FOR THE RIDE HOME First Reading: Wisdom 18: 6-9 Second Reading: Hebrews 11: 1-2 Gospel: Luke 12: 32-48
One way Christians can prove that they are a people of faith is to live every day as though they expect Jesus to return. Today's gospel urges us to be awake and on the watch like servants awaiting the master's return home. We should be "on guard" against anyone or anything that leads us astray from Christ. Since no one knows when the final judgment will happen, the wise person will always be prepared for it. If you read this Gospel again carefully, you will discover that Jesus is comparing himself to a thief! Just as we would "watch out" for a thief, so we must "watch out" for the coming of the Lord. One saint said of Jesus, "He steals our hearts!" However, we must be clear: Jesus always respects our freedom. We can say yes or no when he comes. The question is: When Jesus comes, will you want to keep your door closed, or open it up wide? Are you going to wait until the end of time to welcome Jesus, or can you begin today? How?

“Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope” - Pope Francis
**One Faith, Family and Community is the theme around which we are sharing the inspiring story of the Catholic Ministries Appeal. **As One Faith Family, we are called as a community to show mercy to others as Pope Francis has asked us to do in this extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. **Supporting the Catholic Ministries Appeal gives each of us a remarkable opportunity to “show mercy to others” and touch the lives of so many who are in our family of faith and in our community—a neighbor in need of food or shelter, a young man or woman finding their way to God through our youth or campus ministry programs, or a deacon or seminarian studying to serve in our Diocese.
Did you know because of the Catholic Ministries Appeal last
year…. We delivered or served more than 550,000 meals to senior
citizens and young families. Parish outreach centers, including our food pantries, assisted
more than 100,000 families. Our Office of Hospital Ministry served more than 300,000
people in local hospitals. 12,000 volunteer Catechists taught Religious Education to
more than 110,000 of our children in public schools. In our 133 Parishes there were more than 17,000 Baptisms,
17,000 First Communions, 19,000 Confirmations and 3,000
Weddings. We provided safe and affordable housing for struggling
seniors through 15 housing facilities with more than 1,200
affordable apartments. Our parish received a cash rebate of more than $10,000
which helped to offset expenses needed to maintain our
building and to fund the many programs we offer. Please consider making a pledge to this most worthy charity.
We need the help of every parish family to reach our goal of
$50,800. You have until January 31, 2017 to pay off your pledge.
No down payment is necessary. The Diocese will send monthly
reminders. Keep in mind this is not a legal document. If you feel
you cannot keep up your payments, simply discontinue them.
To help you decide here are some suggested gift plans: **$120 pledge—$20 per month, ** $60 pledge—$10 per month
**One time payment = any amount
Whatever you are able to give, large or small, will be accepted
gratefully. Please keep in mind your gift is payable over ten
months.
To make a pledge, simply fill out the form below and place it in
the collection basket or mail it back to the parish office.

FISHING TRIP Friday, August 28, 2016 5 pm-9pm
Date: Sunday, August 28, 2016 Time: 4:00 p.m. —8:00 p.m Cost:: $25 per person The Family Activities Committee is excited to invite everyone to St. Elizabeth’s Ann Seton’s Fishing Trjp.
We will be going on a fishing boat out of Captree State Park. So come aboard The Yankee III and enjoy a beautiful summer night and watch the sunset on the bay as you fish with fellow parishioners and their families. The price in-cludes four hours of unlimited fishing—no need to bring your own rods or bait, the crew will take care of that. The crew on The Yankee III is exception-ally patient with children and first timers in assisting them with their rods and giving them fishing tips. Feel free to bring your own dinner onboard. Snacks and water will be provided. This is a family event which means alcohol will not be permitted on the boat. Members from the Family Activities Committee will be selling tickets in the lobby after all masses
starting Saturday , August 6 through Sunday August 21st. When purchasing tickets please try
to have exact amount or please pay by check. Unfortunately, we were only able to get one
boat this year. So, tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis, limited to 60 tickets.
Please bring a non-perishable food donation for the STEAS’s Food Pantry.
Squeeze in that last little bit of summer fun!

Prayer Blanket Ministry Meetings are held on Saturdays from 9:30am to
12:30pm. Next meeting is August 13th &
27th. New members are always welcome. Come
join this exciting ministry—we create prayer blankets, lap robes, baby blankets, preemie hats,
Christmas stockings, “pink scarves”, etc. and donate them to various organizations, nursing homes, etc. We also share ideas, patterns and offer instruction for anyone wishing to learn to knit or crochet or brush up on their skills. For more information call the Parish Outreach. If you have yarn to donate,
we will gladly accept it and use it. Thank you!
Join Us With Mary When life got overwhelming and too big for us as children, we turned to our mother for support and guidance. As adults, we thank her for all she had done for us. Now we are blessed with the opportuni-ty to turn to our Heavenly Mother Mary to ask for her support and guidance, and thank her for the many blessings she has given us. Every Wednesday after 9:00 AM mass (at 9:30), you are invited to join us as we pray the rosary to ask for her help and guidance and to thank her for her abounding love.
