President’s Report Hi to you all in mighty Subaland, I hope all is well in your world. Well the club now has over 70 members which is good to see, and with the end of the club year coming up it would be nice have all those stay in the club for next year. Now is the time when you should be thinking about if you would like to be no the committee for next year, and if so what you might like to do. The club now a sub committee to get the club Birthday Party under way, the club also will be buying some “NEW” shirts for this night (with 25 years on it). So if you would like one of these nice shirts, see David at the meeting and he will take your order. We also have a new Property Officer till the end of the year. Rick Dean was not able to continue because of work, so he has handed it over to Bryan Neilsen. Welcome aboard Bryan.

3X4X4x20 THREE CORNERS TRIP - 8/9 days - 26 June - 4 July, 2004 - 410Okm This trip celebrates the 20th anniversary of Subaru 4WD Club of Queensland's first long-range trip, which was a Three Corners trip. The unique feature of this schedule is that it includes overnighting at each corner. While the schedule below is for eight days, it may be more comfortable to use nine days by camping at Coongie Lakes and then travelling to Poeppel Corner as below but via either a side trip to Peera Peera Poolanna Lake (Rig Road) or travelling ) K1 Line/Rig Road Junction - Peera Peera Poolanna Lake - Approdinna Attora Knolls [AAK] Track intersection - 102 - WAA Corner - 7 - French Line intersection at Lake Tamblyn - 34 - Poeppel Corner - 40. Obviously, either of these options make for a greater km count for these. These options also make it desirable to include a night's bush camp before reaching Poeppel Corner. There are two long runs between fuel stops: Innamincka - 653 - Birdsville (includes roads, tracks and dunes) or with side trip - 750 - or with rig Road, AAK Track and French Line option - 750. Trip Report LANDCRUISER PARK 12.01.2003

Sunday morning we were all up for breakfast while Shane & Libby in the wounded brumby headed home followed by his dad. The rest of us decided to pack up camp and do a couple of minor tracks on the way back to the office. We followed Saltshed and Rocky Road, the only hard section being a steep decline with a side track for those who chose. Once again a couple of larger vehicles stopped to watch our progress, and were amazed at the descent and car control used (not something they have to think about much)! Rik's beast, fully laden, made tough work on a couple of the uphills but we all made it back to the office right on time. From here we headed back to the Jimna fire tower where the view from the top was amazing (so I'm told). After a smoko, we all departed, some straight to Kilcoy and a few of us went via Sunday Creek Road for a quick swim at Charlie Morelands. Editor’s Report Not much to report for this month. With the end of the club year coming up, if you want to have a say in how the club is run, get yourself nominated. If you aren’t happy with the way that the club is progressing now is the perfect time to make a change. Check out the new format of the magazine for this month, much easier for me to work with than pagemaker. There are still a few teething problems, but nothing that can’t be sorted over the next couple of months. This is also a bumper issue, with a couple of extra pages thrown in for no extra cost. Thanks to all members who have taken time to do up their trip reports after so long. Sorry that I can’t run them all into current magazines. That’s it for me. See you out there. Dwayne Boyton SC481

Proposed Motion re Visitors on Trips Proposed Motion by Ray Lyons regarding public liability insurance and non-members attending the 3corners trip. 'that visitors who wish to accompany the Subaru 4WD Club (QLD) on its forthcoming 'three corners trip' must become temporary members of the Club by completing the required application form and paying a combined joining and membership fee of fifteen dollars ($15-00). Ten dollars ($10-00) of this fee may be subsequently used as an offset to the normal joining and annual membership fee should that person pay the normal full annual membership fee within six months of the start date of that applicable trip or outing.' This motion would not create a need to effect other changes especially in the Constitution. It is a specific temporary event motion which members at a special general may vote on. The committee has been working to secure a good deal in regards to the public liability insurance for the last few months. We have decided to go with the combined council for our public liability insurance, but one of the problems that we have faced is that non members of the club wouldn’t be covered. On insurance we have secured a deal for a 10week period of cover for the period where our old insurance had expired until the new policy covers us.

Rally News WRC Rally New Zealand Rd 4 – This rally is a favourite amongst the drivers because of its smooth fast following roads. It was a close battle at the front of the field for the whole event with 4 different drivers and 3 makes of cars leading at different times. The eventual winner was Subaru’s Petter Solberg by 5.9 seconds, making it his and Subaru’s first victory of the year. His teammate Mikko Hirvonen also finished well in 7th place. Group N – The big news of the event was team Subaru Australia’s Dean Herridge class victory, making it his first class win and the first Australian to do it at an overseas event. The good results continued with his teammate Cody Crocker finishing in 3rd place in class. There was a close battle for the lead during the rally until Cody punctured a tyre in the second last stage. Positions – 1 Solberg Subaru, 2 Gronholm Peugeot, 3 Martin Ford , 4 Leob Citroen, 5 Rovanpera Peugeot, 6 Sainz Citroen, 7 Hirvonen Subaru, 8 Carlisson Peugeot, 9 Herridge Subaru Gp N, 10 Stohl Mitsubishi Gp N. Points Drivers – Martin 26, Loeb 25, Gronholm 24, Solberg 23, Durval 14. Manufactures – Ford 40, Citroen 30, Peugeot 21, Subaru 19, Mitsubishi 5. Subaru Rally of Canberra – Asian Pacific Championship – Rd 1 -- Team Subaru’s Dean Herridge continued his winning ways with another convincing win in a very dry, rough and dusty event. For most of the event Subarus held the first 3 places. Japanese driver Toshi Arai was running in 2nd place driving the leased Atkinsons brothers WRX, until Mitsubishi’s Juha Kangas made a late charge to claim 2nd place. Subaru’s Cody Crocker finished in 4th place, after a tangle with kangaroos. This rally was the first round of Subaru Australia’s RS challenge series. There were 15 starters the eventual winner was Queenslander John Goasdoue, who gained the class lead after the leading crew of Eli Evans, Simon’s brother suffered a timing penalty. Philcomm’s [Suba News advertisers and radio specialists] Matt Van Tuinen finished 4th in class. Ex club member Simone Martin who is co driving for Nathan Davis finished 9th in class. HEARD THE NEWS Past members David and Donalda Shaw are proud parents of daughter Nadia, born 29-4-04. New big rig – To replace his old faithful Toyota Dyna 4WD Arnold Shoemaker has recently bought a new Isuzu 4.8 litre 4 cylinder inter cooled turbo diesel 4WD truck. Once it is fully set up with a new tray to take his own designed and built slide on and off camper, winch and bigger wheels, Arnold plans to us the big rig for work and travelling. Updating – With a deal too good to resist Matthew Abbott recently replaced his well used MY 83 wagon, with Andrew Gantimuroff’s metallic blue well set up [it’s got everything you need] MY 99 Outback. The deal even included the extra set of 16-inch rims, which Andrew was advertising separately. More record sales – Subaru sales in April continue to set records with a total of 2,764 cars sold, which is 18.5% up on April 03 sales. Total sales for the year are 11,165 already an increase of 1,744 on the same time last year. Sold – Bryan Neilsen has sold his old beige bullet MY 82 wagon minus the twin carb engine and gearbox. Also in early May Mark Ottway helped Bryan fit a new heavy-duty clutch bought from mag advertisers All Brake and Clutch to his RX Turbo. New contract – Keith and Danna Peters have signed a new contract for their mail run west of Maryborough. Their current mail run vehicle a MY 94 Liberty wagon with about 500,000 kms virtually trouble free on the clock will be finally retired. For the start of the new contract in July, Keith has bought a white auto MY 99 Forester GT. New Careers – Our Club President Rik Close has recently gained his heavy ridged truck and forklift licences along with a new job. Also Bryan Neilsen has changed jobs he is now working for a Solar hot water system distributor, he is also being trained for a fork lift licence. Comfortable camping – First Big John McKenna bought the Tray On camper for some home away home camping. Now his latest edition is a mobile primus gas powered water heater and pump for hot showers. In car sets – With the transition of UHF CB radios slowly replacing the AM sets Dwayne Boyton and David Martin have recently fitted in car UHF sets to their Brumbys. Wanted – NSW Ballina based country member Rob Noble who drives a Brumby and wife Vicky drives a Liberty wagon is on the lookout for his Father in law an early MY series roadworthy Brumby converted to a automatic and fitted with power steering for around the $3000 mark. A Bit of Humour

A first grade teacher was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, "Johnny what is your problem?" Johnny answered, "I'm too smart for the first grade. My sister is in the third grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the third grade too!" The teacher had had enough. She took Johnny to the principal's office. While Johnny waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told the teacher he would give the boy a test and if he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the first grade and behave. The teacher agreed. Johnny was brought in and the conditions are explained to him and he agrees to take the test. Principal: "What is 3 x 3?" Johnny: "9". Principal: "What is 6 x 6?" Johnny: "36". And so it went with every question the principal thought a third grader should know. The principal looks at the teacher and tells her, "I think Johnny can go to the third grade." The teacher says to the principal, "Let me ask him some questions?" The principal and Johnny both agree. The teacher asks, "What does a cow have four of that I have only two of?" Johnny, after a moment, "Legs." Teacher: "What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?" The principal's eyes open really wide and before he could stop the answer, Johnny replied, "Pockets." Teacher: "What does a dog do that a man steps into?" Johnny: "Pants" Teacher: "What word starts with an 'F' and ends in 'K' that means a lot of excitement?" Johnny: "Firetruck" The principal breathed a sigh of relief and told the teacher, "Put Johnny in the fifth grade, I missed the last four questions myself."
