Steve Jobs said, “Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team ofpeople.” New initiatives require teamwork and collaboration among many people and departmentsregardless of business sector.
In addition, technology-enabled solutions require people, processes, data, and integrations. Theserequirements and their consraints limit how quickly solutions reach implementation. Technology, as it mayseem, is not always plug-and-play simple.
For example, the project to upgrade campus worksations to Windows 10 began more than a year beforeupgrading the frs worksations. Projects involve defning problems, determining goals and success factors,determining the technology to implement, how to implement the solution, process redefnition,documentation, security tess, tes plans, communication plans, and much more. This is all in conjunctionwith keeping-the-lights-on activities.

To avoid some of the consraints around people, processes and time, I encourage you to involve IT earlyand often in your conversations around improvement eforts, especially when involving vendors. Let ushelp you implement the bes solutions for the problems you are solving.

Tech Tip: Print to PDFDo you need to keep emails or print information from a website for documentation, hisorical or archivedpurposes?
If so, there is no need to print a paper copy. You can choose an environment-friendly option and convertthe email or website to a PDF.
To convert an email to a PDF:
1. select the File tab; and then2. select Save as Adobe PDF.
In addition, you may also:
1. select the File tab;2. then select Print from the File tab options; and then3. select Microsoft Print to PDF or Adobe PDF.
If a program has a print option available, you can print to PDF.

Security Tip: Email Security, Part 1This month we begin a series focused on keeping you and your email secure. We begin with the subjectline of your email, specifcally your word choice.
Did you know there are several words and phrases that you should try to avoid in your subject line? Manyemail providers attempt to identify spam, phishing, and fraudulent messages before allowing delivery to therecipient.
Spammers use words such as Hi, Hey, Hello, Alert, Help, Urgent, and Loan frequently because they arewidely used and they hope it will get los in everyday emails. The email provider will send these suspectedspam emails to a Junk folder or prevent their delivery all together.
Tips1. Use personalized and specific subject lines that give a better overview of why you are emailing, such as
“Just saying Hi” or “[Name], I need your help,” etc.2. Personalized subject lines are harder for spammers and phishing emailers to mass-produce.3. More descriptive subject lines typically go through email systems without receiving a Junk or Spam flag.
When receiving email, always be cautious! Read the email, if you quesion it, contact the sender via phoneor alternate method to validate they sent it to you or forward the message to the IT@Sam Service Desk toresearch its validity.
