MATH 317: MATHEMATICAL STATISTICS

Meeting Place: On Tuesdays, we will be in the computer classroom (McGregory 210); on Thursdays,we will be in McGregory 226.

Oce Hours: TR 9.00am to 10.00am and by appointment.

Book: Modern Mathematical Statistics with Applications, Second Edition by Jay Devore and KennethBerk.

Coverage: See the next two pages

Computer: We will be using Excel since this is widely available (and is good to know). We willhave one dedicated class period to getting familiar with Excel after which we will frequently use itduring Tuesday classes.

Assignments: Homework will be assigned and collected ten times throughout the semester. I willrandomly choose 5 problems to grade. Each problem is worth 5 points. There are also 3 lab reportsdue, each worth 25 points. The assignments are on the fourth page. If you lose this syllabus, youcan download it at www.aaronrobertson.org (so you might want to write this address down in yournotebook).

Testing: There will be 2 midterms and a final (that acts as a third midterm (i.e., only over contentafter the second midterm). The midterms are during the regular class time on Tuesday, February 17,and Tuesday, March 31.

The final is: Tuesday, May 5, at 3.00pm.

Late work: Late homework will not be accepted. Period. Homework is late once I leave theclassroom on the day homework is collected. Make-up midterms will not be given without a note fromyour doctor or dean. If you know you will miss a test, you must notify me before the test so that wecan make arrangements for you to take the test before the scheduled date.

Evaluation: The midterms and final are each worth 25%, and the total of all assignments is worth25%.
