JUNE 14, 2015 – ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMEAs we begin our summer season and the year’s long stretch of Ordinary Time, God seems to be a gardener. Trees and shoots and sprouts appear in both the first reading and the Gospel. Perhaps our prayer at the beginning of this growing season can be for God to help us to nurture the good seed of faith that has been planted in us, so that we can bear fruit for God’s reign.

Sunday, June 14, 2015Ez 17:22-24; 2 Cor 5:6-10; Mk 4:26-34In Saint Mark’s Gospel today, Jesus speaks in parables so that the people can understand what He is saying. Using everyday examples with which His listeners would have been familiar, He creates images in their minds of what the reign of God is like. As we listen today to His words, let us too be drawn into the story and eagerly learn what Jesus has to tell us.

Sunday, June 21, 2015Job 38:1, 8–11; 2 Cor 5:14–17; Mark 4:35–41

The Sanctuary LampThe Sanctuary Lamp burns constantly to proclaim the real presence of Jesus in the Tabernacle. The week, it also reminds us to pray for safety from all storms and natural disasters, especially Hurricanes.

Father, all the elements of nature obey your command. Calm the storms and hurricanes that threaten us and turn our fear of Your power into praise of Your goodness. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Lord, hold our troops in Your loving hands, protect them as they protect us.

We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior.

Thank you for your generosity in last week’s Collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign.

Because of your support, millions of faithful will have the opportunity to deepen their faith through daily resources on the Internet, television, and radio, and in print media. Remember, half of your donations are staying in our archdiocese to support local communication needs. Music Ministry Our Lady of the Gulf and Jami, our Music Director, would like to invite all who have a talent or love for music to join OLG’s Music Ministry. Music is an integral part of the life of the Church and an essential part of our Sunday Liturgies. Your talent is needed! Here are some ways you can participate:

FJoining choir: We meet at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the church, (all levels of experience are welcome! Only requirement is a teachable heart and to be present at the practice prior to singing on Sunday).

FCantors: solo song leaders who will assist our organist in leading music at Mass (limited experience required, and an informal audition, commitment to every week)

FInstrumentalists: We are looking for those who can commit to one Sunday Mass each week as well as those with specialized instruments who would be used at Christmas and Easter. Some instruments we are looking for include: guitar, piano, percussion, violin, cello, flute, trumpet, and more... (intermediate skill is required and you must be able to either read chord charts or sheet music).

Don’t be shy! Use your talent and love for music for the Lord!Interested? Call Jami or send an email:

740-227-0203 or [email protected]

“Keeping the spirit of the Gospel means that Catholic institutions are to bear witness in love to the full truth about the human person by providing social, charitable, and educational services in a manner that fully reflects the God-given dignity of the human person.”

– Archbishop William E. Lori, Chairman, Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty,

on the “Freedom to Bear Witness”...

The Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom to Bear Witness will take place from June 21 to July 4, 2015, a time when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power – St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme of this year’s Fortnight will focus on the “freedom to bear witness” to the truth of the Gospel.

Take Action! Text the word FREEDOM to 377377 for updates.

We have 21 seminarians – truly a blessing – and we pray the number will continue to increase. With this blessing comes the need for support so we can continue providing for their educational needs. The diocesan-wide Special Collection for Seminarians will be next weekend. Gifts to the collection support the education and formation costs associated with seminarians, which continually rise. Your gift to this important appeal makes the difference for our faith leaders of tomorrow by providing necessary educational funding. Please experience the joy of giving and join us as we work together to continue God’s work.

Question of the Week? Faced with the Church’s or my own slow growth and constant need for renewal, what can

I do practically this week to take Paul’s advice and “be courageous”?

NEW

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

TO MEET IN ORANGE BEACH AT SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER

Foley, Alabama – A new, community-based Grief Support Group has started meeting in Orange Beach. The Orange Beach Grief Support Group is open to the public and will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Orange Beach Senior Activity Center located at 26251 Canal Road in Orange Beach.

Led by Cindy Still, M.R.E, and Dottie Dawson, LBSW, of Community Hospice, the Orange Beach Grief Support Group is open to anyone having a difficult time coping with the loss of a loved one. “We organized this group to help citizens of our area cope with the practical and emotional challenges we face when we lose a mother, father, daughter, son, spouse or other loved one. For some it is a sister or a brother, a close family member. For others, they may have lost a best friend and just need a friendly ear to listen,” stated Cindy Still, Chaplain with Community Hospice.

The Orange Beach Grief Support Group is confidential and the group members create the “topics” of each meeting, discussing current issues, fears, personal successes and areas of help. These meetings are open to the public; you do not need to be affiliated with Community Hospice or the City of Orange Beach to attend.

For more information, please contact Cindy Still or Dottie Dawson at 251-943-5015, or Carolyn Vines, Senior Programs Coordinator with the City of Orange Beach, at 251-981-3440.

Labels and Box Tops for Education for St. Benedict School and Cancelled Stamps for Visitation Monastery are still being collected. Please place your labels or stamps in the containers in the cry room.
