May/June 2018 Upcoming Events Dear Parents/Guardians, The end of the school year is rapidly approaching. With the inclement weather and spring break behind us, the last days of the school year will be here before we know it. As we finish out the 2017-18 school year, please continue to work with your child to ensure a successful finish to the academic year. Some things to keep in mind to assist your child with meeting success: Schoolwork- Please help your child remain focused on completing assignments to the best of their ability. Continuing to reinforce the importance of work completion at a high level will build successful habits that will carry over into next year. Proper School Dress- Consider the idea that school is the workplace for our students. Please be sure that your childs attire is appropriate within the CCPS Dress Code. Communication- Please keep in touch with your child and their teachers. It is critical to keep the lines of communication open between you and your child. Please communicate with the school if you need clarification or feel that we can help in any way. Social Media– Please be mindful of your childs access to and use of social media. We continue to see our students engage in inappropriate use of technology that negatively impacts their mental well-being and distracts them from learning. The school calendar is full in May and June. In addition to drama performances, concerts, and field trips, the 3 rd Annual Bulldog Classic will take place on Tuesday, June 5 th . It will include games and events for students outside and within the building. We will be serving a picnic lunch during the day as well. As plans are finalized, please be on the lookout for ways parents can help make this event a success. As the year draws to an end, we will be recognizing the accomplishments of our students and celebrating their success in a variety of ways. Please continue your partnership with us as we meet the needs of each child in our school community. Sincerely, Karl T. Nurse’s Notes "Allergy and Bee" season is upon us. If your child is allergic to bees or has seasonal allergies, make sure your child has taken their allergy medication before coming to school or bring medication to school for bee allergies. It has been reported that this year's tick season will be a bumper crop. Conduct "tick" checks daily. Look and feel all over your skin for new bumps. Check pets as well. Take the proper precautions, wear light clothing, avoid tick infested areas, use bug repellants as directed. Mark the calendar the day a tick was removed as a timeline if a illness would develop. Lyme's disease symptoms: Flu-like symptoms including fever, aches, headache, rash (50% of people develop a bull's-eye rash around the bite), joint swelling and pain, cognitive/behavior changes, and/or intermittent low grade fever and headaches.

Parents - Please make arrangements for your child’s medication to be picked up by the end of the

school year. Anything left behind after Monday, June 18 2018 will be disposed of.

Mt. Airy Drama Club presents

Shrek Jr., the Musical

Friday, May 4 @ 7pm

Saturday, May 5 @ 3:30pm and 7pm

Take a Romp in the Swamp and come see Shrek, Jr. the Musical

“Shrek is a story about friendship, loyalty and embracing yourself and all of your quirks," It follows the

story of one very grumpy ogre, Shrek, who lives alone in a swamp. When the insecure and conniving

Lord Farquad expels all of the fairy tale characters from his kingdom, Shrek is forced into an epic

adventure that will see him joined by an over-enthusiastic talking Donkey and a not-so-by-the-book

Princess Fiona, who has a secret or two up her sleeve. "Shrek JR: The Musical" combines child-friendly

humor, colorful characters and fun music for an event that entertains all ages.
