Tuesday 2nd June

In today’s lesson, Múinteoir Ray taught us how a country can apply to host a major event, the way Ireland is applying to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027. How exciting! To host a sports event, we need to make sure we have enough stadiums in which the matches can be played. See if you can match the pictures with the names of Irish stadiums below, by drawing a line between them.

Sketch Your Own StadiumFill in the template on the next page

• What would your dream stadium look like?

• What’s the name of it?

• What sport or sports would be played there?

• How many fans could fit into the stadium?

• What colours would the seats be?

• Would you have shops in the stadium to buy food or sports gear?

• Would there be signs with ads on them around the stadium?

Tell us all about it and why not send it into us? We’d love to see your design!

Marvellous Mascots! One way to get fans singing songs and cheering loudly during a match is to have a team mascot. We have many fantastic mascots for different sports teams in Ireland, like Barry the Bodhrán and Leo the Lion.

If you could create a mascot for your favourite team, what would it look like? What would you name him/her? Would it be an animal? Is there an animal that would be good to represent Ireland as a mascot? Have a think and start creating. You could even make a costume and dress up as your mascot! There are so many options!
