A Friend in Need. In times of trouble, we look to caring
Christian friends to listen to us while we work through our feelings. A Stephen Minister can be such a friend, either to you or to someone you know. This weekend at the 10:00 Mass, our seven trainees will be commissioned as Stephen Ministers who are trained to care for people dealing with life’s issues. These Caregivers are committed to providing Christian Care for others experiencing many different needs. Thanks to everyone who donated money to the free will offering during the church luncheon for my Girl Scout Gold Award project of a Community Orchard. These donations will help purchase materials and plants for my orchard. -- Taylor Paul
EASTER FLOWERS help make the church a sign of Christ’s resurrection. Parishioners are invited to contribute $10.00 toward the cost of a potted plant in honor of their family or a deceased loved one. The offering can be dropped off at the parish office or in a marked envelope in the Sunday collection. Plants will be placed in the church entrance after they’ve finished blooming and can then be taken home.
INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK
Temptation is a part of our lives. Even Jesus wrestled with
temptation. Our faith tells us that we are meant to live our
lives in service of God's kingdom. Yet, we often find
ourselves pursuing our own desires rather than God's. The
Gospel clearly tells us that true power is found in the
embrace of virtue - living lives of non-violence, mercy, and
forgiveness. Yet, we still are not convinced and seek things
that will hurt us and retaliate against those who harm us.
When Jesus faced temptation, he found security in who he
was, which firmly rooted him in his mission and gave him
the determination to trust in God. We, too, must learn to find
security in our identity as a son or daughter of God, to live
out our mission rooted in that truth, and to be confident in
God's abiding presence.

Religious Education: During Lent we will again be having our “EXTRA” activities for students Grades 1-12.
Every Tuesday during Lent students are invited to come to church after school and participate in snacks and then adoration. We will meet in a classroom for snacks and then go to adoration from 3:30-4:00 p.m. Parents are asked to pick up students at 4:00.
Friday mornings beginning at 7:30 a.m. Students are invited to join us for Prayer and Pancakes. We will meet in church and share a brief reflection on the gospel and then go the hall for breakfast before heading out to school. Our best days are those that begin with the Lord.
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. – Psalm 143:8

Have you ever had a tug at your heart that you should be doing more for others? God tells us in Matthew 25:31-46:
Truly I tell you, just as you did to one of the least of these who are members of my
family, you did to Me. Holy Redeemer will be making some changes to our outreach program. All parishioners, from young on up, will have opportunities to serve others and serve God. We will be working on some new ministries and are still looking for more volunteers for the “Sharing Talents” and the “Give a Ride” ministries. Some parishioners have already signed up for these ministries, and we Thank them, but we are still in need of more volunteers. We will be having a meeting to discuss how to expand our Outreach Program. If you have even the tiniest tug to serve God and others, join us on Tuesday, March 12, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss ways to make our current outreach opportunities better and create more opportunities.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
As we enter into this Lenten season of penance and self-denial, we're reminded that the God we follow is no stranger to these things. In this Sunday's Gospel, we see the temptations of Jesus which have parallels throughout Scripture and in our own lives. The apostle John warns against temptations to sensual lust, enticement of the eyes, and a pretentious life (cf. 1 John 2:16). Before Eve plucks the fruit from the tree, she hears it is good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom (cf. Genesis 3:6). The temptations of Jesus are our own. "Turn these stones to bread." Here is the lure of bodily comfort, like good food or sensual lust. It's the simplest of temptations because it's instinctual. We want good for our bodies! But there may be times these bodily goods don't serve the higher good for our souls. The leap "from the temple parapet" would entice the eye of the person watching. A feat like this would prove Jesus' Messianic ability. His popularity could be a shortcut to the cross. We might not be daredevils, but we want people to like us and be impressed by us. Do we sacrifice our values along the way? To "bow and worship" the devil - and so claim power and a pretentious life - seems like a dramatic
temptation. Not everyone may feel enticed by power in the professional sense, but all of us want control. A volunteer team can feel just as intense as the boardroom! How often do we prefer to be in control of our lives (and perhaps even the lives of others), rather than allow God to be God? When we consider areas of temptation and sin, it's not to feel ashamed. The temptation in the desert reminds us that we are not alone and that the strength of Jesus can be our strength, too.

FIRST READING – Deuteronomy 26:4-10:
'Therefore, I have now brought you the firstfruits of the products of the soil which you, O LORD, have given me.'" (Dt 26:10a)
Throughout the Book of Deuteronomy, and in today's reading, Moses reminds the Israelites of
how God was present throughout their history. Moses instructed Israel to make a sacrificial
offering to the Lord God in thanksgiving. As we begin the season of Lent, how will you show
gratitude to the Lord?
SECOND READING – Romans 10:8-13:
For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Rom 10:13) Paul teaches the Roman Christians that everyone (Jew and Gentile alike) who believes in Christ with their heart and mind will
be saved. Why do you think anyone would object to this teaching?
GOSPEL – Luke 4:1-13:
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, to be tempted
by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over, he was hungry. (Lk 4:1-2)
Jesus began his public ministry defeating the temptations of the devil. How do you think the devil tempts you?

The Academics, the Artist, and the Architect: Retrieving the Catholic Tradition: Wednesday, April 10, 2019, 7:30 p.m. at The Athenaeum of Ohio. In the nineteenth century, the Catholic Church rose like a phoenix from the aftermath of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. Three complementary, but contrasting revivals: the theological, artistic, and architectural helped reinvigorated Catholicism. The dynamism of these movements continues to inspire and can help serve to reinvigorate our own age. Presenter: Father Joseph Carola, S.J., Professor of Patristic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. The lecture will be held at the Bartlett Pastoral Center, The Athenaeum of Ohio/Mount St. Mary's Seminary, 6616 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati, OH. All are welcome and admission is free. St. Teresa Church, Covington, will be having their annual LENTEN FISH FRIES 4-7 p.m. on March 15, March 29, April 12, and April 26. The meal also includes our special green bean recipe, applesauce, and a roll. It will be the same great fish and will benefit the Knights of Columbus and their charitable giving. The cost is $8.00. Question: At times, temptation seems so powerful that it is almost impossible to resist.
How can I be stronger in my resolve to avoid sin and temptation?
Answer: The saints have written that every human person desires the good. In a sense, we don't desire sin itself. Temptation is
powerful because there is at least some bit of good in it. Even in the blackest of sin, there is something good that becomes
twisted. We can look for good in sin when we feel it is lacking in our own life. When we lack true relational intimacy, it can be
easy to turn to lust. When we lack confidence in God in our own lives, it can be easy to judge others or to grasp for control over
situations. When we lack peace in the present moment, it can be easy to compete with others or to treat others poorly in our
quest for success.
Overcoming temptation isn't just about repressing our sinful desires. If that's all we do, they'll just burst out someplace else! If
there is a recurring temptation in your life, prayerfully consider why this is so appealing to you. Submit this to God and bring
it to a wise person. And in the meantime, continue to resist temptation to sin. If we fail to choose God in small choices, we're
several steps down the road towards failing in larger ones. Pray for the grace to persevere!
