One of the 21st century’s greatest challenges forms the core of the MSc in Agro-Environmental Management. There is a growing demand for food and energy crops due to an increasing population and climate changes. However, this demand has a devastating effect on nature and the environment. To solve this challenge interdisciplinary competencies are needed, enabling the analysis and development of new and more sustainable production systems in agriculture.
With an MSc in Agro-Environmental Management you will acquire a holistic understanding of interrelationships and processes in the agro-ecosystem and of the impact of agricultural produ-ction on nature and the environment – and you can help make a difference by creating win-win situations for both agriculture, nature, the environment and the climate.

Understanding the big picture Agro-Environmental Management builds on components from four core areas at Aarhus University.You therefore get a broad education with specialised skills. The strong base means thatthe teaching is undertaken by leading international scientists within the main study areas. Weaim to give you a holistic understanding of the impacts of agriculture on environment, nature,and climate, and how these impacts can be managed.
The MSc in Agro-Environmental Management is open to students with a Bachelor’s degree inagricultural sciences, natural resources, biology, geology or geography.
international degreeThe topics that the degree covers, such as climate change, aquatic environment, soil resource,sustainability, and environmental legislation, are global. With the considerable Danish expertiseand experience in this area the degree attracts students from abroad. We therefore guaranteethat you will be challenged on both the scientific and social levels as you will have many fellowstudents from various nations. It also means that you will be taught in English.
Project work and thesisDuring the Master’s programme you will be attached to relevant research groups in connection with project work or with your thesis. Your thesis work can be performed at research departments at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, at the National Environmental Research Institute, or at the Institute of Biology.
Career prospectsThe objective of the degree is to enable you to critically analyze and develop new strategies for minimizing the impacts of agricultural production on environment, nature and climate.
With an MSc in Agro-Environmental Management you will be well equipped to seek a wide variety of jobs. With extensive knowledge and interdisciplinary expertise in the area of agricul-ture, nature, environment and climate interactions there are job opportunities in, for example, regional environment agencies, municipal nature conservation offices, agricultural advisory services, consulting engineers, teaching, NGOs in nature and environment, and EU institutions, ministries and other public authorities.
Research is also an obvious career choice that can be achieved via application to the univer-sity’s PhD programme, either after the first year of the MSc degree or following the completion of the thesis.
