Notes:

The data represents everyone who resides within the area represented by the school district’s geographical boundary and is not connected to school attendance.

Population by school district boundary will rarely add up to a county's total population. This is due to the fact that schools district boundaries may cross county lines thereby including a portion of a neighboring county's residential population.

Mason County was officially formed in 1854. The City of Shelton was formed in 1890. There are 961.1 square miles of land in Mason County. In 2010, the population density of Mason County was 63.1 residents per square mile. (D1)

Between 2000 and 2010, the population of Washington State increased by 14%. (D5)

With a growth rate of 23%, Mason County was the 4th fastest growing county in the state during 2000-2010. There are 39 counties in the state. (D5) Between 2000-2010, the total population of Mason County increased by 11,264 residents. The majority of this increase was due to net migration (in-migrants to the county minus out-migrants). The remaining was due to natural increase (births minus deaths). (D5)

The population in all seven school district boundary areas increased between 2000-2010. However, the growth rates decreased compared to the 1990-2000 time period. (D4)

Census years, 2000 and 2010,

are the only years in which a complete count of the entire population is attempted. Population data for all other years are estimates. The most complete, current data is an average from 2005 through 2009.

is released.
