HARTLEY WINTNEY FC HISTORY

Hartley Wintney Football Club History Hartley Wintney Football Club was founded in the North Hampshire village of Hartley Wintney in 1897 and played in an area adjacent to the village's golf and cricket clubs, the facilities not quite being up to today's standard, with only a horse trough or the pond to remove the heavy mud from a sub-standard pitch. The Club's nickname of 'The Row' comes from 'Hartley Row', a former hamlet within Hartley Wintney. In 1953, the club moved to its present ground in Green Lane, known as 'The Memorial Ground'. A pavilion was erected and the team played in the Basingstoke League and, later, in the Aldershot League. In 1973, an influx of players under new manager Glynn Howell put the club firmly on the local football map. In his six year reign, the team won the Aldershot Senior League three times in succession, and the Aldershot Senior Cup. After several seasons in the Aldershot Senior League, Hartley were admitted to the Combined Counties League (previously Surrey Senior League). After the first couple of seasons and two changes of management, the club appointed Ian Bedford, and once again an influx of senior players brought Hartley success. Within his three years in man-agement, they gained trophies including the League Title (1982-1983) and Runners Up (1981-1982), Aldershot Senior Cup Winners (1980-1981), and George Allen Cup Win-ners (1981-1982). They were also Runners Up in the League Cup (1982-1983) and Al-dershot Senior Cup (1981-1982). The club gained promotion from Division One of the Combined Counties League in 2007-08 under manager Mike Scott, but 08-09 began poorly and, despite a change of management, the season ended in relegation by a narrow margin. Under the manage-ment team of Pete Gray and John Condon, the first team rallied in 09-10, finishing 5th in CCL Div. 1, and 7th in season 10-11 under manager Louis King after Pete Gray had stepped down for family reasons. The 2011-12 season under manager Neville Roach, Assistant Mick Wollen and Coach Scott Tarr was a notable one for the club as they again achieved promotion to the Com-bined Counties League Premier Division, as well as having a fine FA Cup run that took them to the Third Qualifying Round. However, end-of-season celebrations were damp-ened when the coaching staff left to join Thatcham Town. The entire squad bar two players departed, so new manager Dave Tuttle was faced with the task of rebuilding a squad competitive enough for the CCL Premier. A string of poor results led to a second change in management in less than 4 months, with 24 year-old ex-Hartley player, Ben Dillon, given his first managerial position already deep into the 2012-13 season. Once again there was an almost total outflow of players from Tuttle's squad, and Ben,

with assistants Jason Minton and Joe Lawler, set about rebuilding the squad, but by

this time with Hartley set well adrift at the bottom of the table. The introduction of a

talented group of players restored the spirit around the club, and in what became

known as the club's 'Great Escape' season, Hartley Wintney's place in the CCL Premier

was secured against all the odds after a truly remarkable second half of the season.

HARTLEY WINTNEY FC HISTORY

Ben further strengthened the squad for 2013-14, with Steve Saunders and player/coach Dan Brownlie brought in to the coaching setup alongside Jason and Joe. The season started well and there were notable wins in the FA Cup on a run that took the club to the 4th Qualifying Round for the first time in its history. The cup run took its toll on league form but the club finished a creditable 7th in the Premier Division.

After a comfortable 9th place finish in 2014-15, Ben Dillon stepped down and Dan Brownlie and Anthony Millerick were appointed Joint First Team Managers, alongside coaches Joe Lawler and Luke Tuffs. With strong additions to the playing squad, it was an eventful 2015-16 season. After a memorable 1-0 win away at Southern League Mer-thyr Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, Hartley took Conference South Eastbourne Borough to the wire, losing out to an injury time winner. In the FA Vase, a longstanding club record was broken by reaching the 5th Round Proper played in front of a sell-out 1,300 at Green Lane against the eventual finalists, Hereford FC. And de-spite the cup commitments, the club topped the CCL Premier Division for most of the season and claimed the 2015-16 league title. Promotion, however, was denied due to ground grading issues. Faced with huge challenges on and off the pitch - to achieve back-to-back title wins and put in place the necessary ground improvements to take advantage of any second op-portunity for promotion - the 2016-17 season was perhaps the club's best yet, topping the Combined Counties League Premier Division for the entire season, reaching the semi-finals of the Hampshire senior county cup and the final of the Aldershot Senior Cup, and securing the required ground grading to allow the club to take its place in The Evo-Stik (Southern) League South; the first time in its history that the club has made it to Step 4 of the English football pyramid. To top off a wonderful 2016-17 season, our young Youth team won the Hampshire FA Youth Midweek Floodlit Cup, winning on penalties against a strong Aldershot Town U18. Hartley Wintney FC has come a long way, from 'village side' in every sense of the term, to today's 7 days a week modern football club. The football club has established a clear line of progression for young players with the establishment of an U18 Youth setup, currently playing in the Allied Counties Youth League, a Reserve team playing in the Suburban League, and an A Team playing in the Aldershot & District Football League. To all their players, officials and supporters we extend a warm welcome and hope you en-joy your short stay with us here at Hartley Wintney. Our visitors are currently 18th in the league with 29 points from 33 games. Aylesbury have recently appointed Kevin Poole as their new manager. He has worked previ-ously for Oxford and Reading community coaching but now works in the Building de-sign & renovation trade. The new manager said “Aylesbury FC will be a step up but with a huge knowledge of capable local players, I’m confident we can steady the ship and improve results ready for next season.” Kev is assisted by Dave Morris, who had a long playing career playing for Chesham United, Maidenhead United , Flackwell Heath Holmer Green and Penn & Tylers. Aylesbury FC’s current form: 10 Feb H ASHFORD TOWN drew 2-2 17 Feb A Uxbridge lost 2-1 24 Feb H MONEYFIELDS lost 2-0 06 Mar H ARLESEY lost 5-1

13 Mar A Marlow lost 1-0 24 Mar H HANWELL lost 3-0 The previous meeting between the sides this season ended in a 2-0 victory for our visitors. We will need to avenge that defeat tonight if we are to keep our play off ambi-tions alive. On Saturday we entertained table topping AFC Rushden and Diamonds. We recovered from a very early setback to inflict the sec-ond defeat in a week upon the Diamonds. A good all round team performance secured the pointes where all the players deserve immense credit for putting on a superb per-formance on a very heavy pitch. Notwith-standing the team effort special mention goes to MoM Jack Ball and skipper Dean Stow who chipped in with two goals. The Reserves made the short trip to Ascot United and secured a point following a nil all draw. The A Team also played away at Cove De-velopment running out 2-1 winners with goals from Tom Davis and Craig Armstrong. Please get behind the team today as we

look to keep up our push for the play offs.

ONE SIDE OF THE DUG OUT

Good evening everybody. Welcome back to Our House - especially to those who came to support us on Saturday to witness a truly spectacular performance from the boys. Yes, agreed - it didn't start well. I think there were a few faces in the crowd that indicated the thought that we were going to be in for a tough after-noon. Credit to the boys though for regrouping so quick-ly and getting on the front foot. For the 42 minutes of the remainder of the half we played some scintillating football. Jack Ball was mag-nificent at the back. Strong, clinical and powerful with a real willingness to win. That desire was present throughout but it's physical embodiment was through Jack. It was his finest perfor-mance in a Hartley shirt and whilst I have-n't had this conversation with him, I can't imagine there's been many better perfor-mances in his career. Whilst a little more unassuming but equally as effective - young Jack French had a ter-rific game in the middle of the park. Taking balls in difficult areas, bringing others into the game and dictating the rise and fall of the tempo at will.

We could arguably be a little frustrated that we didn't score a goal from open play, es-pecially as we created so many wonderful chances. Some of which were created by some real class - exciting fast paced foot-ball with movement to match. That said, the quality of the free kick that Stowie hit was superb. A technique that he

has now seemingly trademarked. It was another memorable day at the office, but the ambition now is to create consistency in per-formance from now until the end of the season. It's all very well per-forming like that against top of the league against a big name like Rushden,

but we now have to do it week in week out. A big thank you to for your support, same again tonight please! Enjoy the game db

MILLERS MUSINGS

Saturday was another superb day for both the lads and the Club in general, it will cer-tainly be one that I will remember for a good while. Personally it was one of my favour-ite performances of late because we displayed all our qualities, especially given the ear-ly set-back. In playing that manner of football against the leagues top team, having the patience and discipline when chasing the game showed what we are truly about. Ulti-mately I felt the scoreline flattered Rushden a little and we absolutely deserved to take all the points. To a man the chaps were brilliant and deserve all the plaudits howev-er......it will all be for nothing if we don't put the pedal to the metal today and secure another 3 points. Aylesbury will be no push over and the times I seen them, they looked better than their league standing suggests. Despite having a successful season thus far we have to re-member where we have come from. This time last year we were a step 5 team looking up at the potential fixtures we would be having should we gain promotion and they all looked a challenge. That feeling still remains, there will be no easy fixtures between now and the end of the season and we must be at it consistently. If we have that same hunger and desire in the remaining fixtures this could very well end up a season to truly remember. Enjoy the game

MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS WHAT THE PAPERS SAID: AFC RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS

Hartley Wintney v AFC Rushden & Dia-monds, Saturday 24th March 2018, Evo-Stik League South, East Division Report by David Graham Hartley Wintney remain in the play-off slots after a sparkling performance over league leaders AFC Rushden and Diamonds. How-ever it was the Diamonds who made the perfect start with a goal on just 3 minutes. A throw on the right caught the Row defence out and Joel Gyasi fed through to unmarked Ben Farrell, who smashed the ball home from just inside the penalty box (0-1). Hartley responded well and a minute later Nic Ciardini was able to get in a shot which was saved by Diamonds keeper, Ben Heath. The home side remained in the ascendancy and Paul Hodges set up Jack French, who saw his effort saved by Heath. On 18 minutes the Diamonds struggled to clear a set piece and Heath, under pressure from Jake Baxter and Jack Ball, was unable to clear and relieved to see a defender kick the ball off the line. Three minutes later a slip in the Diamonds defence allowed Nic Ciardini through; Heath did well to block, and Paul Hodges saw his follow up shot also blocked. Hartley had a good chance on 28 minutes when a cross from Josh Webb found Jack Ball unmarked. However, the central de-fender was unable to keep his header down and the ball went over the bar. In a rare Rushden attack, a Luke Fairlamb

cross was headed wide by Ryan Robbins. The

Row resumed on the attack and the long

overdue equaliser arrived on 32 minutes.

Steven Duff was pushed, some 25 yards

from goal. Dean Stow stepped up and his

beautifully struck free kick found the the

corner of the net, giving Heath no chance.

wide.

The early part of the second period saw little

action until on the 53rd minute a good move

down the left from the Row gave Steven

Duff a chance. The winger's shot from a diffi-

cult angle crashed off the outside of the

post. A minute later Duff was again involved

in teeing up Josh Webb, who saw his effort

saved by a well-positioned Heath.

However Hartley’s pressure was finally re-

warded on 58 minutes. A corner on the right

from Duff saw Liam Eagle soar highest and

his goal bound header was blocked with a

defender's hand. Dean Stow took the penal-

ty and made no mistake with a powerful

shot low into the corner. (2-1) The Dia-

monds responded well and on 61 minutes

Spencer Weir–Daly set up Tom Lorraine,

who fired wide. Four minutes later, a cross

from Fairlamb found Lorraine, but he again

shot past the post when well placed.

A breakaway on 69 minutes gave the Row a

chance to perhaps seal the win; a Jake Bax-

ter pass found Ciardini but the striker

dragged his shot wide. A minute later

Ciardini connected well and was able to de-

liver a powerful shot which Heath managed

to divert round the post at full stretch. Dia-

monds made a late surge to save the game

and a delivery from Liam Dolman found Lor-

raine at the back post. However the striker

was unable to direct his header and the ball

went wide.

MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS WHAT THE PAPERS SAID: AFC RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS

The Row had a short spell of pressure and a Duff corner saw an Eagle header blocked. Then in the 90th minute, Luke Fairlamb went down in the penalty box and there were claims for a penalty. Ref-eree Stephen Bates noticed it was a dive and Fairlamb was booked. The Row held on for a well merited win. For Hartley, many excellent performances within a top class team performance. No-tably Dean Stow for the two goals and

Jack French in midfield. However, Jack Ball hardly put a foot wrong in defence all afternoon and was awarded with Man of the Match from today's Match sponsors, BEMS Ltd. [D Graham] FULL TIME: HARTLEY WINTNEY 2 AFC RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS 1 ATTENDANCE: 269 Man of the match: Jack Ball (Hartley Wintney)

THE FANS REACTION

We've put in a lot of very good perfor-mances this season but, along with the Bromley game and a couple of others, this was up there with the best of them. When we conceded what was a soft early goal, I turned to Noakesy stood just along from me and remarked it could be a long after-noon for us. It was a dreadful start, but we didn't dwell on it for a moment and from that point on we were relentless and it was a terrific team performance. From so many very good individual perfor-mances, Jack Ball was immense - I soon lost count of the number of times he got a head or a foot in to break up an attack, and it must surely rate as one of his most memorable performances in any game at any club. Back out on the wing, Duffs turned the clock back and was a huge in-fluence, and Frenchy again was magnifi-cent alongside Webby in the middle. Nic again showed what a valuable asset he is to us with superb hold-up play and distri-bution against a very robust Diamonds back line, and he must have been out on his feet by the time he was substituted

late on. But I could pick out every single player and heap praise on them. Louie took a little time to settle but with encour-agement he again showed how well he can rise to the challenge. And I've not even yet mentioned Stowie's free kick; another worldy, followed up by a very clinical penalty which found the corner even though the keeper guessed right. The table toppers came to us determined to put their last result behind them and they put in a good performance, but we played some of the best passing football from us this season and - apart from the first few minutes - defended very well, and when we do that, we are good enough to beat anyone at our level. Well done boys, superb. Now we have to get ourselves, as Millers said, quickly re-focused for Tuesday night, as every game is a biggun.

MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS AYLESBURY HISTORY

The club has enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Va-le, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. In 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facili-ties. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Ne-gretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987. After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake en-joyed many further successes including Divi-sion One runners up in 1991, Premier Divi-sion and League Cup runners up the follow-ing season and Wycombe Senior Cup suc-cess in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of

neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Mar-tone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury 1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to sen-iors, some 200 players being registered, this also including Stocklake Ladies. In 2000 four youth teams won league and cup honours, whilst the senior team went on to win the Aylesbury District Cup, the Field Shield and ADL Premier Division runners up. At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Hay-wood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone vot-ed in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan South Midlands League and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achieve-ments during the 2001/2002 season includ-ed league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fenc-ing, which Danny and his hard working com-mittee fought hard to establish. Another award was gained for the match day pro-gramme in recognition of how much the club was developing. Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the follow-ing year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses.

MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS AYLESBURY HISTORY

Haywood United proved themselves capa-ble of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006. Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town. After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side a vote for a name change. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Mar-tone. Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club. Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the compe-tition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus. Meanwhile,

away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Win-ners' Winning both the Spartan South Mid-land League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promo-tion to the Southern League Division 1 Cen-tral. Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most suc-cessful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi-final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league. The 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bate-man and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , support-ed by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gor-don & Risbridger in December 2016, ap-pointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season Aylesbury Football Club prides itself on clear ambitions: to progress to higher league football and to achieve higher league status with squads from local talent. The club hopes to continue to work with other local community groups and enhance the clubs facilities to benefit the people within Aylesbury

South, East Round-Up

AFC Rushden & Diamonds` lead at the top of the Evo-Stik League South East table was cut to just two points on Saturday after they lost at Hartley Wintney and Hayes & Yeading United beat Uxbridge. Despite tak-ing an early 2nd minute lead in Hampshire through Ben Farrell, Diamonds were un-done by a brace from Dean Stow after 32 and 60 minutes. Hayes won the derby against Uxbridge in front of 314 with a brace from Manny Duku after 20 minutes – from the penalty spot – and 79 minutes, with Duncan Culley on 74 minutes and Laste Dombaxe 5 minutes from time adding the others. Beaconsfield Town are level on points with Hayes in third and, like Diamonds, have played three fewer games. They edged out Northwood by the odd goal in five at Chest-nut Avenue, leading after just 2 minutes through Alex Cathline only for Jermaine Osei to level 10 minutes later. Osei then gave Woods the lead on 36 minutes, but Reece Yorke after 51 minutes and seconds later, Tony Mendy, won it for Town. AFC Dunstable are two points further back in fourth after demolishing bottom side Arlesey Town 7-0, meaning the Bedford-shire side have shipped 13 goals in their last two matches and 95 in total. It was 5-0 at half-time with goals from BJ Christie and Jermaine Hall with two apiece and a Keanu Williams own goal. Hall completed his hat-trick on the hour-mark and Terry Griffiths added a seventh on 65 minutes. The other play-off spot is currently held by Chalfont St Peter, who could only manage a

1-1 draw at Marlow, whose Jay Welch can-celled out Jake Cass` 47th minute opener in the 5th minute of stoppage time at the end of the game! Cambridge City, Bedford Town and outsid-ers Kempston Rovers could still have a say in the top six race. City are just a point be-hind the Saints after a 1-0 win at St Ives against Aylesbury United, courtesy of a James Hall goal after 27 minutes. Bedford beat early season contenders Moneyfields 3-1 at the New Eyrie, but the Eagles left it late. It was 1-1 after Jimmy Hartley`s 6th minute opener for Bedford was levelled on the half-hour mark by Sam Pearce. Veteran Paul Benson pounced to put the Eagles in front a minute from time and Bradley Woods-Garness added a third 8 minutes into time added on. Kempston probably needed to beat third-bottom Fleet Town at Hillgrounds to keep in the race but had to make do with a point after trailing to an early 2nd minute Brad Wilson goal until Jake Newman equalised on the hour-mark. Arlesey are still just about alive after second-bottom Barton Rovers lost to a goal a mi-nute before half-time from Tom Howard for hosts Ashford Town (Middx). Elsewhere, Hanwell Town won the base-

ment battle at Aylesbury FC with a Calum

Duffy brace and a spot-kick from Joe Chan-

diram, while Michael Kalu had a day to re-

member as he scored all three for Egham

Town as they won 3-1 at Thame United,

whose Lynton Goss and Dan West replied.

South, West Round-Up

Taunton Town took a step closer to claiming the Evo-Stik League South West title after a 5-2 win over Larkhall Athletic at the Viridor Stadium which stretched their run to an amazing twenty-five games without defeat. Craig Veal and Dan Sullivan both scored twice to help the Peacocks to victory in an entertaining game played in a good spirit with the visitors fully playing their part in front of a crowd of 555. Sullivan`s brace came in the 2nd and 63rd minutes, while Veal`s two came in the 79th and 88th minutes, with Les Afful netting the other after 74 minutes. John Elliott had the Larks level after 38 minutes and Mike Baker scored their other goal 12 minutes from time. Taunton`s lead at the top is now thir-teen points after second-placed Salisbury FC were held to a 2-2 draw at Bideford AFC, who are only three points off a play-off spot themselves. They trailed to a 35th minute Lewis Benson goal before Ben Seymour lev-elled from the penalty spot a minute before half-time. Benson`s second 15 minutes from time looked to have won it for Steve Claridge`s side, until Ryan Turner popped up with Biddy`s equaliser 3 minutes into stop-page time. Who takes the rest of the play-off places looks likely to go to the wire with third-placed Wimborne Town down to elev-enth-placed Winchester Town all still in with a decent shout. Wimborne were 5-2 home winners over second-bottom Barnstaple Town, with Toby Holmes netting a hat-trick in the 25th, 33rd and 64th minutes. Luke Burbidge and Ben Walker made it a nap hand in the second half, with Ollie Booth and George Nancekivell replying for Barum, who have a five-point advantage over bottom-markers Bishops Cleeve, who beat mid-table Kidlington, courtesy of a 49th mi-nute Ben Hands effort at home. Back in the

top six race, Swindon Supermarine and Eve-sham United both won, but AFC Totton are now down in sixth place after losing 3-0 at the Corinium Stadium to a now tenth-placed Cirencester Town, for whom Ben White-head, Tom Ouldridge and Michael Pook were all on the mark in the second half. Su-permarine won 2-0 at Paulton Rovers, thanks to veteran defender Matt Coupe after 9 minutes and Aaron Woodley after 75 minutes, while Evesham saw off Winchester 1-0 at the Jubilee Stadium, courtesy of an Adam Mann effort 9 minutes into the sec-ond half. Winchester are still only four points behind the top six, with Bristol Manor Farm, Didcot Town, Bideford and Cirences-ter in between them and the Stags in sixth. Manor Farm will be disappointed to have dropped two home points in a 1-1 draw with Yate Town – both goals coming within a minute of each other midway through the second half – Lloyd Mills giving the hosts a brief lead and Matthew Tanner cancelling that out. Didcot were emphatic 6-3 winners at third-bottom Slimbridge, who have now conceded 96 goals – 18 more than bottom side Bishops Cleeve.Diddy raced into a 4-0 lead by half-time through George Reid with two, Morgan Williams and Adam Learoyd. Henry Birkett and Joe Wilton reduced that by two early in the second half, but Felipe Barcelos and Callum McNish added two more for the Railwaymen before Marley Thomas scored the Swans` third 10 minutes from time. Elsewhere, Mangotsfield United edged out

Shortwood United by the odd goal in five at

Cossham Street with Mike Bryant bagging a

brace, Will Hawes and Alex Kibble levelling

and then Jordan Williams winning it from

the spot for the Mangoes after 64 minutes.

ONCE the dust settles and we assess the National Game Awards, our thoughts often drift back to the catego-ry which we believe means the most to the person in possession of a glass de-canter. Every year we welcome managers, players, directors and personnel from all across the country. Some have put in the miles to make it to west London, setting off in the early hours. Some don’t even know why we’ve asked them along. That’s often the case with one very special award we take pride in pre-senting every year. ‘We couldn’t do it without you’ is said a lot at the end of every season, but with the William Hill Fan of the Year that is quite literally the case – it just can’t work without your help. It’s quite rare that the Fan of the Year isn’t one of the most memorable. Why? Because the person walking out with an NGA in a box under their arm always has passion for football flowing through their body. But, while covering as many grounds as our team possibly can every year, we can’t be in a thousand places all at once. That’s why we are welcoming your input more than ever before – it’s our duty to ensure the right person leaves Stamford Bridge with their name

engraved on the award on Wednesday, May 16. This is where you come in. Do you know a super fan who travels the length and breadth of the country to back their team, come rain or come shine? What about a supporter who has had to endure turmoil off the pitch at their club – there’s been several ex-amples of that this season too! We want to hear if your club has a sup-porter who has reached a significant milestone after years of dedication. Put that person forward and our team will sit down and study the candidates to make certain we’ve got the right Fan of the Year! It’s fair to say we got our man nearly ten months ago in Stalybridge Celtic fan Andrew Betts. Despite being just 17 at the time, Betts had been playing a big part at Celtic for five years, attending almost all of their fixtures even though the club haven’t had a lot to shout about. That’s not all, however, as he volun-teers for pitch cleaning at Bower Fold, mans the turnstiles when needed, helps sells refreshments and also ar-ranges supporters’ transport for away matches. Now we need to find this year’s worthy recipient – and we need you to help us deliver a day they will never forget!

HARTLEY WINTNEY UNDER 18 ALLIED COUNTIES LEAGUE: CENTRAL DIVISION

Hartley Youth kept up their promotion challenge with a resounding win last Thursday night. Highmoor had a number of good individuals but were just that, a group of individuals. Proud of the boys who were professional in their approach and relentless during the game in what was farcical conditions. No running water, no electricity for dressing rooms until 7pm, a 10 minutes warm up as we couldn’t get into the facilities and an unbelievably bobbly pitch when we got out there! Goals from Liam McMenemy x2, Rory Williams x2, Dionis Pipero x2, George Frisex2 & Sam Bramwell.

Well done all.
