Instructions At the Computer:

Flower:

In this project, we will focus on using the new MasterWorks III workspace

while using the drawing tools and applying the fills. Please note, that the outer

blue circle around the image will not be used for this project.

1. Download the image to a location of your choice.

2. Open the program by clicking on the MasterWorks III icon on

the desktop.

3. To retrieve the image, click the Backdrop Tool icon under the

Home tab on the top toolbar and Load Image. Locate the image from

the saved location. Click Open to place the image on the workspace as

a backdrop.

4. It is now time to draw the artwork based on the backdrop image.

Follow the next set of steps to draw the center area on the image:

Click on the Zoom tool on the top toolbar. Left click and drag

a box around the center section of the image or left click once on

the backdrop to increase the zoom ratio.

Activate the Line drawing tool by clicking on the down arrow

below the Artwork Home tab . The center of the flower will

be drawn first. Start at the top and place your first point. Place the

second point following the shape of the center section. Continue to

place points following the shape and place the last point over the

first point. Right click to create the shape and to place the area

under Sequence View.

Click on Close Shape tool on the top toolbar to fully

enclose the area. If you make a mistake while placing the points,

use the Backspace key to remove the point(s).

Page 3: MasterWorks III Flower Wall Hanging Design

Select the area and change the color to orange using any of the

Manufacturer’s thread catalogs. In the sample, the Madeira Thread

Chest was used.

5. The blue area around the center will be down next:

Using the blue sections as a guide, draw eight areas using the same

Artwork Line tool. Place the points around these petals while

starting with the section on the top and working clockwise around

the image. Tip: Use the Zoom tool to better see the individual

areas.

Click on Close Shape after drawing each of the areas. The second

areas will be shown again under Sequence View.

Change these sections to a light blue thread color. The drawn areas

and the color of the areas are shown under Sequence View.

6. Follow the next set of steps to draw the four red areas:

Click on a red color chip from the color bar. Option: You can

change the color either before or after you have drawn the areas.

Zoom into the top right red section on the flower.

Page 4: MasterWorks III Flower Wall Hanging Design

{Designer’s Gallery} MasterWorks III Flower Wall Hanging Design Page 4

Select the Artwork Line tool and place the first point on the top

right red section and work around the shape. To create a curved

line, hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard and release when you

want to place a straight line. This will take some practice, so

remember to use the Backspace key to remove points that have

been placed incorrectly.

After you have placed the last point, right click.

Click on the Close Shape tool.

To view the next red area with the same zoom ratio, click on the

Pan tool on the top toolbar. Click on the image on the

workspace while holding down the mouse button to slide the

image upward. Stop when the bottom right red section is centered

on the workspace.

Activate the Artwork Line tool and draw this section following the

previous instructions.

Continue to draw the third and fourth red areas using the pan tool

to move, the Artwork Line tool to draw, and the Close Shape tool

to completely close the areas.

7. Follow Step 6 to complete the area that is green, recoloring will be the

only exception.

Select a light green color from the color bar.

8. To create the purple areas on the image, follow the next set of steps:

Activate the Zoom tool and zoom into one of the purple areas.

Page 5: MasterWorks III Flower Wall Hanging Design

Select a purple color chip on the color tool bar.

Using the Artwork Line tool draw the outer purple area and close

the shape.

Draw the inside purple area and close the shape.

Select both of the areas. Right click on the workspace and from the

list of commands select Group. By grouping the two areas

together, it will make it easier to move the areas. Copy and paste

will be used instead of drawing the same areas over and over. This

is a great time saver.

To duplicate the areas, select both areas at the same time. Right

click and select Copy. Right click again and select Paste.

Move the duplicated sections to the next purple area while

working around the image clockwise.

Rotate the shapes by clicking on the rotate dot in the top right

corner and rotate until the shapes have the same orientation as the

image.

Right click and select Paste to create another set of purple

sections. Move and rotate these sections to the next purple area.

Repeat this step until all of the purple sections have been applied

with artwork.

9. To create the blue outer border around the image, follow the next set of

steps:

Select the Artwork Line tool again and place the first point at the

top of the image on the blue outside line. Place points while

holding down the Ctrl key where curved lines are required and

releasing where a straight line is required. Remember if you place a

point incorrectly use the backspace key on the keyboard to remove

it. Use the zoom tool to better see the area. Finish the area with a

right click. See the illustration below.

Click on Close Shape.

Select a dark blue color from the color palette to change the color.

Using the same drawing tool place points around the inside of the

blue outer border around the image. Right click to set the shape

and close the shape to fully enclose the area. See the illustration

below.

To create one area for the outer border, hold down the Ctrl key and

select the outside border area and then select the inside border

area. Select the two areas from the Sequence View

Right click on the workspace and from the list of commands select

Combine. Note: Under Sequence View there is now only one area.

10. The design will be worked on in the same sequential order that was

used when drawing the artwork areas. Follow the next set of steps to

fill the areas with stitches:

Select the first area (center orange area).

Click on the down arrow below Apply Stitches under the

Home tab. Under the Column options, select Radial. Rely on the

default settings.

Select the inside blue areas under sequence view. These areas will

be listed as #2.

select Standard from the Fill category.

Under the Properties field, click on the down arrow next to Pattern

and select Radom from list. Click on Apply.

Under Sequence View, select the first area under the red #3 area.

(With this color we will apply different fills to each of the red

sections so select each area individually.)

Click on Apply Stitches. Scroll down and select the Fancy fill

stitches. The default fill will be applied to the area.

following illustration.

Select the next red area and apply Fancy fill #coil4.

Select the third red area and apply Fancy fill #201.

Select the fourth red area and apply Fancy fill #maltese2. Refer to

the following illustration for the completion of these areas.

To fill the next areas (green # 4), select the first green area under

Sequence View. Each of these areas will also be selected

individually and will have different fills applied. To the first area

apply Fancy fill #xpattern3, the second area apply Fancy fill

#wave1, the third area apply Fancy fill #wave5, and the fourth area

#wave2. The following illustration will show the completion of

those areas.

Select all areas for the purple section (#5) under Sequence View.

Click on Apply Stitches and from the list select Auto under the

Column category. No other changes will be made to these

sections. Refer to the following illustration for the finished look.

Select the last area (#6 blue) under Sequence View.

Click on the down arrow under Apply Stitches and from the list

choose Auto under the Column category. No other changes will be

made to this area. See the last illustration for the finished design.

11. To resize the design, select All Items under Sequence View. Under the

Properties field scroll over and select Transform.

Change the Width to 170mm (as shown in the following

illustration). Since the Aspect Ratio field has a checkmark

selected, the aspect of the design will be maintained.
