MASS TO PRAY FOR HEALING FROM ABUSE With the encouragement of our Parish Pastoral Councils we have scheduled a Mass to Pray for Healing from Abuse.

It will be offered at St. Andrew’s Church, 6:30pm on Monday, 29 October. Father Joe Morgan, Rector of St. Mary's Cathedral and Vicar General of the Diocese will be the Mass celebrant. The entire Church is deeply concerned today about the instances of abuse perpetrated by some priests. Prayer will be directed at this Mass for all who suffered abuse in any form from any person.

In view of the need of the Church for conversion, forgiveness, and healing, all our parishioners are invited and encouraged to join us for this opportunity for prayer.

Snack Pack With school back in session, the Snack Pack Program is gearing up for another year. Each week, the Snack Pack Program provides over 150 children with healthy weekend snacks throughout the school year. ST MARY'S OF BRUSHTON HARVEST DINNER The annual Harvest Turkey Dinner will be held at

the North Bangor Fire Department, 2265 State

Route 11, North Bangor, N.Y. 12966. The dinner will be held on October 7th from 12:00 noon to 4:00. The dinner is open to the public and includes roast turkey, mashed potatoes, squash, stuffing, cabbage salad, cranberry sauce, rolls and dessert. VOCATION COMMITTEE MISSION STATEMENT

In response to a request of all parishes from Bishop LaValley we have a Vocation Committee serving from both our parishes. Members include Carol Gonthier, Dcn. John Levison, Ann Miller, Joanne Molnar, Linda Regan, Francis Sharlow, Kathy Wolfe, and Msgr. Murphy. The committee recently fashioned a Mission Statement to orient its work. The text follows:

We the Vocation Committee of St. Andrew’s Church and the Parish of the Visitation and St. Raymond seek to create awareness that all vocations including priesthood, diaconate, religious life, Christian marriage, and single life are callings from God needing support within the Catholic community. We intend to guide and encourage our parish communities in prayer for vocations, foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and support and encourage promising candidates. This will be done in keeping with the Diocesan Pastoral Priorities, creating a culture of vocations, applying our efforts through family faith formation, and striving to build parishes with living stones.

FAITH FORMATION WALKING THE ROSARY PATH

Sunday September 30th, the children of our combined Faith Formation program will join members of our parish communities in walking the Rosary Path while reciting the rosary together. We will gather at the statue of Mary on the lower yard by the Church of the Visitation at 9:55 and begin at 10:00am in order to be at the 10:30am Mass. Please, one and all come and join us! There will be chairs for those that cannot join us for the walk. If weather is unfavorable we will gather in church instead to recite the Rosary.

DIOCESAN BLUE MASS This year Bishop Terry R. LaValley will celebrate the Diocesan Blue Mass on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm at St. Peter's Church, 114 Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh, NY. The Blue Mass the Church’s way to offer thanks to God for the dedication and sacrifices made by the women and men in Law Enforcement/Corrections and to pray for their safety, as well as for their families and communities. COMMUNITY LUNCH PROGRAM FOR KIDS The Community Lunch Program for Kids was able to distribute over 8,350 meals to children in the Norwood, Norfolk and Raymondville area this summer through their six distributions. Children in the CLPK program benefit from the free/ reduced breakfast/ Lunch Program throughout the school year, but are left without this support when school is not in session. CLPK provided boxes of nutritious breakfast and lunch foods to over 60 families with over 160 children. This program would not be possible without the support of our local businesses, civic groups and churches. Thank you so much for all YOU did to support this program!

SHARE YOUR TALENTS WITH TRINITY STUDENTS

Trinity is very excited to introduce an enrichment program this year, and they are looking for YOUR help. They need adults who wish to share their talents with students from 3-6 grades. Some student suggestions are woodworking, jewelry-making, gardening, cooking/baking, art (focusing on special techniques, such as pottery, charcoal drawing, pastels, etc.), photography, creative writing, scrapbooking, knitting/crocheting, sewing, technology (such as coding), and chess. You may even have your own ideas to suggest. This program will consist of three 6-week sessions running in the fall, winter and spring, one day per week after school from approximately 3:15—4:45. All volunteers who come in contact with TCS students must undergo a simple background check and receive training through the diocesan-wide Virtus program, which will be offered at Trinity at the end of September.

PARISH LINKAGE We have received information from the Diocesan Office of Planning regarding the eventual linking of the parishes of Norwood, Norfolk, and Brasher Falls. According to the communication, when a need arises, due to illness or retirement of a pastor, our parishes are the next to be linked. The Steering Committee, which formulated the pastoral plan for the linking of our parishes, met this past week to review the plan and to make preparations for the next steps. We will keep our parishioners and Pastoral Councils apprised of our progress.

There will be a keynote address by Bishop LaValley after Mass on the role of parents as the first teachers of faith for their children and how they can assist in the preparation for the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation

Bishop LaValley will also share with the students how Confirmation is not a graduation. It’s a new beginning and a call to continue even more passionately their journey of faith.

Those who are taking part in the confirmation program with PVSR and SA are expected to attend as it will be in place of one of the three parent sessions. Catechetical Leaders, catechists, and Pastors are encouraged to attend. Please contact the office 315-384-4242 or a Faith Formation director to register. Registration must be completed by Friday, October 12, 2018.

PRAYER FOR CATECHISTS God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to families of our parishes. We lift them up to you in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs. May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges, is compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those that have responded to the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to service that Christ addresses to all his disciples, contributing our gifts to the communion of faith, the Church. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen

FUN FACTS FOR CATHOLIC KIDS

September 30 – Happy feast day to Saint Jerome – a man who spent his life trying to know God better. How could YOU get to know God better? Well, how do you get to know a friend better? You go to his or her house and visit, you talk about what you think about things, you try to find out things about each other, you listen to each other. You can do this with God too. You can go to his house – the church – and visit. You can talk to him by praying. You can try to find out about him by reading the Bible or religious books. And you can sit quietly and LISTEN and think. Do that today; sit and listen and give God a chance to talk to you. Maybe you won’t hear from him today – but if you don’t today, maybe you will tomorrow or the next day or the next day!
