Networking the World
Verizon, having the title of The Fastest 4G Network in America, is planning to affect their smartphone customers by using automatic updating of data plans to their advantages. They will be switching all users to tiered plans when they upgrade creating more profit than their unlimited data plans.
As the updates start affecting larger amounts of people, Verizon will discontinue us-ers who continue to go on their unlimited data plans as they buy another smartphone. Verizon stopped new customers from switching across unlimited data plans over a year ago. At the JP Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom conference in Boston, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo already announced Verizons new data sharing pricing model, to be out by mid-summer. The new data allotment will be able to be linked to multiple devices under the same account.
Also, as the unlimited world of data is becoming farther and farther away, the new trend is data-sharing. Along with other carriers, AT&T continues to serve their custom-ers will their old unlimited offering especially as data usage is based on their 4G-LTE network with HD video downloads an d machine-to-machine conversations.
However, aside from this update, cell phone bills are not the only change in the technology. The Next iPhone rumor is being said that the new model will have a larger screen according to sources on Wall Street. Apple has leaked out idea of four-inch screens, from their original 3.5 inch screen since 2007.
With these updates, Apples iPhone will be coming out this fall.
Finally, these new changes may not affect many direct public members, but as a large sum of American mobile communications is being taken over by smartphones the range of the affected varies. However, smartphones are much more popular than dumb phones now as well.
For the first time ever, more than half of American mobile customers own a smart
phone with many of the similar apps being identical as well. Android devices and iPhones grew over 28% over the past year, and on average, each user with about 41 apps per phone.
Along the idea of data usage, smartphone users spend about 39 minutes per day using one or more of their apps, which is up about 10% from last year. Even more dependency-related, a recent Google study shows that more people would rather give up their own computer than their smartphone showing in what direction people are going towards.
Nokias recently discontinued Symbian fell, but the Finnish mobile companys re-placement, Microsoft Windows Phone also lost share. Depending on the team, Win-dows phones were up in share about 1.9%as BlackBerry is struggling as their market share was down 2.6% from a year earlier.
Finally, the number of iPhone and Android users doubled in the United States over the past year. Globally, Apple and Google smartphones grew by nearly 26 percentage points. Seeing that they now control 79% of the market, the networking is going some-where and it is related to two separate companies: Google and Apple.

ASK DUCKY
The New England Korean NewsEnglish Version English Editor: Eugenia Kim
Dear Ducky,At my middle school, there is a girl in 8th grade and she just moved from Korea. I grew up here in Boston, so I know lots of Korean people through church but I cant speak Korean, I can just understand it. Because of the cul-ture here, I always call my friends who are older than me by their first name. Apparently, this isnt the case in Korea.
So, one day, the new girl saw me saying hi to a few 8th graders who are older than me the girl threatens me and yells at me for not calling my friends Unni. I heard some-where that I should do that, but that was in Korea. I do that in Korea, but not here. Anyways, then she proceeded to tell me that I was rude and very, very gun-baang-jeo. I understand the respect courtesy in Korea, and I apolo-gized to my friends. My friends were a little creeped out by the new girl. Although this happened, I think is way too strong to threaten me because I said their name, let alone in the United States. I think that people from Korea should try to fit in more when they come and not think
that they are smarter and prettier than everyone else. Ko-reans should support each other, and not try to bring each other down. Do you think that this was normal for me to get yelled at? I really do understand the courtesy and I apologized, but I still felt a little annoyed that this new girl called me out on being all rude and mean.Sincerely, Scary Koreans
Dear Scary Koreans, It is very important to address girlfriends older than you as unni but you are right, it almost seems too much to start a threat. The new girl may be a little protective of her own heritage because she left to come to a new place. Also, the new girl may be targeting you just because you are the younger person I think that she might have thought that she could threaten you. She might also have thought that because you are Korean you should know. Either way she was trying to be helpful, except she is a little dangerous. I would actually stay away from her, un-less you become close friends but in the meantime call your older friends as unni. Good luck! Ducky
Dear Ducky, I will be graduating in May from middle school and I am really excited, but I really do not want to go to high school. I dont want to start studying for my SAT, worry about grades, and other stuff that come along with being a high schooler. There are so many things that I have to worry about! I feel like I am aging a lot every year and yet I am
short and timid. Help me!Sincerely, Timid Freshman
Dear Timid Freshman, High school is a stressful four years for many, but we all get through it! In many ways high school is much better than middle school, and in times of darkness you should always remember that. Next year when you become a freshman, you may have overlapping tests, projects due one day apart, etc. But everyone gets used to it. As long as you use your time wisely, take notes in class, and study ahead of time you will be flying through high school un-til you reach senior year. Enjoy your eighth grade year.Have fun! Ducky
Dear Ducky,Whenever some big event is coming up and I am a part of it I worry too much. In fact, I always worry too much. Right now, I am preparing for a piano competition and the data just keeps getting closer and closer. I cant sleep enough, I cant eat enough, and I cant even study. Am I too nervous? When does someone know they are two nervous and that it might give a negative effect to the final
product? I need to practice!Sincerely,Shaky Pianist
Dear Shaky Pianist, You should go practice after you read this newspaper, but before that I think you are definitely way too nervous.
Not eating or sleeping, or I guess not being able to con-centrate are big issues that will make all of your hard practice go to waste. Too much stress from a competition will show in your music and judges will try to make you feel better, but it will still show up as either a mistake in your piece or stressed notes. The music flows with how
you feel and therefore you should try to relax and prac-tice for the competition. Youll do great! Ducky
Dear Ducky, I dated a guy two years ago and we had a rocky relation-ship. The relationship seemed like a great idea at first, but
as interferences came in the way, a mutual close-to-hate came up, and we broke it off within four weeks of official
dating. Officially dating in modern terms seems to be, be-ing Facebook official, but it really ruined our relationship.
Now that it has been two full years, and we are away from
the awkwardness break ups sometimes bring, I would like to go back into the dating force, however no one seems interested. I never show interest first in a guy, because I
have always felt that it is a mans thing to do, however Id like someone to lean on when I am tired or sad. How can I be Facebook single again, and ready to move on from my past relationship mishaps? Sincerely, Moving on
Dear mover, Truthfully, it is hard to tell people you are available be-sides holding up a sign above your head everyday stating it. Also, relationships should be a commitment through love, not because you just need a random guy to lean on. It may because you are trying too much, that no one is interested. If someone tries to get a relationship, that is never an ethical thing to do, or does it end up with a guy who sincerely cares for you. When you are tired or sad, lean of your friends, parents, or siblings who are always there for you whether you break up or not! It is pos-sible to want a boyfriend for these reasons, however sin-cerely your significant other should be there because you
have loved them, not because they seem interested in you. The Relationship Duck
Dear Ducky, I go to a hagkwon here in Massachusetts for math, but I do not like the learning environment. I came to the United States after middle school in Korea, but there is definitely
more competition here than in Korea. I hate this type of environment; it makes me feel so bad at everything. Also, my parents and others get involved and everything be-comes a competition. I dont like it, what do you think? Sincerely, Competitor #4
Dear Competitor #4,You are completely correct. Competition seemingly cre-ates better more effective learning styles however, to many students it usually brings about a downfall, and fails in education. This method of competition is best if a teacher would like bring one student out of say four, to become amazing, but the rest may not succeed. Competi-tion is a risky way to teach because there are many dif-ferent ways that it can jump to. It may not always bring the best in everyone. Study hard!Ducky

Once upon a time in the south-western part of the Ko-rean Peninsula, there was a lazy boy who lived with his old mother. His father passed away right after he was born. So the mother had to do all the farming while raising and taking care of the boy by herself. She was very devoted to her son. She cooked his favorite foods and did everything he wanted.
However, the boy did not appreciate it. He did not un-derstand how much his mother wanted him to be a success in the future. She sent him to a classroom to learn to read and write. After a few days, however, the boy quit and just stayed in his room lazing around. He was a very lazy boy.
When a village elder would ask him to do an errand, he would pretend not to hear. Every time his mother asked him to do something, he would not do it because he was so lazy.
One day the mother was working on the farm and she needed help. She said, Im so tired right now itd be great if you could help me, son. No, I cant do it, mom, I dont know how! said the boy, and went back to his room to sleep.
When she made him dinner after her hard work, he always complained, There is no meat! Your food is aw-ful! Why are we so poor unlike others! All he did was complaint and he slept. It hurt the mothers feelings, but she had a hope that someday he would change.
On a hot sunny day, the mother was doing the farm work and she could not do it by herself anymore. Son, I need your help. This is too much for me right now, she exclaimed. I cant, mom, I have never done this! said the boy.
The mother told him that if he obeyed her and helped her, he would receive a blessing from God. Ill teach you. Lets do this together, the mother said. Her son replied, Mom, go do it by yourself, I have to take a nap. and the boy went back to his room to sleep. I have to sleep, do it by yourself, and he lied down. The mother could not take it anymore.
If you dont listen to me and just sleep everyday you should leave this house and see how other people live,
said the mother. When the boy heard this, he became sad so he shouted at her, You hate me! You hurt my feel-ings! and left the house right after.
The boy walked for a while and came upon a market place. He became very excited because there were unique things that people sold. There were herbs, roots, plants, paper fan, grains, straw shoes, leather shoes, flower shoes,
many varieties of colorful materials, puppies, and even ti-ger skins. The boy was so thrilled by the whole scene that he thought to himself, Gee, Im glad that I left home!
There was an old man just sitting there and he was sell-ing masks of cows and the boy went up to ask him what it was. When he asked why the old man was selling masks of cows, he said that if the boy puts it on, he would not have to work at all, and would live a good life.
The boy immediately put on the mask before someone else did and something weird happened. The boy turned in to a real cow! The boy was frightened. Old man, what is going on? What happened to me! yelled the boy, but in reality he sounded like Moo! Moo! Please make me be-come a human again! All the people could hear, however, was the cry of a cow.
The old man whipped him every time he cried aloud and told him to be quiet. This cow makes so much noise, Im going to sell him to someone else! exclaimed the old man, and he went out to the other side of the market to sell him. After he sold the cow to a farmer, he explained, This cow is very lazy. But if you whip him hard he can be a heck of a worker. The only way to get him to work is to whip him hard every day. He emphasized, Do not ever give him a radish or he will die right away. Then the old man left quickly.
The farmer thought to himself, This cow is very strange...... The lazy boy, as a cow, had to work every day even if it was really hot or raining. The more he tried to rest, the more the farmer whipped. He always tried to talk to other people saying that he is a human being, not a cow, but nobody understood.
The boy started to understand how well his mother raised him and how hard she worked for him. However, it was too late for him. He did not realize what he had until it was gone. I should have appreciated what mother did, and helped her out. I shouldnt have complained about my food. I shouldnt have been so lazy. I shouldnt have slept so much. I should have worked hard, thought
the boy.
One day the boy was crying because he missed his mother. The farmer saw him crying and whipped him even harder than before. Everyday the work became harder and harder for the boy and the farmer never stopped whipping him.
He could not take it anymore and decided to eat a radish. He started to run at a pile of radishes and the farmer tried to stop him, but nothing was on the boys mind but eating them. As soon as he had a bite, surprisingly, he turned back into a human being! The farmer could not believe what he just saw and he felt terrible about what he did to the boy after he heard the explanation.
The boy went back home and his mother was so happy that she was dancing and told all the neighbors that her son came back. Im sorry, mom, for taking things for granted and not appreciating the things you did for me, cried the boy. The boy went back home and his mother was so happy that she was dancing and told all the neighbors that her son came back. Im sorry, mom, for taking things for granted and not appreciating the things you did for me, cried the boy.
Its okay, son. Im happy that you realized it. Lets eat for now and rest, said the mother. They had the best dinner that night and they were happier than anyone else.
In the next morning, the boy woke up earlier than his mother and started working. He worked hard every day and helped his mom. A few years later, he became the most hard-working person in his town. People were amazed about how he changed
The boy thanked the old man for what he did to him and he learned that, if he behaves lazy, he will be punished and if he works hard, it will pay off in the end. The boy mar-ried a beautiful, smart, wise, and kind lady. They and the mother lived happily ever after.
