Welcome!DIARYDATES
Welcome to this final addition of your MasterMind Monthly for 2012. Much has changed this year… we have appointed a new CEO, James Darling; we have appointed a new Operations manager, Leonie Barnes; and we are moving into our new building which includes two training rooms.
We’ve launched MasterMind Year Two V.I.P. with huge success; and we’ve changed the one day Implementation Days to two day Master Classes.
Along the way our business has grown by 20% and we have just launched our new coaching school, The Executive Coaching Academy (TECA), with its Certificate IV in Executive and Workplace Coaching.
We have applied for our NLP courses to be nationally accredited, including an Advanced Diploma of NLP and await the governing body to approve these qualifications for our scope of delivery.
All of this and much more was accomplished by people who are dedicated to our mission. None of this could have happened without people choosing to find out what they can accomplish, and who love what they do.

If each of us had the attitude ‘I want to do it my way,’ and ‘I don’t want to work for anyone,’ none of us would be here, and MasterMind would not exist. The building could not have been purchased and the qualifications would not have been sought. There would be no new school and no TCI.
THIS IDEA OF ‘GOING IT ALONE’ IS OVER RATED AND POORLY THOUGHT OUT.IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE IDEA OF WORKING FOR SOMEONE, WHY WOULD ANYONE WORK FOR YOU?
If you don’t like the idea of relying on someone, why would someone else rely on you?
Apple would not have been created with that mentality. Neither would Google. We would have no movies, no newspapers, no schools and no Louis Vuitton (gasp).
Alison Crabb, one of our MasterMinders, says that it takes a village to raise a child. I think she’s right. And I think it takes a team to fulfill the dream.
You may be doing it alone right now. Don’t let that be the point. Let your doing it alone be a stepping stone to where you’re heading. Share your dream with others. Share your passion. Build a mission that can bring people around you to your campfire. And then be worthy of their visit, so they stay, not because you want people to work for you, but because you want to work with them.

Ummm… Stop asking me about your avatar. Stop asking me about your table of value. Stop asking me to tell you if you’ve got a good opt in offer. How the fuck would I know? YOU have to know your avatar, and that takes talking with them, listening, noticing what they prefer, seeing what they care about and then responding to that with something of relevance to see if you’re understanding them.
The ONLY way I can know your avatar is if I do all of that. And, you’re kidding, right? It took me five years to get to know my posse. I’m still listening to them intently. If you think I have anything of value to share about your avatar then you must think I have magical powers, because they only way I can comment on your list of adjectives describing this
person I have never met is to either:
1. SPEND HOURS AND HOURS TALKING WITH THEM AND LISTENING, OR 2. USING MAGIC.
Seeing as I plan to do neither, stop asking me.

MARKETING MATTERSADVANCED TIPS FOR MARKETING
Does your marketing sell the content, or
the Big Idea?
We talk about our mission in our marketing. We talk about the Big Idea all the time. Do you?
Do you show, in your marketing,
what’s in it for them?
You may have the Big Idea in your marketing, but it’s appeal goes up only when you show how that idea gives them what they want.
Do you give reasons why you’re being
cool?
People need to know why you’re giving them something cool, or they doubt it’s value and your motives.
Do you use the Educational
Spectrum (MYM) when sending emails or consulting?
People need to know they can trust you before they will choose, so become their trusted advisor before you become their supplier, not after.
Do you WOW before or after the sale?
If you’re thinking about how cool it will be to get the client, you’re not modeling us – think how cool it is to serve someone and add value to their lives, and let go of what you think you need to get. Wow before any business is transacted.

Are you constantly refining who your
avatar is?
Your avatar is NOT a list of adjectives, it’s who you really can serve the best and most effectively. And remember, there are three types of clients – the clients you think you have, the clients you want to have and the clients you actually have. They all match when you become the leader worthy of their fellowship. Until then, keep growing.
Are you testing, tracking, measuring,
all marketing?
We track our leads in, where they come from by source and by location (ie. mag ad placed in WA), quality of lead (what they buy) and we’re always looking at
how to write better headlines, copy, testimonials and offers to match our avatar
Do you have at least 10 ways to bring in
leads?
Over reliance on any one way is insanity – the number one is the worst number in business. We use SEO, Adwords, Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube, magazine ads, magazine articles, referrals, free events, books, joint ventures, speaking gigs, winning awards…
Are you seeing marketing as a cost
or an investment?
Every marketing dollar gets return on investment (it maybe zero, so change what you’re doing), so keep
investing in the only way there is to bring business to your door.
Are you the leader for your market or
are you the market?
What are you doing to ensure you are worthy of this leadership? How are you educating yourself on this market and what it wants? Why should they follow you?
TRUST THIS IS VALUABLE TO YOU. KEEP GOING UNTIL YOU LIKE YOUR ANSWERS TO ALL THESE QUESTIONS AND THEN COME BACK TO ME AND I’LL GIVE YOU SOME MORE!

In ‘The Innovation Secrets of Steve Jobs” by Carmine Gallo, she quotes Berns:
“TO SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY THAN OTHER PEOPLE, THE MOST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION IS TO BOMBARD THE BRAIN W I T H T H I N G S I T H A S N E V E R ENCOUNTERED BEFORE. NOVELTY R E L E A S E S T H E P E R C E P T U A L PROCESS FROM THE SHACKLES OF PAST EXPERIENCES AND FORCES THE BRAIN TO MAKE NEW JUDGMENTS.”
(Iconoclast: A Neuroscientist Reveals How To Think Differently, Gregory Berns.)
Vision is not the perception. Seeing with our eyes is really seeing with our minds. We cannot see what is there in front of us, we can only ‘see’ that we perceive to be there.
IBM thought it knew the market and that giant central computers would be the future. That is what they saw. Jobs saw a computer in every home.
Both looked at the same market and ‘saw’ completely different things.
MEMBER’S QUESTION
QUESTION:What’s the best way to generate ideas? How do I become more innovative?
ANSWER:

MASTERMIND MONTHLY | December 2012 | 8
The other thing to consider when learning how to think is that imagination is more important than knowledge. I see too many people thinking they must acquire knowledge, and yet have no idea what to do with this knowledge, because they lack imagination.
To think differently, you must be willing to act differently. Thinking that does not have a new trajectory in action is not thinking, it’s acquiring knowledge or remembering knowledge. I think some people live their lives in one big info fest.
To be innovative, you must question everything. Not challenge everything, but question. How does that work? When does
that work? What is the response? What is the cause of the response? How can I do this? What do I need? What shall I do with this right now?
I see lazy learners who appreciate what I teach, agree with it, write it down, and wait passively for the next idea I have.
That’s not generating anything and it’s not building the innovator muscle.
Challenge your own status quo. Don’t challenge mine or what I do. Challenge what you do. You are the instigator of your next idea, or it could be business as usual, it’s up to you.

LEADERSHIP WITH PURPOSE
LET YOUR SILENCE BE YOUR MASTERPIECE
BEING LIKED IS NOT THE SAME AS BEING TRUSTED.To lead, you must have followers. To have followers, you must be trusted. To be t r u s t e d , y o u m u s t b e consistent. To be consistent, you must have something you believe in. To have something to believe in, you must have a mission. To have a mission….
All of this grinds to a halt if being liked (not judged) is what drives you.
People will smile at you. Agree with you. Validate you. And they should not have to do this. If being liked as a leader is your goal, you are not serving these people, you are abusing your relationship w i th t hem. They sm i l e because they realize that you want to be liked. You’re their leader, and they want to
please you, so they smile and give you want you want. Hostage taking, anyone?
I think there has to come a point where the childlike need to have app rova l ge t s replaced with something with a little more substance.
Surely it’s the child who seeks to be validated and the adult who does the validating? But i f you’re seeking to be validated and feel empty without approval, you are the child in the relationship. You are dependent upon others for your sense of validation.
There is no mission in this. There is no internal drive that sustains you. Only external reinforcement will do.
Consider for a moment the people you admire.
What would you say sustains them? Is it what others say or think, or is it something within themselves, that comes from

inside and is sent out to the world?
The energy equation with people we admire is clearly one of giving out, not seeking t o s u c k t h e e n e r g y o f validation in.
If you know you are still the child, and feel dependent on validation, it’s time for massive action. Without telling a soul, begin to take action. Without whispering a word, do some stuff that scares you and serves others.
LET SILENCE BE YOUR SOLACE.YOU WILL GROW INTO MATURITY FASTER THAN ANY AFFIRMATION, BELIEF SHIFT OR A COACHING SESSION.
LET YOUR SILENCE AS YOU SERVE BE YOUR MASTERPIECE.
Who you become will be who y o u h a v e d r e a m e d o f becoming. All those years of seeking approval were never going to work. Simple silence as we serve. That is all.

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN MASTERMIND?
I joined Mastermind in July 2011 at the Breakthrough to Business Success weekend. I joined because I was starting out in business and really needed to learn both the tactics for marketing and also the mindset of a successful business owner.
WHAT WERE YOUR EXPECTATIONS?
My expectations were to read some manuals, listen to webinars and build my business. That has been completely blown away with so much more than I had ever expected (so much I struggle to keep up with it all) and even more than the content, the support from Sharon and the mentors has been second to none. I also never expected it would be such an amazing community of supportive people from not just Australia but all around the world. There are MasterMinders at all different stages of business and it is so great to have such smart, caring and high achieving people literally a click away.

WHERE WERE YOU AT WHEN YOU STARTED OUT IN TERMS OF MINDSET? WHERE ARE YOU NOW?
Small thinking is where I started out - bigger thinking now. What I am doing now I would never have done 15 months ago and what I am planning for the future would never have been in my wildest dreams. I have also really developed a deeper understanding of what living at cause really means and I love the responsibility and empowerment of that.
WHAT ARE THE THREE KEY MESSAGES YOU BELIEVE HAVE MADE THE MOST DIFFERENCE TO YOU IN THE PAST 13 MONTHS?
1. Keep turning up, keep getting on Facebook and adding value, asking questions and be in the room with Sharon, Clare, Owen and other MasterMinders as much as possible. I believe the more we turn up there the more we are turning up for our business and the dreams we are making reality.
2. Just do something - the ducks are never lined up and you just have to do something and then something else. this is what creates the momentum and this is what creates success.
3. Listen to the mentors. Sometimes it isn't always what I have wanted to hear but it is always what I have needed to hear and every time I have grown from it.
4. Can I add one more? Have a mission and values. When I created my mission and values the business took an amazing turn. The clarity it has given me in the direction I am going - the decisions I make are all aligned with my mission and values. Critical to start on this early and allow it to evolve and change and grow as you do.
5.
YOU’RE A VIP MEMBER, WHAT DOES THE YEAR AHEAD HOLD FOR YOU THAT YOU’RE MOST EXCITED ABOUT?
Lots of things. I'm excited to still be part of the mastermind community and to be able to continue to come and connect with others and bounce ideas off other MasterMinders. I'm excited that I have been around a while and trust that I can add value to other MasterMinders as they start their journey. For me personally 2013 is going to be a massive year. The past 12 months has really been a lot of building blocks, creating networks, relationships, programs, products and systems. 2013 I am expanding into a new market, one that I was frightened of 15 months ago! So good times ahead.

AND ON A LOVELY NOTE!... WILL I SEE YOU HERE?
I am trus)ng I will see you at our annual celebra)on, loosely called Christmas Party, but more an opportunity to come together, celebra)on our friendships and make a difference. If you can, it would be wonderful if you and your family could bring along a gi>, perhaps something in the spor)ng goods area (older kids) for kids who are forced to leave their homes because of domes)c violence and o>en leave with absolutely nothing. I simply cannot imagine what that would be like. L
We will have a tree there, and all the gi>s (unwrapped thanks) will be placed around the tree, and then later a truck comes and takes them to the home, where they are distributed for Christmas and throughout
the year. If you can’t be there on the night, it would be great if you could send your gi> and we will ensure it reaches a child. J We also contact the Sacred Heart Mission and ask what they want for the Women’s House. We’ll
announce on the night what we have bought for them with the Founda)on money. Anywho, trust you’ll come along and share a story, connect with a friend and bring your good cheer.

WHAT’S HAPPENING ON FACEBOOK
Christopher Kwan got jiggy with “firing clients”, Kamahl Barhoush was on the hunt for crew and relationship coach contacts and got sorted on both fronts, Owen wowed Shane O’Grady, Tim Bishop delivered a workshop on success keys to excellence,
MICHELLE BANNISTER CHANNELED SHARON WHEN WRITING HER WHY, AND A CHALLENGE WAS SET TO COME UP WITH A WORD FOR EXPONENTIAL GROOVIENESS…STILL TO BE RESOLVED!!
STONE GYE OMG - Sharon Pearson, I knew you were right about the Guru model, which I have been managing for the past 6 years not being sustainable, but it didn't hit me until today of how right you are. Today, after Day 1, NLP MP, I had a group fitness class with 127 participants and 2 staff. ESIP definitely needs to be addressed immediately and hiring of more staff ASAP. This is both a wonderful issue to have and a challenge. Thank you for all of your contributions in MM last week - the growth of up to 1000+ registrations in my company memberships in the past week is t imely with my having part ic ipated in Mastermind.
DAVID HOWELLS Thanks Kamahl! Late last year Kamahl Barhoush very generously made the highest auction bid for a ride in a Championship winning rally car in our MM fundraising drive for "The Bus". Over the weekend he got to enjoy the experience as VIP Guest at the Australian Rally Championships. The smile kinda says he enjoyed it!
SIMONE OUTTERIDGE So last night I ran another Wealthy Wise Women workshop with Bendigo Bank. We had 50 women in the room. I did so much preparation for this night, lots of activities with
the group and great information on goal setting. It did not come off as I had hoped. For some reason nerves got the better of me and all the stories I had built in, totally disappeared from my mind. But instead of feeling no good about it and giving up, I'm taking my own advice and being a pilot. I will evaluate and course adjust to keep me on track!!
