Terry and Wilma (Haug) Pfann-enstiel will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 25, 2010, and their family is requesting a card shower.

The couple were married 40 years ago on July 25, 1970, at St. Aloysius Church at Ranson.

Their children are Brian and Su-

san Pfannenstiel of Parker, Colo. and Tara and Devlin Mull of Goodland. They have four grandchildren.

Goodland grads plan to marry in Hays

Jennifer Mentzer and Cody Schields, both of Goodland plan to marry on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at St. Michaels Episcopal Church at Hays with the Rev. Linda English officiating.

The bride to be’s parents are Scott and Deborah Mentzer of Goodland and grandparents are the late John and Mary Mentzer and the late Clar-ence and Marilyn Speed.

The future groom’s parents are Dale and Jacque Schields of Good-land and grandparents are the late Arnold and Velma Schields and Mil-

lie and the late Donald Hawkins. She graduated in 2004 from

Goodland High School and in 2007 from Fort Hays State University in finance. She works for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation at Hays.

He graduated in 2002 from Good-land High School and in 2008 from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor of general studies and hu-man studies. He works for the City of Hays.

The couple plan to live in Hays.

The bride to be’s parents are Thomas and Marianne Glavinich of Shawnee and her grandparents are the late Joseph and Marie Glavin-ich and Frances and the late John Sevick.

The future groom’s parents are Scott and Deborah Mentzer of Goodland and his grandparents are the late John and Mary Mentzer

and the late Clarence and Marilyn Speed.

She graduated in 2001 from Bishop Miege High School at Shaw-nee Mission and in 2007 from the University of Kansas at Lawrence with a Masters of accounting. She works for Waddell and Reed of Shawnee Mission.

He graduated in 2001 from Good-land High School and in 2008 from the University of Kansas with a Jurist Doctorate. He works for the Chapin Law Firm at Shawnee.

There’s a common misconception that own-ing your own business is easy and that there’s lots of money available to help you.

Owning your own business is tough. When you first get started, plan on long hours for little to no money.

Just like anything else, it takes time to grow a business. And don’t expect the bank to give you all the money you need. Banks are in busi-ness to make money not start busi-nesses. If you’re not willing to risk anything, why would they?

Don’t expect to get a grant. Most of those commercials and ads for free money are scams. Save your time and money.

If you’re thinking about starting a business, I don’t want to discourage

you, but I do want to prepare you for the road ahead.

You’re not going for a walk in the park; you’re heading into the jungle. Be prepared!

AccidentsThe following accidents were

investigated by the Goodland Police Department.

June 28 – 2:06 p.m., 2160 Com-merce Rd., a 1995 Ford driven by Beverly S. Wolak was backing from a parking stall and backed into a 2007 Ford owned by Carol K. Sanders.

June 30 – 11:16 a.m., I-70 and K-27, a 2006 Dodge driven by Arika

Nicole Pulsipher and a 1998 Buick driven by Cliford Fox were both going south on K-27 and signaling to turn into the on ramp on I-70 go-ing east. The Dodge attempted to go around the Buick and hit the Buick entering the turning lane.

July 2 – 9:18 p.m., 1600 Main Ave., a 2005 Dodge driven by Joshua Dorn was backing when it hit a 2004 Pontiac driven by Kenneth Dean Studer.
