Here’s an equation: y=2x-5
The name of this equation is slope intercept form. The formula for this
equation is y=mx+b. your b is your y-intercept. You m is your slope. Your y
is just the y-axis on a graph.
When you are dealing with equations, you are finding your slope + y-intercept. So you can plot on your graph. Your graph will come up after you find your slope and y-intercept.
Its very important that you use certain items to help you find and get your equation.
When finding your equation you want to make a table.
A table will help you find you table.
You want to use tables.
Find your slope + y-intercept.
Example: y=mx+b.
What is your slope and y-intercept
Well to find the answer..you would use your..table
x 8 6
b 2 9
X 8 6
B 2 9
Y=mx+b
M=6+-9 = -3
8-2 4
Your slope is: -3
4
That’s your slope!!
When you use linear inequality, you find the following: solid/dash or shade below/above
If your linear inequality is solid it will look like this > if it’s a dash it will look like this >
You will determine whether or not its shaded below if your y is less, if shaded above your y is greater
You will have three steps to follow!!
1. Determine whether your linear inequality is a dash or solid
2. Then, determine whether or not you will shade below or above
3. Last step, is check your answer!!(graph)
1. Y < + 6
2. Y > - 8
What are your answers to these two problems of linear inequalities
Number one is a solid because its equal to, it’s a shaded below because its less than
Number two is a dash because its equal, it’s shaded above because your y is greater.

Y-y1=m(x – x1)
You will use that with the slope form.
Its together
Wow how neat!!
Here’s an example of point slope
6 and (6,4)
The step are very easy
All you do is place the m with the slope
Then replace y1 with the y-intercept
And you will place the x1 with the x-intercept
Slope 6, and (6,4)
Y - y1=m(x - x1)
Y - y1=6 (x – x1)
Y – 4 =6 (x – 6)
6 * 6 = 36= 36
1 1 1
Y – 4 =6 x – 6
+4 + 4
y =6x -2
The slope formula is y=mx+b
You determine whether or not its an dash or solid
You have to determine whether or not it is shaded above or below
The formula for the point-slope form is y-y1=m(x-x1)
