TRANSCRIPT
This year as we continue our Year of Vision, we focus on the gifts that God has given to our amazing commu-
nity of faith. We know that without our acknowledgment and use of God’s gifts, we are not able to fulfill the
mission and vision that God gives.
During the next two weeks of our emphasis, we will explore the following:
May 7 “We’re Serving With our Gifts” I Peter 4:1-11
May 14 “We’re Sharing Our Gifts” Mark 12:41-44
May 14 - Consecration Sunday

Thank You Dear Florence Christian Church Family:
We are so grateful for the love you enfolded us in after Nick's
death. No one missed a beat in reaching out to help us in
every way. There are way too many names and I don't want to
miss anyone but I can't even begin to tell you how much it
meant to me and my entire family. We are forever grateful for
your kindness and unconditional love.

"People with mental problems are our neighbors. They are members of our congregations, members of our families; they are
everywhere in this country. If we ignore their cries for help, we will be continuing to participate in the anguish from which those
cries for help come. A problem of this magnitude will not go away. Because it will not go away, and because of our spiritual
commitments, we are compelled to take action." Rosalynn Carter

ONE COMBINED SERVICE
On Sunday, May 14th
, our children and youth will be leading
ONE special service on Mother’s Day! In this special service,
our children and youth will help plan and lead our
worship while sharing their many gifts with the
congregation.
As our Consecration Sunday, the conclusion
to our annual stewardship emphasis, this ser-
vice will explore how we can all share our gifts
in wonderful ways!
Practice will be Sunday,
May 7 at 12 Noon.

“Where can we go to find God if we can not see Him in our own hearts and in every living being?” Swami Vievekananda
If you didn’t get the handout on Earth Sunday,
here is the list to choose just one thing, one
step that you can focus on now to care for the
planet and live in greater simplicity. Please
consider these 10 ideas:
Completely fast for a month (or more)
from shopping as entertainment.
Reduce your energy consumption by un-
plugging “vampire power” items, adjusting
your thermostat several degrees, using cold
water only in your dishwasher, or line-drying
clothes.
Grow food in a backyard garden (and share some of
your harvest with those in need).
Replace harsh chemical cleaners with natural, cheaper
alternatives like vinegar, baking soda or lemon juice.
Commit to shop at a local farmers’ market a few times a
month.
Forego a date night, birthday gift, or spending spree and
instead use the money to support a Christian conserva-
tion ministry like A Rocha or Plant With Purpose.
Find out about local recycling opportunities, then set up
an indoor recycling bin and an outdoor compost area to
reduce your family’s trash output.
Eat simple, plant-based (rather than meat-based) meals
more often.
Turn off the TV more frequently and instead spend more
time outdoors, appreciating God’s world.
Read Almost Amish or Go Green, Save Green by Nancy
Sleeth and pray about next steps.

JUST ONE THING!
Women’s Health Month
You Are Here!
Whether at an outlet mall, the zoo, or
an amusement park, those big signs
with a map of the facility and an arrow
or star that indicate “You Are Here” are
invaluable. Even if you have GPS, your
current location is how all directions are
based. What’s that have to do with
health and wellness? Everything!
A good place to start in moving forward
to improve your health is with a well-
ness check up with your primary care
provider. During this visit, you’ll have
basic screenings including blood pres-
sure, height, weight, and get recom-
mendations for lab tests, and other age
appropriate screenings (i.e. bone densi-
ty and mammogram). Reviewing this
information enables you and your
health care provider to make a plan for
optimizing your health.
Another way to assess where you are is
through a health risk assessment.
Through a brief health and family histo-
ry, in addition to an activity, nutrition,
and stress assessment your lifestyle,
“You Are Here” can be identified. Stop
by the Blood Pressure Screening table
on Mother’s Day to receive your copy of
a health risk assessment to take home
and complete. We will provide instruc-
tions on completing the form, returning
it and scheduling your appointment to
review recommendations for an individ-
ual health plan for you.
In June, our emphasis will be on Men’s
Health, and we will offer health risk as-
sessments for our men!
During the coming year, there will be
opportunities for a variety of nutrition,
exercise and stress management classes
as part of our “Year of Wholeness” to
support our congregation and commu-
nity in the journey to wholeness.

BUILDING A LEGACY
WHO ME?
Do you want your life
to make a difference?
Yes?
How about forever?
There are many ways that followers of Jesus can make
a difference in the lives of those we touch every day as
we demonstrate God’s love and grace by our thoughts,
words and actions. Every Christian is called to the Way
Christ showed us and taught us to live.
One of the many ways we support the mission and min-
istry of our congregation is through our financial giving.
Each year, we are encouraged to offer a pledge of sup-
port for the annual ministry plan that is reflected
through the church budget. This enables us to keep
moving forward to make a difference in our community.
Another opportunity that Florence Christian Church is
making available to “make a difference forever” is
through our Permanent Fund, a continuous stream of
income for mission and ministry in addition to the regu-
lar tithes and offerings of our congregation. Becoming
a “Legacy Builder” is as easy as remembering the church
in your will or naming the church as a beneficiary of a
life insurance or 401K, along with other possibilities.
If you are interested in learning how you can become a
Legacy Builder, please be in touch with Glenna Galbraith
(859-371-1643). We will have a gathering on Wed., May
24th
to learn more.

Children Worship & Wonder Sundays, 9:00 AM & 10:30 AM – Ages 4-7
Children Worship & Wonder is a very special worship experience designed for younger chil-
dren. It is influenced by Montessori ideas and creates a welcoming environment to grow in rela-
tionship with God through ritual, telling our sacred stories, and providing ways for
the children to develop their theological imagination. Children are invited to leave the sanctuary
after the children’s blessing and are escorted to the Children’s Worship Center in the Atrium.
Parents are invited to reunite with their children after the close of worship outside the Children’s
Worship Center in the Atrium.
Kid’s Quest - Sundays, 9 AM and 10:30 AM for ages 8-13 Kid’s Quest is a special worship experience for our older children in an environment of
worship leadership and learning. It incorporates the same scripture as in “Big Church”
and provides children ways to interactively engage with the scripture lesson and the
worship experience. Children are invited to leave the sanctuary during the children’s
blessing and are escorted to the chapel or atrium. After the conclusion of their activi-
ties, they are escorted back into the sanctuary to rejoin their families for communion.

Sunday worship is when all of us gather as the people of
God to praise God, to connect with God and each other.
At Florence Christian Church we encourage children to
begin worship in the sanctuary with their families. After the
music and opening prayer in a Children’s Blessing, one of
the Pastors and the congregation bless the children to con-
tinue their worship in developmentally appropriate envi-
ronments. Special worship activities for children are also
available during both worship services.
Nursery Care: If you have a little one, nursery care is avail-
able at each service, so please make the choice that best
fits the needs of your family.
As always, children are welcome to worship in the Sanc-
tuary for the entirety of worship with their families. We
welcome their wiggles and giggles, cries and coos! They
are beloved members of the family of God.
