What is the research area and why? Maternal health : It refers to the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. o Health: It is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Key facts on why it should be addressed: Approximately 800 woman dies every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. 287,000 women died in 2010 during and following pregnancy and childbirth. 5th goal from the 8 Millennium Development Goals for 2015.
