Dear Parishioners, In the next few weeks we will experience a change in lead-ership from one Pastor to the next. Since 2002, when Fr Peter began his leadership at Christ the King, many changes have occurred. Lake Louise is gone, and we have a beautiful gathering space for our parishioners. Most nota-bly from the Parish Life Center came the opportunity for more spiritual, social and educational gatherings. We have had wonderful retreats such as: Living the Eucha-rist, Marriage Preparation, First Communion, Confirmation, Adult Faith Formation Classes, Foundations of Faith, Cate-chist Training, and more. Some of the social gathering include: monthly hospitality, pancake breakfast, spaghetti dinners, Holiday Fairs, Christ-mas, welcomes and good byes. The PLC has also helped Spiritual Formation through our Holy Thursday Adoration until Midnight. It is also a place for lunch during Scott Hahn, and Charismatic Renewal. These events will keep going strong because they were built on a solid foundation through the commission to “Go Make Disciples”. Thank you to Fr Peter for your vision and leader-ship to create a wonderful gathering space. Yours in Christ, Eileen B. Maggiore, Pastoral Associate

Dear Christ the King Parishioners, As you probably know, Christ the King Parish has formed a transition committee to organize events to welcome Father Jeff and bid farewell to Father Peter and assist our parishioners with the transition of parish leadership. Our transition plans are in full swing; we held our initial meeting on April 5th, and we decided to focus our initial ef-forts on Father Peter’s 25th Anniversary Mass on Friday, June 6th, and the farewell events on Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th. I will be meeting with Father Jeff in the coming days to discuss his Installation Mass and orientation activities, and we will begin planning those events during our next meeting. For the 25th Anniversary Mass and farewell events the committee will be assembling a program booklet, organiz-ing decorations, and planning for a reception after the anniversary mass on the 6th and hospitality after all masses on the weekend of June 7th and 8th. We will be publishing articles in the bulletin in the coming weeks to keep you in-formed about our progress and provide you with information about the transition. If you are interested in contributing ideas or participating in transition activities, please contact me by E-mail: [email protected]. Thank you for your prayers and support as we plan for the next phase in the history of Christ the King Parish. Mark R. Shutock Christ the King Pastoral Council Chairman

Reflecting on God’s Word Sometimes new worlds unexpectedly slip up over our horizon and catch us off guard. One morning we get up, stand at the foot of our bed, look out the window, and oh so briefly think how good it is to be alive; and for a moment we smile to ourselves before resuming the ar-ranging of our day. Or we sit with a friend at a noonday lunch, telling stories and laughing over what our lives have been; and somewhere in the midst of it all we think to ourselves that what is happening right at this moment is worth all the struggles and tears of life. Or we sit by ourselves in the rare quiet of a house that is hardly ever so, and daydream, and think about what has gone on in this house over all the days and years, and realize that more than living has happened here, that love has, and maturing; and then the back door slams and our day re-turns to its tumultuous chaos. These are all moments of grace, moments when the shadows part if only briefly, and we see more clearly than we ever have before that it’s the very presence of God in which we live and move. Then of course the mo-ment disappears, and we’d like to tell someone about it and maybe we try, but in the end our words fall short. After all, how does one find words to explain how for a brief while we walked life with God more consciously than ever before? I find myself wondering if that was part of what took place as Cleopas and his friend found themselves joined by a stranger on their journey from Jerusalem to Em-maus. How could they not know this stranger was Je-sus? Maybe the grace of it was that through faith they came to recognize the Lord Jesus among them, and it didn’t much matter whether that dawning of light came quickly or slowly. What did matter was that it happened.

Easter Prayer Lord, out of the depth of your love you

called us to new life in Christ. As we rejoice in the resurrection, may our lives

and our work together echo the many gifts you have blessed us with a purpose.

May all our being resound the glory of your name. Alleluia. Amen

Annulments in the Catholic Church: The Myths and the Reality

The annulment process in the Catholic Church can be difficult to understand. However, having correct in-formation can help to reduce the fears and anxieties surrounding it. If you or someone you care about has questions about annulments, please come to the June 14th morning presentation, Annulments in the Catho-lic Church: The Myths and the Reality. The morn-ing takes place at St Martin of Tours in Kankakee be-ginning at 9:30 and ending at noon. Desiree Marciani, the Associate Director of the Office of Family Ministry of the Diocese of Joliet, will facili-tate the presentation. Desiree is a well-known leader in divorce ministry and in helping people to understand the annulment process. She herself went through the annulment process. Desiree and her husband, Deacon Tom Marciani, are the co-authors of Returned to Peace: The Spiritual Benefits of Annulment. If you wish to attend please register by calling St Mar-tin of Tours Parish at 815-933-7177.

Pray For Fr. John Guiney

Please pray in thanksgiving for Fr. John Guiney, faith-ful priest and friend to all. Pray for Fr. John as he awaits to go home to God. We thank him for his contin-ued service to the church of Joliet through his suffering and pain. As Scripture tells us, “Well done good and faithful servant.”

Let us pray through the in-tercession of St. Joseph, pa-tron saint of a happy death, that together with Mary, the mother of all priests will present Fr. Guiney to God one day. Please pray a dec-ade of the rosary each day for Fr. John. Details will follow later. Fr. Peter Jarosz Deacon Frank

…."In every age there have been men and women who, obedient to the Father's call and to the prompting of the Spirit, have chosen this special way of following Christ in order to devote themselves to Him with an 'undivided' heart. Like the apostles, they too have left everything behind in order to be with Christ and to put themselves, as He did, at the service of God and their brothers and sisters. In this way, through the many charisms of spiri-tual and apostolic life bestowed on them by the Holy Spirit, they have helped to make the mystery and mis-sion of the Church shine forth, and in doing so have contributed to the renewal of society." STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE

Dear Parish-ioners of

Christ the King,

As the 2014 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) continues to progress, I am pleased to write you and re-port that to date the CMAA has raised close to $5.2 mil-lion in dollars pledged of our $6.2 million goal. Over 26,000 households in the Diocese of Joliet have re-sponded to this year’s appeal so far. In the past, you have been an important part of our suc-cess. I am reaching out to you again this year with hope that you will help us achieve our goal. Your support will help spread the Gospel across the seven counties of the Diocese of Joliet. Additionally, it will help feed and clothe the disadvantaged, provide Catholic Education to children and adults, shelter the homeless, and educate future priests. These and many other CMAA-funded ministries touch every parish in the Diocese of Joliet, including your own. The theme for the 2014 CMAA is “Trust in the Father’s Care.” Today I am asking you to do just that: to trust in God’s abundant bounty. Participating in the CMAA is an opportunity to share in the good works of the Church, and – inspired by gratitude – to give back to the Lord a portion of what he has given to you. If you have already made a contribution to this year’s appeal and my letter is crossing with your response in the mail, please disregard this letter and accept my most sin-cere gratitude and appreciation. However, if you have not had a chance to make a pledge, I ask that you consider doing so using the enclosed form or through the website at www.jolietdioceseappeal.org. The enclosed brochure provides information on how your precious resources will be used to spread the Gospel and help others. Please join me in placing your trust in God the Father. Thank you for your generosity and be assured that I will continue to pray for you and your loved ones. May the Lord bless you with a joyous Easter season!

Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon Bishop of Joliet For all those who have not pledged, there are envelopes in the narthex. We thank those who have pledged and sacrificed much for our Diocese.
