»Companies are social communities. Executives who want to be successful in these communities require not only a broad-based knowledge of economics but also the know-how and ability to motivate co-workers and inspire their trust so that they can actively contribute their own expertise to the company. Those who have such skills have the best job opportunities and prospects of being promoted to executive positions.«
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Margit Osterloh | Professor of Management Science at the University of Warwick | Professor em. Department of Business Administration at the University of Zurich and Director of Studies of the MBA course at the FOM.

The FOM accreditation
Of 451 universities in Germany, five were "system-accredited" by the FIBAA at the beginning of 2012, and one of them was FOM. According to North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister of Sci-ence Svenja Schulze: "This makes FOM one of the best private universities of applied science in Germany."

FOM University of Applied Sciences
The master degree programme
The officially recognised FOM University of Applied Sciences, which is supported by the non-profit foundation BildungsCentrum der Wirt-schaft, was founded by industrial associations in 1993. As a university for working professionals, it promotes the transfer of knowledge be-tween university and businesses. Firmly anchored in the university's mission statement is the goal of enabling students to successfully combine study with work: "Apart from offering high standards of teaching and research, we organise attendance classes in such a way that they are compatible with a parallel professional activity". All study programmes are geared towards both the occupational requirements and schedules of working professionals.
FOM's master degree courses are part of the university's postgradu-ate programme. They focus on advanced and knowledge-enhancing courses of study that are taken after an initial academic degree. The Master degree courses came about in 2007 as a result of the Bol-ogna Process which introduced the tiered system of study consisting of bachelor and master degrees with standards that are comparable throughout Europe. The aim of the master degree courses is e.g. to prepare professional university graduates for management tasks in an international environment or for positions as division managers or cross-divisional executives. With over 4,000 registered master students, FOM is one of the biggest officially recognised universities for master degree programmes in Germany in the field of research and teaching.
FOM also cooperates closely with state universities as well as presti-gious institutes of higher education abroad. Numerous collaborations – with corporations such as Siemens, ThyssenKrupp and e.on as well as local medium-sized companies – allow us to live up to the claim that we are a "university of business".
Advantages for employees
Financial independence: You study while continuing to work and earn a frequent salary. Greater understanding through on-site attendance: You study
at your local study centre and can therefore discuss any questions you might have directly and in person. Strong connection between theory and practice: Your professors
and lecturers have an academic and business background – and course contents with a high practical relevance are guaranteed. Exchanging experiences and information: Your fellow students
work in different sectors of industry, which means that experiences and valuable information can be exchanged. Motivation: Group learning encourages students to keep up with classes. Online service: Use the Online Campus (also available as an app) to
register for exams, download scripts or carry out research. This saves time and effort. Text message service: FOM informs you via text message about any
changes in deadlines or class rooms. This means you are always up to date. Learn by App: Mobile learning is convenient, up to date and saves time. Professional mobility: If you have to move for professional or personal
reasons, you can continue to study at another FOM study centre.
