TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
One of the great treasures of the Eastern tradition is the icon of the Holy Trinity created by the Russian iconographer Andrei Rublev in the 1400s. The Trinity is symbolized by the three travelers to the tent of Abraham and Sarah. They are seated at a table blessing a cup of wine, under the oak of Mamre. If you look closely, you will see a sacrificed calf in the chalice, reminding the viewer of the cross. The table, prepared for eating and tilted toward the viewer, is an invitation to the Eucharist. From left to right, each figure is keyed to a person of the Trinity. Like all icons, this image is theology in art. The persons are equal in proportion and dignity, they all carry staffs to symbolize their power, and are shown with golden wings and halos. Today, the best place to see Rublev’s work is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, at the heart of the vast Holy Trinity monastery about an hour from Moscow. After decades of persecution, it is now once again a living monastery, a world heritage site, and the spiritual home of Russian Orthodoxy. A Google visit is highly recommended today!

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Uno de los grandes tesoros de la tradición oriental es el icono de la Santísima Trinidad creado por el iconografo ruso Andrei Rublev en el siglo XV. La Trinidad está simbolizada por los tres viajeros a la tienda de Abraham y Sara. Están sentados en una
mesa bendiciendo una copa de vino, debajo del roble de Mamre. Si miras de cerca, verás un becerro sacrificado en el cáliz, que recuerda al espectador de la cruz. La mesa, preparada para comer e inclinada hacia el espectador, es una invitación a la Eucaristía. De izquierda a derecha, cada figura está en clave para una persona de la Trinidad. Como todos los iconos, esta imagen es teología en el arte. Las personas son iguales en proporción y dignidad, todas llevan bastones para simbolizar su poder, y se muestran con alas doradas y halos. Hoy, el mejor lugar para ver el trabajo de Rublev es la Catedral de
la Santísima Trinidad, en el corazón del vasto monasterio de la Santísima Trinidad, a una hora de Moscú. On Sunday, June 3rd, we will have a farewell reception for Fr. Juan Luis. Fr. Juan Luis is needed at his new parish earlier than anticipated, so the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd will be his last weekend with us. He will speak at all the Masses. All are welcome to join us from 3:00 - 5:00 pm in Duggan Hall to thank Fr. Juan Luis for his ministry and service at St. Mary Star of the Sea, and to wish him well as he becomes the administrator at Our Lady of the Mount Parish. (Our Blessed Mother will still be watching over him!)
Donations of non-perishable appetizers, finger food, and non alcoholic beverages (waters, soda) will be accepted on Friday and Saturday, June 1st and 2nd in the rectory. Items may also be brought to Duggan Hall on Sunday, June 3rd from 1:00 - 2:00 pm.

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF OUR FAITH Today is a day simply to ponder the fact that in baptism we were claimed by God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The first reading from Deuteronomy prompts us to fix in our hearts the truth that God is the Lord of both heaven and earth and there is no other god. Saint Paul reminds us that, because we received the Spirit of adoption in baptism, we are now children of God. In the Gospel Jesus charges us with the responsibility to make other disciples. These realities make today’s solemnity a day of praise, adoration, and responsibility. It is a fitting day to thank God for the absolutely free gift of faith that we were given in baptism. It is also a day to ask God for strength to take on the responsibility of sharing that faith with others.

LA RESPONSABILIDAD DE NUESTRA FE Hoy es un día para reflexionar sobre el hecho de que en el Bautismo, Dios Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo nos hizo hijos suyos. La primera lectura del Deuteronomio nos insta a anclar en nuestro corazón la verdad de que Dios es el Señor del cielo y de la tierra y que no hay otro dios. San Pablo nos recuerda que, al haber recibido el Espíritu de adopción en el Bautismo, ahora somos hijos de Dios. En el Evangelio Jesús nos encomienda la responsabilidad de encontrar más discípulos. Estas realidades hacen de la solemnidad de hoy un día de alabanza, adoración y responsabilidad. Es un día apropiado para agradecerle a Dios el generoso regalo de la fe que recibimos en el Bautismo. También es un día para pedirle a Dios fortaleza para asumir la responsabilidad de compartir esa fe con los demás.

CONVERTS: RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults begins each year in September, reaches its climax with Baptism or reception into the Church at the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday), and concludes on the fiftieth day of Easter, the feast of Pentecost.
COMMUNION CALLS: Please call the Rectory to arrange for Communion to be brought to the sick.

Las pláticas de preparación bautismal son el 1er jueves del mes (español) y el 4o lunes de cada mes (ingles), en la Rectoria. Papás y padrinos deben asistir. Favor de inscribirse en la Rectoría .
MATRIMONIOS: Los preparativos deberán hacerse al menos con 4 meses de anticipación (antes de contratar el salón de recepción) a modo de tener tiempo suficiente para la preparación e instrucción. Favor llamar a la Rectoría para una cita.
CONVERCIONES: RCIA El Rito de Iniciacion Cristiana para Adultos comienza cada año en septiembre, llega a su cúspide con el Bautismo o recepción en la Iglesia en la Vigilia Pascual (Sábado Santo), y termina en la fiesta de Pentecostes.
LLAMADAS PARA COMUNIÓN: Favor llamar a la Rectoría si necesitan que se le lleve la comunión a algún enfermo.
