Gaudete Sunday
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near.
This is a quotation from Philippians 4:4-5, and in Latin, the first word of the antiphon is gaudete (Latin, “rejoice”; it's also pronounced with three syllables: gau-de-te) Advent is the season of preparing for the arrival of the Lord Jesus (both his first coming and his second coming), and by the third Sunday of Advent, we are most of the way through the season. Thus it is appropriate to rejoice as we see the goal of the season ap-proaching.
“The Lord is near.”
ADORATION- On Thursdays from 9AM-9PM there is Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at the Holy Family Center in Athens. Please come and spend some time with our Lord. To volunteer or for more information, contact Fr. Tom at the parish office: 740-592-2711. Please note there will be no Adoration on December 26 or on January 2.
CHRISTMAS EVE MASS SCHEDULE-DECEMBER 24
4:30PM Holy Cross 6:30 PM St. Mary of the Hills Midnight Holy Cross
There will be a Christmas Day Mass on December 25- 9:00AM at St. Paul .
NEW ENVELOPE PACKETS- Beginning with the new envelope packets, you will find envelopes for all of the yearly special collections. These collections are mandated by the United States Bishops Conference or our dio-cese. The money collected in these special collections is not income for our parishes, but rather goes directly to the beneficiary of the collection.
Also, at the request of both parish councils, each parish will have a monthly collection for "Maintenance and Re-pairs." This is a reserve fund set up to pay for maintenance projects only. The envelopes for this fund will be in the packets on the first Sunday of the month. However, you are welcome to give to this collection at any time through-out the month.
All of the special collection envelopes can be deposited in the regular collection at Mass, and we will sort them out at the office. Placing both donations in the regular collec-tion basket eliminates the need for frequent second collec-tions.
If you have not received envelopes in the past and would like to, or if you no longer wish to receive them, please contact Matthew Klim at the office.
BAPTISMS- Last Sunday we welcomed into the Church Zaianna Marie Williams and Alayah Marie Jane Conway who were baptized at Holy Cross on Sunday, December 8.
May the Lord give his angels charge over you to guide you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11
