The Bible And SOAP
In 1837 Samuel Morse invented a code that
eventually made possible the worldwide
development of electric telegraphs. Using a
series of dots and dashes to represent different
letters, a sender encodes his message and taps
it out on a Morse key. The receiving operator is
trained to use the Morse Code to translate the
dots and dashes into letters and thus to decode
the message.
One of the most wonderful uses of this system
was told to me by a classmate in Seminary.
Jerry Singleton was a US airman who was shot
down over North Vietnam and imprisoned in the
prison known as the Hanoi Hilton. He spent
seven years as a prisoner of war, most of that
time cut off from contact with other US
prisoners. The prisoners found a way to
communicate with one another, however, using
Morse Code to tap out messages to one
another on walls and water pipes. Over the
years the prisoners tapped out passages of the
Bible they remembered, and Jerry and other
inmates wrote their own copies of the Bible on
scraps of paper.
In this wonderful way God’s message was
encoded and decoded and hungrily read by
men who knew they needed to hear from God.

The Bible And SOAP continued…
In this wonderful way God’s message was
encoded and decoded and hungrily read by
men who knew they needed to hear from
God. And this is a wonderful illustration of
the process God has used to communicate
Himself to us. God created three primary
ways to communicate with us: through
nature, through the Scriptures, and in the
Person of Christ Jesus. God gave us the
Bible by encoding His Word to us, and by
providing a way for us to decode the
message through the inspiration of the Holy
Spirit.
Many of our members have learned a
simple system for reading the Bible in a way
that it sticks in our minds. It follows an
acronym SOAP. S = Scripture. O =
Observation (What does the passage say?).
A = Application (What does it say to me?).
P = Prayer (What is my response to God?).
Here’s how to start: Begin reading the Bible
at the Gospel of Matthew. Read a chapter a
day and write down the verse or verses that
speak to you. Then follow the SOAP
process. You will experience the joy of
hearing directly from God!

TUNGSETH REPORT
In 2005 to 2010, we shared the role of Directors of
Operations for Africa, Central Asia and the Middle
East. In 2010, we finished the operations training and
turned it over to the national staff. We joined Global
Media Outreach for 2 years, sharing the Gospel and
discipling people over the internet throughout English
speaking countries. Joan is still involved in this ministry
as a Community Leader, mentoring online
missionaries, sharing her faith and encouraging new
believers in their new walk with the Lord.
We currently are assigned to the Great Commission
Global Prayer Movement at our International
Headquarters in Orlando, Fl., which is part of the CCC
Global Leadership Office. Our assignment covers a
wide range of opportunities to serve both our US and
Global staff. Our focus is on helping our African staff
share and implement the prayer training they have
received from our team, gather prayer needs from each
of their countries, and pray for the prayer champions
throughout the continent. We also are part of the
intercessor prayer team, praying on-site at Global
Leadership meetings and conferences. We attended a
Prayer Congress in the Ivory Coast, French-speaking
West Africa in October 2013. We prayed for several
days with 777 attending from 13 countries. We also
visited several orphanages, bringing in medical items,
toys and Gospel Bracelets.
In July, of this year, we traveled to Kenya where we
visited ZOE orphans, learning to care for themselves.
We had an opportunity to share the Gospel, prayer
skills, and observe how they were making their
community a better place to live. We met with a staff
couple and shared what we were learning on prayer,
visited our new Team Leader in the area and held a
training for Maasai Pastors. On Sunday we both spoke
at a Maasai Church. The pastor and his wife are dear
friends, who we have known since 2003. We thank you
for your faithful support and your friendship.
Respectively submitted, Dorothy Kuster

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH:
Mother's Day... a time for warm thoughts
and fond memories, for expressing
the feelings and words that often go unspoken,
for letting those special people
in our lives know that they are loved and appreciated -
always.
It is always good to remember our Mothers – especially on this day.

House of Children Missions
By God’s grace we at HOC have seen in the last 2 years a concerted effort from our missions’ family to achieve a solid foundation to grow in their faith and spread the good news by reaching out into nearby communities and beyond. In this article I hope to share their dedication in achieving this goal.
• In March I accepted an invitation to accompany Pastor Hector, his brother Henry and 4 young men from his rehab center; Guillermo nickname (Mamo) Louis, Zack and Erin on a 9 day missions trip to San Jose del Cabo.
• 3:30 AM on April 1, after prayer and a quick cup of Coffee we were off. 615 miles later we reached our first layover. It was great to see Pastor Carlos who’s part of our Missions family in El Porvenir [Northern Baja] now setting up a men’s rehab near San Bruno [Southern Baja]. It’s 7:30 PM and Carlos and his wife have dinner waiting. What a great first day and blessing to have an opportunity to spend time with members of our Missions family outside the normal confines of a rehab center. We spend the night in a travel trailer provided by Carlos and prepared for a 6:00 AM departure. Thank You Lord for your loving kindness today we have been most richly blessed.
• 4:30 PM on April 2, with a grand total of 1,105 miles logged we reach our destination. I was prepared to take a quick shower and get a little rest. A quick shower yes, a little rest No, our first event is at 7:00 this evening and Pastor Hector is Preaching. I’m thinking we’re in for a full schedule and I’m not sure my purpose on this trip. A review of Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your Heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight.”
• During the rest of our stay Pastor Hector would speak six more times, youth Pastor Louis once and the Praise team consisting of Zack, Louis and Zuriel twice. I was thankful to witness such commitment. The congregation was always fully engaged with Pastor Hector

congregation that touched me as the word of God spoken through Hector enthusiastically entertaining the congregation while getting his point across vary effectively. Later after he had completed his sermon series I complimented him on a job well done. He just said with the biggest smile “I love to preach”
• Even with a full schedule at the church we did manage to get out to do a little site seeing in town, went to the beach one day for two hours, and took a tour boat out of Cabo San Lucas Marina and snorkeling for those who wanted. Donated by the boat rental owner and Pastor of the Church Hector gave his sermons [Freedom in Christ]. All the people from the church were friendly and provided us with meals on six different occasions.
•
• 3:30 AM on April 9, we started back and on April 10, in the evening I was home in San Marcos. Oh I all most forgot we did have an unscheduled stop. Our van’s fan belt broke, the good news Henry is a mechanic and had a spare belt, the bad news, the cam roller on the tension arm had a bad bearing, we’re not close to any town and it’s too early for a parts store to be open. Long story short got a ride bought the part, 5 hours later on the road again. Praise God
• God doesn’t always show us the impact we have on others. Stand strong in the Lord and open your heart, allow the Holy Spirit to direct your path. Become a good example of Christ, share the Word, give glory to our Heavenly Father in all things, that is my purpose. My prayer is that if it’s not yours right now that it will soon be.
” To our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen” (Phil. 4:20)ESV
