1 May is Youth Service Month Sunshine session: Eddie $38.90 was the result from a potpourri of aspects of life. What people did or did not do. Home responsibilities, public library use, and other reading habits were addressed. Parting Thought (found by Paul in his wallet) “The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do!” DUTY 10 th May 31 st May Gear out/intro Andrew Popov Host/Lucky Draw Roger Munn Sunshine session Firesides Katrine Imrie 3 minute talk Paul Rieger Thanks/parting thought Bruce Markwell Scribe Paul Gregg Bulletin 6 May 2017 No.40 OF OUR 58 th YEAR Programme for the next few weeks 10 th May – Firesides: 7:30 Bruce Withell’s 58 James Line (Projects) 5:30 Janice Gordon’s 49 Rennie Ave (Club Admin) 17 th May - visit to Foxton Rotary Club 24 th May – (not yet finalised – discuss at firesides) President Dennis Quinn; Past President Allan Gillingham; President Elect Lew Findlay; Secretary John Gardner; Treasurer Malcolm Busch; Club Administration Director and Webmaster Stuart Birks; Service Projects Director Lew Findlay; Bulletin Editor and Photographic History Eddie Eggers; 9940 District Governor Martin Garcia; Assistant District Governor Christine Jones. A little history "The club began with 25 young members...and according to accounts the proverbial 'bottle of whisky' was often emptied during 'firesides' held at members' homes." I don't know how many attended each fireside in those days, but you can do your own calculation if they had four committees and a few absences... And a quote in a footnote, "The steam that blows the whistle will never turn the wheel." (Drawing on p.10 of Five Thirty Wednesday) 3-Minute talk Dennis While in New Plymouth for conference took the opportunity to do the coastal walk along the seafront to the Te Rewa Rewa bridge which has an international reputation and has won many awards. People go there to meet other people. There’s scope for Palmerston North to have our Bridal Track filling the same purpose.
