MESSAGES FROM THE IT DEPARTMENT Many of you have embraced the usage of cloud based storage for sharing information with people inside and outside the organization. While I.T. does not block the use of services such as Drop Box, Sky Drive, etc…, we do highly recommend using Google Drive through your Mesa County account. Google Drive is managed and supported by Mesa County I.T., whereas other storage sharing services are not managed or supported by Mesa County I.T. and may violate Federal or State policies such as HIPPAA, PII, and CJI. Please use caution when sharing any information to ensure you are not putting yourself, Mesa County or Mesa County customers in jeopardy. If you have questions about how you can utilize Google Drive to complete your tasks, please do not hesitate to contact the MC IT Help Desk. [email protected] 970-683-4200 If you are using Google Drive you can now disable downloading, printing, and copying from the advanced sharing menu. This is perfect for when the file you're sharing contains sensitive information that you don't want shared broadly or leaked. This new option is available for any file stored in Google Drive, including documents, spreadsheets, and presentations created with Google Docs. To enable this feature, open the sharing dialogue from any Google document, spreadsheet, presentation, or other file inDrive on the web and click on Advanced in the lower right hand corner. Check the ‘Disable options to download, print, and copy for com-menters and viewers’ box and click Save changes.

Notes:

This feature can be enabled by file owners only, and on the web only

Once this feature is enabled, all entry points for downloading, printing, and copying will be removed

from GoogleDrive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides on all platforms. Google documents, spreadsheets, and presentations for which this feature has been enabled will show a notification at the top of the File and Edit menus

Amanda Polson, Bobbie Gross, Sundae Montgomery, Patti Inscho, Tamela Spelts and Jesse Redmond tabulated 4 municipal elections and conducted 6 logic and accuracy tests April 5, 2016 in just under an hour!

Palisade arrived first at 7:55 PM and Collbran arrived last at about 8:30 PM. We assist these small municipalities by formatting their ballots, supplying envelope packets, tabulate their ballots and hand them their official re-sults. They benefit from our buying power because we bid their elections out with our large ones.

In 2012 and 2014 we tabulated and tested for the same 4 municipalities but didn’t pull out of the parking lot until nearly midnight. Last night we were skipping out of the door (OK, maybe not skipping) but walking out with heads held high at 9:15 PM!

This team continues to impress with ingenuity, innovation and perseverance!

Much appreciated Elections crew!

Time to start planning your garden. Here’s an idea….why not “Grow Another Row”. This concept has been going on in the valley for several years now. All the produce from the other row can be donated to the lo-cal food banks and charities. The Tri River location is a drop off site. They will be in touch with the organizations for pick up. Thank you in advance for your generosity! Ascochyta Leaf Blight of turf: Straw colored patches of dis-eased turf will appear on drought-stressed turf during May. Begin: a lawn watering schedule that is deep and infrequent based on the water needs of the turf. Apply treatment for Ash Borer between now and May 10. Leafcurling Aphids: These aphids will start to appear on plums, peach, honeysuckle and other plants. Inspect and treat if needed. Fertilize Cool Season grasses. Even if you fertilized in the fall, you will only need to fertilize lightly this spring. 1/2 lb of Nitrogen per 1,000 sq foot area of turf. Don’t know what type of grass you have, call the Master Gardener desk. Sprays to protect Apple and Pear fruit from Codling Moth should be started about two weeks after petals fall. Three to four inches of mulch around plants is recommend-ed. Be sure to soak the ground before applying the mulch to cool the ground. Be careful that you do not over water plants in areas that are mulched. Check the soil moisture content under the mulch before watering. Overwatering trees and shrubs is a common problem. While these woody plants would like a thorough soaking on occasion, it is important that these plants not be kept wet all the time. Ok to start pruning back roses . Make the pruning cuts at a 30 to 45 degree angle, 1/4 inch above a bud eye, leaving about 6 to 8 inches of the cane. In order to keep the center of the plant open for better air circulation and light penetration, these cuts should usually be made to an outward facing bud eye. With all these precautions in the spring, gardening can be overwhelming, please enjoy your time in the garden. All other gardening questions, please call a Master Gardener at the Extension office at 244-1836.

What’s Happening In The Garden?

Help Desk's tip:

IT would like to remind everyone that you should never save information di-rectly to your hard drive. This in-cludes your directories named desktop, downloads, libraries and docu-ments. We cannot backup your local hard drive. The potential for losing this data is very high and in the past few months we have seen a rise in loss due to hard drive failures. This is a frustrating situation for everyone in-volved.

All files should be saved to the net-work on your p:, s: or in some cases the x: drive. Google Drive is also a great location as users can access it from an-ywhere on almost any device. If you are unsure of where your documents are being saved, if you need assistance moving data from your local drive or if you need assistance getting files into Google Drive, please contact the help desk.
