• The man is thought to be the dominant of the two in a relationship

• Fearless, Heroic, and Resolute• Decisive with moral obligations

and a duty to himself and his family

FEMININITY

• The recessive of the two in the relationship

• Fragile, submissive, and inferior• Basic caretaker and nurturer for

the family

LADY MACBETH

• Lady Macbeth acts as the mastermind in the relationship and takes the more dominant role in the relationship between her and Macbeth

MACBETH

• Macbeth takes the submissive role and is addressed as being lighthearted

• He is unable to handle the stress of the murder he and Lady Macbeth committed

• Towards the end of the play Macbeth becomes more dominant, because of his grief and his new position as the tyrant king

• Commanding E.G. to the servant

MACDUFF

• Macduff runs away, thinking it is wise for his family

• Becomes more dominant character towards end of play

• When told of the murder of his family he is enraged and wants revenge

• “Let’s make us med’cines of our great revenge to cure this deadly grief” (Act4 sc3)

LADY MACDUFF

• Lady Macduff takes on the more feminine role in her relationship with Macduff

• But is offended by the cowardice of her husband

• Claims to her son that her husband is dead• “Wisdom? To leave his wife, to leave his

babes • His mansions and his titles in a place” act

4 scene 2
