Thank you all for coming to the SVAS Picnic. We had a great variety of music and musicians. I can’t remember when we had so many different people playing for us. It was a great musical session. I did have some comments from you folks about the event that I would like to pass on. As you know our entrance fee this year was waived. This $ 5.00 charge is used to pay for the room. Because we went through the HHB food line we were not charged for the room. This was the good news but I saw that many people did not have lunch. I had a comment that it was nicer when we had it catered and the food was available in our room. This of course would restrict the selection and be a bit more expen-sive. I would like some feed back on this from whomever has a comment to make.

The second comment I heard was that people liked the layout of the chairs with the band on the dance floor. In June we will have to do it this way because of the size of the orchestra that will be playing. In general if you like this layout let us know and we can do it some of the time or everytime.

I wish to thank Barbara Corsiglia for organizing the players. She did a great job on this and keeping up with the staging.

I hope to see you enjoying Boogie on the Avenue in downtown Campbell next week. Your Club bands will be there playing for two days to raise funds for our Club. Ken

Please invite your friends to join our SVAS Musical

Event The more the Merrier

We all love music, espe-cially Accordion Music

Please plan to see your SVAS Accordion Bands at BOOGIE ON THE AVENUE on: May 16 th & 17th in Downtown

Campbell, CA

It was fun to hear Marcia Coullahan start out our May picnic music with Julida Polka, Yessir That’s My Baby and Five Foot Two. Next, Sue played a couple of waltzes. Then Sandie Walters played You Belong to My Heart, Fascination and when she played Tick Tock Polka, I saw feet tappin’to the beat. Bill and Gloria Tapogna took us “back in the day” with By the Light of the Silvery Moon. With the Italian love song, Bill displayed good glissando at the end note. Gloria adds definite note tone with her recorder. They played Red Sails In the Sunset and Where the River Shannon Flows. Eric Scheel also displayed good glissando on the first few notes when he played Hernando’s Hideaway. Roldan with his bass saxophone, accompanied Eric as they played Whatever Will Be Will Be, Pennsylvania Polka, Amore and Tennessee Waltz. Ray and Roldan’s wife danced to that one. Ivan Klitgaard played My Darling waltz, a melody that he found on sheet music that a generous lady SVAS member donated a while back. Then he played Party Time Polka. When he played Helena Polka, he did a good job shaking the bellows and emphasizing the notes.

Roldan Vigil played Let Me Call You Sweetheart, and he gave it a good jazz-style ending. Then he played I Want a Girl Just Like the Girl That Married Dear Old Dad, and how often do we hear that one? I love it. Then he played Baby Face.

Doris Sprugasci entertained us with the Janets Waltz and Julida Polka. Then Bill Tapogna joined her and they played El Rio Drive Polka and Tick Tock Polka fabulously!

Ron Harris played Sin. When he played I’m In the Mood For Love, we were singing that one. Roldan, with his saxophone, joined Ron. When they played Moonglow, Godfather Waltz and Pretend, Roldan included good jazz-type notes at the ends of each piece. Ron chose a couple of melodies I’d never heard before and I’d love to hear them again, including Sin and Pretend.

President, Ken Caple, displayed great glissando with the first notes of the French melody he played Petite Fluer. Then he played the Pagan Love Song, then Elmer’s Tune and Samba de Orfeu.

William DeMichelis, Dick Siudzinski and Roldan played I Don’t Know Why I Love You Like I Do, and we sang that one. When they played Cruising Down the River, Norma Zonay-Parson sang it. And when they played Anytime, the audience asked Norma to sing that one too, so she did, very well. Their last one was the Beer Barrel Polka, and we really enjoyed that.

Dennis Judd played Fascination, Julida Polka and Skater’s Waltz. And it’s been a while since we’ve heard that last one, so it’s good to hear it again.

Bill and Gloria Tapogna and Vic and Barbara Corsiglia got together and played Basin Street Blues. When they played Bourbon Street Parade, Vic sang that one. They played Dallas Blues. Then, again, when they played Doctor Jazz, Vic sang that one. They finaled with Muskrat Ramble. I want to learn that one.

Ivan Klitgaard played Let Me Call You Sweetheart, the Jalisco. When he played Ah Marie, he displayed good note emphasis. He played a Latino polka called Marianna and finished with Day Ranchero.

Doris, William and Bill played El Rio Drive Polka, O’ Detto al Sole and Iupali Iupala, three very happy up-beat melodies. Fun! Ron Harris finished off with All Of Me. And Sandie and Sue finished off with You Are My Sunshine, and some folks sang to it.
