May 6, 1996 Volume 14 No . 28 FOR THE S TU DENTS OF THEATER DEPARTMENT TO PRESENT OLD TIME MELODRAMA Come boo the villain and cheer the heroine in the theater department's spring production A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH or ADRIFT ON LIFE'S SEA! an old fashioned melodrama. "Gadzooks! What a beautiful night for a murder!" hisses the villain. Yes, there's plenty of dirty work going on at the crossroads as that fiendish scoundrel, Cassius Carstairs, pursues the pure Carlotta Flower, the persecuted heroine. This farce by playwright Dunstan Weed is a wonderful spoof of all of those Gay 90's vintage "meller-draymas." With tongue in cheek Mr. Weed has incorporated all of the surefire situations used in the oldtime plays. This is great fun for the whole family! Playing the evil Cassius Carstairs is Robin Gieseler. Jaime Feathers will be seen as the winsome Carlotta Flower. Other members of the cast are Jeanne Becker as Ada Cornell, Matthew Butterman as Cokie Joe, Jim Degan as Slick Carter. Katie Goodwin as Dorothea Ramsgate, Troy Green in the part of Burgess Lendahand, Heather Odenweller as Felicia Ramsgate, Lindy Perry, playing both the role of Jenny Lynd and Clarice Kingdon, Joe Watkins as Rodney Ramsgate and Amelia Whetstone will be seen in the roles of both Marie and as Memphis Maisie. Dr. Joe Brandesky is the director and Aimee Bucher will supply the piano accompani . eo is a tradition in a melodrama. Art Stu ent Amy Uppenkamp designed the delightful po'Sfe:flc n:::: ::::::--- the play. The production will be presented on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 at 8:00 pm. and on Sunday, May 19 at 2:00. Tickets will be available at the door. General admission tickets are $5.00, Students - $4.00, and Senior Citizens and children under 11 are $3.00. AL TRUSA CLUB AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS Altrusa International of Lima has awarded $1000 in scholarship funds to campus students. Darcy Coates, a Lima Technical College student and Denise George, a student at Ohio State Lima, will each receive $250. In addition, five Ohio State Lima/Women-in-the-Nineties participants will each receive a $100 book scholarship. These women are: Joyce Gasser, Linda Horstman, Vickie Harris, Marci Parker and Kelly Richards. Altrusa awards scholarships once a year to women who are enrolled in an educational program, are attempting to better their lives, and can demonstrate a need for financial assistance. AIDS AWARENESS WEEK ACTIVITIES Monday, May 6 - The campus Student Senate and the BiGlobal Club in cooperation with the Allen County Health Department, will sponsor free and confidential HIV testing from 11-3 in GA 305. Wednesday, May 8 - Curt Wheeler, AIDS educator for Planned Parenthood of Northwest Ohio will speak at noon in GA 118 on "SAFER SEX!" -how to protect yourself from infection. Immediately following the program, there will be a tree planting ceremony in the front of the Public Services building in memory of those who have died from AIDS. The PAPER MEMORY QUILT will be displayed in Reed Hall Room 160 from 1-5 on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10 ..

SENATE EXECUTIVE ELECTIONS COMING SOON - Do you think you have leadership potential? Would you like a college experience that will sharpen your organizational skills and enhace your post college resume? It you answered YES consider running tor the position of President or Vice-President of The Lima Campus Student Senate for the 1996-97 academic year. Two vice-presidential positions are open, one from L TC and one from OSU . The president's position is open to students from either school. Applications may be picked up in the Student Activities Office GA 066 and are due back in the Office by May 10. Elections will be held May 14 & 15. General elections tor Student Senators will be held the following week May 21 & 22. A total of 20 Senators will be elected, 1 O each from OSU and L TC. Application forms may be picked up in Student Activities and are due back by May 17. Serve the campus, your fellow students and yourself. Become a Senator!

'38 SPECIAL" TICKETS ON SALE NOW

It's the biggest event to be sponsored by the · campus. Tickets are on sale NOW for the "38 SPECIAL" concert on Friday, May 24 at the Allen County Fairgrounds. Ticket prices are $1 o -student, $14 - general admission, in advance, and $18 - everyone, at the door. The popular area band THE INDOORFINS will open the show starting at 7:15. Doors open at 6:00 pm.

OSU JAZZ ENSEMBLE COMING TO TOWN -If you love good jazz you won't want to miss the Ohio State University (Columbus campus) Jazz Ensemble. They will play a concert in the Bath High School Auditorium on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 - Adult, $3.00 - Student and are available in the OSU/LTC Student Activities Office GA 066, at Rettig Music Store, the Bath Music department, and at the door.

BIG BAND BLOWOUT AT MARION CAMPUS -The Marion campus of OSU and Marion Technical College is celebrating MAYDAY '96 on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 with a Band Blowout starting at 7:30 each night.
