24TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Forgiveness is a choice that leads to life.

Life always offers us choices. Will we hold onto anger or choose to forgive? Will we live with a spirit of compassion or withhold mercy? Will we hold onto hurts and griev-ances or extend a hand in peace? Living out the commands of God is no easy task, but if we show mercy and forgiveness to others, we are assured of the same from our Heavenly Father.

What’s Happening at ‘BVM’ and What You Can Do to Help

Since mid-March and the closing of our Church and all Houses of Worship due to the Corona Virus, we’ve all suffered greatly. Our Masses continued, celebrated by your

priests privately and streamed each day to your homes via our Parish Website and Face-book (maternitybvmphilly), thanks to Fr. Mark and Fr. Joseph (a great job!).

We returned to public celebration of Mass at 4:30 PM on Saturday, June 6. Our Mass Schedule is now the same; our Sunday 7 PM Mass returns September 13. For those unable to attend Holy Mass, we stream its Celebration on Wednesdays,

and Sundays at 8 AM, available all day to view and participate in at home.

For the record, Confessions never stopped and are heard every Saturday from 3 to 4 PM in the Lower Chapel. All other Sacraments are also celebrated. In doing all this, we want you to know that our Churches are totally sanitized after every Mass and Service. We follow all Government and Archdiocesan

mandates in order to keep our Churches in as perfect condition as possible.

We did take a huge financial hit during all this time, and we thank all those who have been so very generous to our Church Family during this pandemic.

You know who you are and you kept us going in the mission of bringing Jesus to all!

“What can I do to help”, you might ask. Here’s a Top 10 List to carefully consider. 1. IIncrease your Sunday Offering. If away from Church, please come home! Talk to one of our priests; you’ll be surprised and certainly welcomed. Together we get it done!

2. Be as generous as possible in the Fall Appeal. It’s our only extra Collection and makes needed plant improvements right here in our Parish possible.

3. Be a Raffle Seller. This part of our Annual Carnival happened this year, even though the Carnival didn’t. It really helps us make everything work.

4. ‘Sponsor a Student’. Details on this program that helps needy Parish Families send their children to our School are in the Bulletin most weeks. Helping them, you help your Church — and yourself in the process — via your generosity and goodness.

5. Do SCRIP. Everybody shops. Use SCRIP at more than 200 local businesses, even if you don’t have children in School, and you’ll be keeping our tuition affordable for all.

6. Help at and support the Carnival., if it hopefully happens. Attend it, work at it, buy a Raffle Ticket for it. You’ll get back much more from the experiences than you could ever give!

7. Save Box Tops. Check your groceries for “Educational Box Tops” and drop them at Church for our School. Nothing’s too small; everything helps.

8. Remember Maternity B.V.M. at the Close of 2020. We make a worthy tax deduction for you and can certainly get a lot done after a tough year with your end-of-year help.

9. Remember Maternity B.V.M. in your Will. A tough topic to write about, but the time to consider this is sooner than later. Bequests can be earmarked for special Parish pur-poses and are a beautiful Memorial to honor your beloved deceased.

10. PRAY! This last tip tops them all: pray for “BVM” and our Church at large. TY! FPQ

FFatima Holy Hour for World Peace

The annual Fatima Holy Hour for World Peace spon-sored by The World Aposto-late of Fatima will be held at Our Lady of Calvary Church, 11024 Knights Road, on Sun-day, September 13, at 7 PM.

Remember to wear a mask as you enter the Chapel.

WELCOME, FR. TERRY WEIK!

Hello! I want to introduce myself: I’m Fr. Terry Weik; the new guy on the block here at Maternity B.V.M. My surname is German (though 3/4 of my heritage is Irish) and only 4 letters long, but it contains a double vowel combi-nation that trips up a lot of folks. So I prefer to go by Fr. Terry, as it’s a lot easier to pronounce. I used to say I’m the new kid on the block, but I’m not a kid anymore. In fact, I come here as a Parish Vicar with the status of Senior Priest. The ‘Senior’ part meaning that I don’t get around as quickly as I once did. I’m now the Pastor Emeritus of Visitation, B.V.M. Parish in Trooper, where I served as Pastor for 4 years. I’m very happy to be welcomed into the Maternity Parish Family, where my focus will be on your pastoral care needs and things sacramental and spiritual and not administrative or financial. I grew up in Bristol Borough, attending St. Mark’s School, Bishop Egan High School, and after a year at Bucks Community College, I entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. I was two years ahead of our Pas-tor, Fr. Paul Quinter. I was ordained in 1980 and spent 8 years ministering in parishes in Chester and Drexel Hill before discerning a calling to Religious Life. I entered the Society of Mary (Marianists) in 1988 and for the next 25 years as a Religious Order Monk, I was engaged in a variety of ministries all over the eastern half of the U.S. Assignments included High School teaching/Chaplaincy and Graduate Studies in Hollywood and Miami Gardens, FL; Novitiate Formation and High School teaching in Day-ton and Cincinnati; Graduate Studies in Toronto; Parish and Retreat House Youth & Young Adult Min-istry and later serving as Pastor in Eldersburg and Sparks, MD; directing University Campus Ministry and teaching as adjunct Professor of Theology and later Doctoral Studies in San Antonio; and Family Retreat Center Ministry in Cape May Point, NJ. About 8 years ago, I returned to the service of the Philly Archdiocese, serving as Parish Vicar at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Doylestown; then as Pastor at Visitation B.V.M., Trooper; and now here in Bus-tleton. Though born in Philadelphia at Hahnemann Hospital, this is the first time I am living within the city. I look forward when, hopefully very soon, we will be finished with this crazy pandemic and put away our face masks and social distancing. Then we can get to properly come to know each other. Until then, we protect our safety as best we can and greet one another from a little bit of a distance. Better days are coming. Thank you so very much for the warm welcome into the Family. I have heard many wonderful things about what a great Parish this is (150 years strong), and I’m grateful to become part of it. God bless you all! Fr. T.W.
