 55th Anniversary party…Showing appreciation for a job well done, Stephenpresented Hester with the very rare dwarf form of anEncephalartos horridus (commonly known as cycad).

Unknown to everybody in the corporation, thisspecific cycad originated from South Africa and

is growing in its natural habitat of the EasternCape Province in the county of Alexandria

where Hester’s ancestor’s first settled ontheir ranch in the 1700s. This cycad

will further enhance the vastpersonal collection of

worldwide cycads M.C. andHester already have. A

very appropriate gift!

We have entered the final phase of thecorporation’s life under my command. This corporation, its history and futurelegacy will shortly be in the care of the next generation of Gills.

To them and their prosperity I commit our future. They shall continue thecommitment and follow the path I havepursued. They shall venture on roads I had never traveled before and steer the corporation into exciting new placeswhich are still undiscovered and unknown… for the benefit of all.
