Dear Friends חברים יקרים,

We are delighted to invite you to the seventeenth annual Matters of Taste, the signature fundraising event of JCDS, Boston’s Jewish Community Day School, on Sunday evening, March 20, 2016. The event begins with an enticing reception and is followed by an exciting evening full of thought-provoking and engaging conversations with local and national luminaries at small intimate dinners around the Greater Boston community.

As members of the JCDS community and parents of two current students, we are honored to provide leadership for Matters of Taste. We deeply value the school’s on-going commitment to pluralism of engagement, Hebrew and English throughout the day, a joyful Jewish community, academic excellence, and a whole child approach to learning. JCDS plays a vital role in educating and developing today’s Jewish children for tomorrow’s future. This event ensures that we can continue to do so.

Matters of Taste is a special celebration for members of the JCDS community and our many friends in Greater Boston and beyond. By participating in Matters of Taste, you help maximize support to families attending our school, support our outstanding academic program and sustain an intentionally pluralistic community.

Please be sure to share news about this wonderful event with others to help ensure its success. We hope you will join us on March 20th for a very special evening.

A nice Jewish boy from New York, Alan always knew he wanted to be an architect, but never had a chance to meet one until he was a senior in college. After graduating from Yeshiva University with degrees in English literature and medieval Jewish history, he went on to earn a Master’s degree in architecture. With thirty years of experience working in offices both large and small, he has had the opportunity to work on the widest range of projects: from

Writer and radio personality Bill Littlefield’s work lies at the intersection of sports writing and humor, with a dash of quirkiness for good measure. Littlefield joined NPR over thirty years ago and his signature show, “Only a Game” debuted in 1993. Although he is perhaps best known for his radio show, he is a prolific author and editor on the subject of sports and has served as writer-in-residence and English professor at Curry College for 39 years. His

thoughtful writing contextualizes on-field events in the wider world, highlighting the humanity of athletes and fans alike. Though his daughters have grown too old for him to continue coaching them, Littlefield occasionally still has nightmares about youth league basketball games in which he was allegedly an official.

Nicole is an attorney and practiced in her home state of California, as well as in Boston, until the birth of their three children, all of whom are students at JCDS. Linda K. Wertheimer is the author of Faith Ed: Teaching about Religion in an Age of Intolerance, which examines questions around teaching world religions to schoolchildren. The idea for this book grew out of a The Boston Globe Magazine cover story about the controversy surrounding a field trip to a mosque undertaken by Wellesley middle school students. The book discusses many issues, including whether and at what age it is appropriate for schools to teach

Now, your most private data — including your credit card and health records — could be vulnerable to attacks from organized crime or hostile intelligence agencies. Most of us can identify a Dutch Master or two: Rembrandt, Vermeer, maybe Frans Hals. But who are the subjects of their paintings? How can we distinguish noblemen from the newly rich, or a maid from a mistress? How does a major exhibition, with artwork on loan from all over the world, come together?
