Math Kangaroo

● National competition, Run by local volunteers

● Test at grade levels 1-12

● Targets more at concepts

● 75 mins, 24 multiple choice questions for 1st-4th grade, 30 questions for 5th grade and up

● Once a year on the 3rd Thursday in March

● Registrate on Math Kangaroo Official Website ○ 35000+ students attend the competition in 2020 ○ 12000+ attendants from CA○ 24% of students awarded

American Math Competition (AMC)

● AMC 8 (8th grade & below): 25 multiple choice Qs/ 40 minutes

Every November @ Thomas Hart Middle School MPR, 3:30-5:00 pm --- $5 (2020 online)

AMC 8 Practice Link: AMC 8 Problems & Solutions

● AMC 10 (10th grade & below): 25 Qs/75 minutes

○ AMC 10 A & AMC 10 B @ February

○ Both the A and the B versions of AMC 10 and AMC 12 have the same number of questions and rules of scoring, equal in difficulty and distribution of topics. The only differences are the competition dates and that each version has a different set of questions.

○ Top 2.5% 🡪 AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Exam)🡪 USAJMO (USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad) 🡪 Awards

Berkeley Mini Math Tournament

● Middle School Students + Advanced 5th graders

● 5 students per team (CACC can form teams)

○ Puzzle Round/Individual Round/Pacer Round/Team Round

● Date: November, usually on Sunday / Online Tournament in Spring of 2021

● Location: UC Berkeley Campus

● Registration in CACC: $10

Berkeley Math Tournament

● High School students + Advanced 7th & 8th graders

● Date: Usually in March / Online Tournament in Oct of 2020

● Middle School Only– home school students can participate (CACC cannot form a team)

● 4 levels of competition - school, chapter, state and national

○ School Round: Early February■ Sprint Round: focuses on speed and accuracy. Students have 40 minutes to complete 30 math problems

without a calculator.■ Target Round: focuses on problem-solving and mathematical reasoning. Students receive 4 pairs of problems

and have 6 minutes to complete each pair, assuming the use of a calculator.■ Team Round: focuses on problem-solving and collaboration. Students have 20 minutes to complete 10 math

problems,■ Countdown Round: focuses on speed and accuracy. Students have a maximum of 45 seconds per problem

without a calculator. *The top scoring student from each school and the top 20% of individuals from each chapter advance to Chapter Invitational Competition,

○ Chapter Invitational Competition in Late February: The top 5 students from each chapter and the 10 next highest scoring students in the state advance to the State Compe tition

○ State Competition in March

○ National Competition in May
