Maths:
Number and Place Value: counting on in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s,
Fractions: Understanding what a fraction is. Finding a
fraction of a shape, set of objects or quantity. Looking at
writing simple fractions – 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 2/4, 3/4.
Multiplication: Recall facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables,
link multiplication to addition (repeated addition), know that
multiplication of 2 numbers can be done in any order, use the
x symbol.
Division: Linking division facts to multiplication facts, using
grouping and sharing to dividing, link division to fractions,
know that division of 2 numbers can’t be done in any order.
Time and Money: telling the time to hour, half hour, quarter
hour, five minute intervals, recognise and use different coins
to make different amounts, solving problems involving
money.
English:
Non-chronological reports: Fire safety leaflet using
information from our fire station visit.
Poetry: Shape poems based around fire – increasing
vocabulary and ‘playing’ with words looking at the effect on
the reader. Learning and reciting London’s Burning looking
at performing it also changing lines linked to history for
effect.
Imaginative Writing: Using picture and film stimulus of the
GFOL to build up vocabulary linked to the time and the topic
to lead into writing eyewitness accounts, newspaper articles
and diary entries.
Handwriting: Penpals – looking at developing presentation
skills and joins.
Science:
Working Scientifically: Investigating how different road
materials (now and in 1666) would affect a cart travelling
over them.
Art and Design:
Exploring how different materials can be used to produce fire
pictures – marbling, collage, paper sculpture
Looking at the architecture of London buildings.
Maths across the Curriculum: Maths Through Stories: Tower to the Sun
Secret Codes – link to Algebra and Samuel Pepys Diary.
Linking maths into building their Stuart Houses.

History:
Key Events: Looking at the Great Fire of London 1666 –
what happened, how it happened, who was involved,
comparisons between then and now (including fire brigade),
what changed?
Key Individuals: Samuel Pepys, King Charles 2nd
,
Christopher Wren and his links to Weymouth/Portland.
RE:
Christianity: Why did God give Jesus to the world? Is God
important to everyone?
Looking at why we celebrate Christmas.
Computing:
PowerPoint: Learning to use the basic features of
PowerPoint to make a simple paired presentation about our
fire station visit.
2Paint: Using the paint programme to make a fire silhouette
picture
Programming: navigate a Bee-Bot through a London street –
design routes to avoid fire hazards for partner
Mathletics: Building up their mental fluency skills
Music:
Singing: Learning a variety of songs
Instruments: Using a variety of instruments to play along to
well known songs linked to the topic of fire.
Performance: Looking at ways of performing London’s
Burning with percussion and vocal skills. Christmas songs.
Design and Technology:
Design: Research houses from pre-fire 1666 and then
generate their own house design to include materials needed.
Make: Recognising which tools/materials they need to use in
order to make their house and use these appropriately.
Evaluate: Evaluate their product against design criteria.
Technical Knowledge: build structures, exploring how they
can be made more stable (must stand on playground).
PE:
REAL PE: Gymnastics: Travelling and Balancing – learning
to control their movement in different ways of travelling at
different levels. Learning different ways to balance and use
the space around them. Balancing individually and with a
partner.
Games: Invasion games and their rules/skills.

November – Tour of the Fire
Station and Fire Appliances
Great Fire of Wyke (with Parents) – ‘re-enactment’ of the
GFOL – children will have made GFOL houses, these will be
set up on the playground in streets and the fire brigade will
come and set fire to them!
