MAWLYNREI Village belongs to the Khyrim Syiemship. It is located 25 KM from the capital Shillong. The accessibiblity to the village is via a local road. This is one of the villages that is getting influenced by the new Shillong. Area- less that 20 sq.km. Population – less than 5000 Ethnicity – Khasis Settlement growth- lenear. The village has grown along two sides of the road. Mawlynrei village is situated on a ridge and the ground is abundant in Cherra stone. Hydrology- the whole village is fed from a natural water spring. The spring water is channelized to different parts through public taps. The main vegetation comprises of Khasi pines. There is a sparse forest type of growth. Other than that almost every house has a vegetable garden. Livelihood- Majority of the population are labourers living on daily wages. Religious beliefs- 95 % of the population are Chistians. The rest belong to Seng Khasis. There are 3 churches in the village and one cemetery. The main festivals celebrated are Christmas, New Year and Easter. The main food are meat, fish and rice.
