Masthead Font Styles Analysis

Font: Big noodle titling

This is an extremely dramatic font as all of the characters are in bold and capital font. As it is tall it will stand out and make it easy to read on the page. I will be able to manipulate the wording using the ‘vertical scale’ and the ‘horizontal scale’ in Photoshop without it becoming distorted. However I’m looking for a font with particular interesting characteristics . Also my masthead will need to stretch across the whole width of the A4 and I don’t think this font will be suitable for that.

This is an interesting font as some characters fall lower than others for example the ‘J’. This is an interesting approach which is what I am looking for, I will consider using this one as I could manipulate the ‘J’ with the main image. It is a stretched font already which means it will work perfectly with my A4 page and wont appear warped or distorted.

This is a rather original style which is not normal to others. Its simplistic, fresh approach to its style seems quite futuristic. I like how the style appears however I am not sure whether it will look as good with all of the other features on my front cover. The characters are interesting which I like such as the strange curve with the ‘J’ and how the ‘C’ is abnormal with its small space between the join, making it seem like an ‘O’. Still I’m just not particularly interested in the futuristic approach it brings.

I have decided to choose ‘Lotte Paperfang’ as one of my options for my masthead because of its individual look and unusual characters. I feel that it has similar features to ‘CLASH’ my chosen magazine of inspiration. The product is not very thick and easy to read. Each letter makes a statement due to its sharp approach. The individualism of the character ‘S’ gives an interesting vibe. The font will suit the A4 page perfectly and I can increase the size to quite large which is what I want with the masthead.

After thought and consideration I have decided to go with this font because of its uniqueness, the font would suit the personality of the magazine with each of the stories and this is what I think will lead buyers to purchase the magazine. The ‘S’ Is particularly interesting and I think it will add a relationship between the reader and the magazine. Lastly it fits all the measurement criteria, and will sit on top of the A4 page perfectly.
