GENERAL INFORMATION Introduction Welcome as a student at the University of Stellenbosch Business School. Your decision to enroll for the MBA course has probably been accompanied with considerable reflection and at this stage your studies will loom as a large unknown factor. The purpose of this general information is to inform you briefly about what you need to know before you arrive on campus. It is thus important that you read this general information carefully. When you know what awaits you, you will hopefully come to the USB calmly and enthusiastically. Commencement of Course Classes for the various MBA-groups commence in 2016 as follows:

Orientation When you arrive on campus, you will meet your programme coordinator, followed by the welcoming speech from the Director of the Business School. You will find the detailed orientation program in this guide. Attendance is compulsory. Course Outlines Material for all modules will be accessible via Learning Hub. For each module a course outline has been prepared. You should study the course outlines carefully and follow the instructions in order to prepare for the sessions. Bookings should be made in advance at the Bellvista Lodge, www.bellvistalodge.co.za or (+27 21 918-4444). Please note that all accommodation must be prepaid or paid on arrival. Academic Opening The Academic Opening of the USB will take place on Wednesday, 20 January 2016 at 18:00 for 18:30. The Management of the USB expects you to attend the opening if you are based in the Cape Town Metropolitan area. A cocktail party in the Winery on campus will follow the official opening. An official invitation will follow in due course. Dress code: Jacket and tie.

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS &

GUIDELINES

Student Username and Password Registered students will receive an username and password. Students will use this single sign-on username and password to access all SU resources. Username: student no (this is the same number as your reference number you have received during the application process) Password: Sun’date-of-birth’ (e.g. Sun19750725) Your password will expire, and therefore must be changed every 90 days. You will receive warnings via e-mail regarding the expiration from 14 days before the 90 day period. In this email, you will receive a link directing you to the password change page (www.sun.ac.za/useradm) Email address Registered students will be issued with a ‘student no’@sun.ac.za e-mail address for the duration of their studies. (e.g. 20943068@sun.ac.za) Emails sent to the student email address will automatically be forwarded to your external email address as supplied by you during orientation. Please Note: Students are responsible for managing their own external email address, failure to update your external email address will result in not receiving communication sent to your @sun.ac.za address.

Internet Access (Inetkey) Internet access can be obtained via any web browser by accessing the following link: https://inetkey.sun.ac.za. For continued access to the internet, ensure that this link remains open while active on the browser. Click on the CLOSE button on the Inetkey web page to disconnect internet access. You are advised to save this URL to your favourites or as a shortcut on your desktop. Loading of internet credits Log into user administration (www.sun.ac.za/useradm), under section: Load Internet Money from Student Account. Internet tariffs Tariff A @ R0.02: Monday-Friday from 08h00-23h59 Tariff B @ R0.01: Monday-Friday from 00h00-07h59, as well as during weekends. Printing The default printer on all open area computers will be the SafeCom printer. The default settings for all printing are double sided (duplex) and in black & white. Should you wish to change the printing settings, it should be changed before printing the document. You can collect your printing from any SafeCom enabled printer on campus by swiping your student card over the SafeCom device located on these printers.

The Safecom print driver can be installed on your personal laptop on request. Please visit the ICT Service Desk for assistance. Loading of printing credits To load Printing Credits, please log into user Administration (www.sun.ac.za/useradm), under Section: Load printing Money from Student Account. Student Cards Students will receive a student card on day of orientation. We provide photos, cards and access to the building. Lost cards will be charged for. Student Software Bellville Park Campus have a Microsoft agreement which allows registered students to purchase Microsoft products at a reduced price. Available Microsoft Product to Purchase: Windows 7 Pro (Upgrade Version) MS Office Pro 2013 MS Visio 2013 MS Visio 2013 Wi-Fi Students must connect their Notebooks and other mobile devices to the BPC Students Wi-Fi network to be able to use US resources (Internet, Printing etc.) Windows 8, Windows 10 and Mac Devices When on Campus, select the BPC Students SSID from the Wireless network connection list. When prompted for Username and Password, please use your single sign-on username and password. Windows 7 Devices Students with Windows 7 devices must configure the Wireless Connection BEFORE the first day on Campus, failure to do so will result in you not being able to connect to the BPC Students Wi-Fi network. Stellenbosch University (SU) and USB fee. The SU tuition fee was increased by zero percent as announced by the government. The USB fee has however been increased by 6% to cover USB’s operating expenses.
