Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard joined Occupy Democracy Pasadenas march and candlelight vigil Saturday afternoon held to
remember the Connecticut elementary school massacre and to garner support for stiffer federal gun control laws.
This is a chance to give witness to a very strong concern, a very strong commitment to take proper actions in the wake of the tragedy
in Newtown, Connecticut, with respect to regulation of guns in this country, Bogaard said. There are steps that can be taken that are
not inconsistent with Constitutional protections.
Those steps are absolutely necessary to protect our young people and to protect others from mass murderers, he said.
Organizer Patrick Briggs said Were standing up for the idea that we have 50 percent more of our work left to do and this is to stand
up for reasonable gun regulation in this country and that means banning assault weapons, closing the gun show loophole, banning
ammo clips that are more than ten bullets in a cartridge.
Saturdays demonstration at 4:30 p.m. and included a march from City Hall to the Paseo Colorado shopping mall.
Mayor Bill Bogaard joined at City Hall and walked the distance.
The demonstrators platform included expanding community mental health options and the immediate passage of the Feinstein Assault
Weapons Ban.
There is a hope that all of this will summon in all of us to make a change that is really significant, said Jane Fellman, one of the
Occupy Democracy Pasadena demonstrators.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif) said she plans to introduce an assault weapons ban on the first day of the new Congress in January,
adding that the same bill will also be introduced in the House of Representatives.
It will ban the sale, the transfer, the importation and the possession, not retroactively, but prospectively, and ban the sale of clips of
more than ten bullets, said Feinstein on NBCs Meet the Press. The purpose of this bill is to get weapons of war off the streets.
President Bill Clinton signed an assault weapons ban into law in 1994, but the measure expired a decade later. Democrats have tried
several times since then to renew the ban, without success.
Ive been for many years feeling that gun control is absolutely essential in America, said Inman Moore, during Saturdays
demonstration. Im one of those who really is not sure the Second Amendment (of the Constitution) is specifically saying that every
person has a right to have any kind of gun they want.

When I was kid I owned guns. I grew up in the South, which was gun territory and still is, Moore said. But we never thought of
as guns as protecting ourselves from other human beings. We werent taking guns to church. We werent taking them to town. They
were locked up in the closet, except when they went hunting.
