Linda Allen: Speech Language Pathologist. It has been such a pleasure to work for Meridian Public School here at Parkview Elementary and also at Magnolia Middle School, and at Harris-Lower Elementary School during these last three years. As a graduate of Meridian High School, Class of 1978, it was a very special experience and opportunity to return to MPSD and provide Speech and Language services to the children and young adults at those schools.

Following my high school graduation, I attended the University of Southern Miss. and received my degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences in 1997. I went on to marry my husband Tommy and had two beautiful daughters, Kristie and kayla.

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to be a part of so many children’s lives (including the Head Start) and it has blessed me beyond measure. I will miss my students and everyone I have had the privilege to work with.

Teacher of the Year

Marilyn Hunter: Parkview Elementary School ELA Educator who loves her Parkview Family and without them she feels she is small, but with them she can grow to be as hot as the sun, shining brightly. She is a graduate of The University of West Alabama with a B.S. in Sociology and a minor in Psychology, MSCE Counseling Psychology and an AA in Pre-Law. Her sons, Xavier, Reginald, and Jemiah are her pride and joy and without them she is nothing. Her Mission is: She was born to help others help themselves. Her Motto: Put you first when necessary, but put God first ALWAYS.

Parent of the Year

Cortez Wilson was born and reared here in Meridian, MS. He is a product of the Meridian Public School District’s class of 2006. Following high school, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi receiving his BSBA degree. The knowledge of current business practices taught at USM is what helped to elevate his critical thinking and communication skills which he uses daily at Citizens National Bank where he is a Compliance Specialist. Cortez is married to Shenekia Wilson and they have two kids currently in the district. He states, “It is my belief that children are indeed our future, but we as parents must be involved in preparing them. We cannot merely rely on teachers. Whether it’s volunteering at your kid’s school or simply communicating with your kid at night, ask them how their day was and if there is something you help them with. Please become more involved in the education process.”
