European hub of higher education in design, Istituto d’Arte Applicata e Design - IAAD is capable to full the demand of the market for highly qualied designers thanks to its 35 years expertise in design education, its cross curricular approach and its international dimension with its branches in Italy and France. Thanks to the partnership signed in 2012 with the French Écoles de Condé, the group counts on over 5.000 students, 400 professors, 7 venues - 5 in France in Paris, Lyon, Nancy, Nice, Bordeaux and 2 in Italy (Torino and Bologna). An integrated system oering more than 30 courses ranging from Bachelor and Master courses, from transportation design to fashion and textile design, from restoration of cultural heritage to marketing and management of arts and design. In Italy, in Torino, the new academic year 2013-2014 began in the new IAAD premises inside the future Lavazza headquarter, with 3.000 square meters available for didactic, with spaces for expositions and conferences.

According to IAAD, design is "project culture", a cultural and intellectual process founded on the core idea that in order to create a serious and prepared professional it is mandatory to unite the rigor of academic research with a practical, experimental method based on planning, and typical of advanced professional training. This methodological approach has proven to be the best in creating successful professionals, as demonstrated by the brilliant careers of

numerous IAAD alumni over the course of 35 years. In terms of concepts, projects and style, IAAD's philosophy is to address the great tradition of Italian design, whose cultural and industrial value is recognized all over the world.

IAAD was born in 1978 with the objective of oering a new approach to training and education, by analyzing creative professionalisms eectively required by the job market and structuring specic learning paths. IAAD, through the years, has remodeled its educational oers numerous times, and is also doing so today with considerable commitment, addressing an historical moment characterized by deep cultural and socioeconomic transformations. Specically, technological evolution is quickly redesigning the whole range of "creative jobs".

Design is experiencing a time of strong momentum and growth. The rapid evolution of production methods and ways of living require more and more adaptability and innovation. Anticipating and stimulating change have become main factors eecting competitiveness, being an engine for change and eecting contemporary economies. Traditional disciplinary boundaries have been overwhelmed by the need for greater interaction, ability to work in groups and the transfer of technology. Designers are now required to know new design skills and ways of information sharing, as well as have improved ability to listen to the needs of clients. On the other hand, it provides designers with new opportunities to draw on the wealth of traditional knowledge but yet without formal conditions or style obligations. Even when applied to interior architecture, the designer must be able to make use of new skills to delineate separated professions, those typical of the architecture. The way of selling 'sales' has changed mainly because of the dissemination of "online shopping" and eect of mass distribution. New forms of shared consumption have been established and commercial spaces now take on new forms and functions. As in many other elds, they are not uniform linear transfor-mations but are rather coexisting contradictory phenomena

in very distinct situations.Local businesses have survived mass distribution because 'zero kilometre' goods are displayed side by side with goods coming from other continents. Even the shop under your house is not immune to the online buying phenomenon. Each industry sector has developed a mix of technologies and processes that the designer must be able to know how to use and to which the project has to adapt to.The very concept of ownership and selling is being questio-ned in favour of other forms of access to goods and services. The 'experience' of a product remains fundamental, even when a sale is not 'on the spot', it has become even more important to transmit the intangible values, narrative and symbology associated with the goods.Creativity, when also applied to a complex issue like commer-cial spaces can sometimes be rendered in a soware program to track a shipment as in an interface to manage to an online business application or an interactive information system, but in any case it must aim to take advantage of new knowledge/systems to improve the eectiveness of the process.

been closely linked to socializing, cultural exchange other then trading. In a contemporary city, new business strate-gies have taken over and are having a profound impact on transport, social relations, security, distribution of labour and centrality. The course aims to deepen through real cases studies the urban implications of the dierent ways of organizing trade/commerce.

Light and SoundThe design of the light and sound are fundamental aspects of commercial space design. This course will deal with the aspects of composition and performance of the possible design choices and key technologies.

Plant/Utility TechnologyThe course will explore the latest technology systems used in commercial space design and the necessary safety require-ments. Urban planning and administrative requirements of the re brigade, ASL, permits and licenses, signs.

Project Management and BudgetingStarting from needs anlysis, the course presents techniques to better manage the relationship with customers. By studying the needs in a systematic and rational way they can then become part of the project's objectives. Then certain principles of project management and cost control are introduced, with the use of professional soware programs for project management and budgeting.

Creativity TechniquesThe main objective of the course is to allow students to know and experiment the main creativity techniques (mindmap-ping, brainstorming, card sorting, ecc.) in order to let them choose and use the most suitable in the various design phases.

Share EconomyOvercoming exclusive ownership of goods is one of the most interesting revolutions of recent years. Designers are increa-singly committed to designing services and ways of providing access to property also innovating centuries old commerce visions and paradigms.A thorough knowledge of these phenomena and how they have a part in the creation of value is essential in order to operate professionally.

Commerce and the City and Sociology of ConsumptionA city is increasingly dened by the size of its consumer base. The traditional relationship between production and consu-mption is oen completely distorted by both physical and social distances that oen separate the two functions. The way individual choices are conditioned by sophisticated control techniques of information and advertising also eect them. The course will address the subject from a sociological point of view trying to describe what it means for a city of consumers. Since its origin, trade/commerce is one of the main functions of a town. Commercial spaces have always

key. Allowing the customer to discover a product in a pleasant and attractive atmosphere lends to their enjoyment. This and careful customer relationship management makes it possible to encourage them to buy and develop customer loyalty. The construction and development of a brand are two of the main issues to be considered in commercial space design. It is useful to have in-depth knowledge how commu-nication specialists work and what they expect from interior designers.

User Interface Design and Infographics The design of interfaces where humans interact with machi-nes has become more important with the number of "smart" devices we have to relate to, increases. They are not only computers but also mobile phones, home appliances, clothes and general objects. These establish the environ-ment that we are immersed and constantly interact in. The interfaces are key to giving continuity to the virtual experien-ce and real product. The course is accompanied by a module focusing on Arduino programming.Provide the customer with the right information in an eecti-ve and synthetic is a skill supported by infographic techni-ques, involving the use of visual forms, block diagrams, flow charts and mind maps.

Web MarketingAs many sectors are now using E-commerce. Its growing importance makes it essential for commercial space

History and Culture of Interior Design in ItalyInterior space, which was predominantly intended for residential use or use as a dedicated space for other activi-ties, is a place of extraordinary complexity. As a capacitor for memory, values and aection, the domain of interior architecture is physically identied by the materials present- xed or mobile – which individuals come into direct contact with. Starting from a reflection on the extraordinary experiences of some the great Italian masters in the years of armation of the "modern style". The course aims to reflect on the knowledge base necessary for concrete contemporary interior design.

MaterialsThe world of materials is rapidly evolving and professionals are required to have in depth knowledge of the performance of what is used. The acoustic, insulation, re resistance, durability, sustainability, maintenance, safety characteristi-cs are determining qualities in the choice of a material. The course consists of classes on materials such as wood, metal, plastic, stone and marble, ceramics, textiles, carbon and nano-materials. The regulatory aspects (ISO) will also be studied and the main production processes including printing, cutting, gluing. The course makes use of external contributions from companies and manufacturers.

Customer Shopping Experience and Brand Value The experience a customer has when they walk into a store is
