Materials

ActionAttach a strip of masking tape onto the 2-liter bottle, vertically, from top to bottom.

Fill the measuring cup with 60 mL of water. Pour the water into the 2-liter bottle. Mark the water level on the tape. Repeat until you have marked to the top of the bottle.

Fill the dishpan with about 10cm of water.

Fill the 2-liter bottle to the top with water.

Cover the top of the bottle with your hand.

TTurn the bottle upside down in the pan of water. Keep your hand covering the top until it is completely submerged in the water.

Place one end of the plstic tube in the mouth of the bottle. Leave the other end out to breathe into.

Choose your rst tube, and completely exhale all the air from your lungs, then nhale through the tube for 3 seconds.

Measure how much air is now in the bottle, and mark the amount.

RRepeat steps 4-9 with each of the different sized tubes.

Compare the results and determine which size tube allowed you to get the most air!
