Letter from the editor –
I am sorry that this newsletter is late but I have had to prioritise some family matters. I have been looking forward to 2020. It sounds so good, “2020”, auspicious, … and so I hope it turns out to be memorable for all the right reasons, despite getting off to a bad start with fires down south, drought everywhere, and expensive horse feed. I am still optimistic of a good year to come. On Tuesday 21st January, the Annual General Meeting will be held at the Federal Hotel. Nibbles will be served from 6.00pm with the meeting commencing at 7.00pm. Annual reports will be presented by the 2019 President, Treasurer, Dressage Co-ordinator, and Show Co-ordinator before all members of the 2019 committee step down. Then nominations will be taken for the election of all positions on the 2020 committee. New committee members are always made welcome and supported in their roles, so if you, or a friend, are interested in helping on the committee, please attend and indicate your interest. All current members are invited and welcome to attend the meeting, whether or not they are interested in joining the committee. I will be happy for someone else will take over as newsletter editor! Please! Thank you to Letitia Schwarzrock and her family for hosting the MARC Christmas Party and Awards night. It was a very enjoyable and fun night.

Christmas Party and End of Year Awards Thank you to the Schwarzrock family for hosting the evening at their home in Burrum. Nearly everyone joined in the fun of the Mad Hatters theme, adding to the amusement. There were some very creative efforts, others were just funny.

End of Year Awards
SHOW This year the points won on the Saturday of the Fraser Coast All Breeds Show, (the breed specific day), were kept separate from other points won throughout the year, and given specific Fraser Coast All Breeds Led and Ridden Awards. Also, due to the popularity of Challenge / Working horse classes, an additional award was made for points won in Versatility classes.

Special MARC awards The Patron’s Award and the Club Member of the Year Award are presented to members, who may not have competitive success, but who contribute very significantly to the club.
Patron’s Award Virginia Wyatt donated a voucher, which was awarded to Daniel Andrews. Dan does not ride at all, (I think he has been on a horse once), but he does an enormous amount of work in the background, including setting up and putting away arenas, scoring, and much more, even assisting with the judges’ and VIP guests’ catering at the Fraser Coast Dressage Championships.
MARC Club Member of the Year Each year the committee has a secret vote to select the Club Member of the Year. This is awarded to a member, who may not be successful in competition, but who has made a very substantial contribution to the club. This year’s winner, Roslyn Barker, has had considerable success in Novice level dressage, but for many years she has been the Dressage Co-ordinator’s “Right Hand Man”, and assisted in numerous other ways to all facets of the club’s activities.

Dressage Queensland Awards In 2017 and 2018, some MARC committee members attended the annual Dressage Queensland Awards night (winning Best Club of 2017!), but in 2019 we were unable to attend. However there were awards for two MARC committee members and these awards were also presented at the MARC Christmas Party. Marilyn Costigan was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for 30 years as an Official Dressage Judge. We were extremely pleased that this could be presented to Marilyn as, unfortunately for us, Marilyn is leaving the Maryborough district, to reside closer to her family in Brisbane. We wish her good health, good friends, and lots of laughs, for many years ahead. She will be sorely missed but we hope to see her at Dressage (and other events) closer to Brisbane. Roslyn Barker and Injustice won the EQ Participant Novice Leaderboard and were presented with an embroidered Champion rug and other prizes.

MARC member Nancy Reinke won the EQ Participant Leaderboard Preliminary Dressage with Rubanlee and was 2nd in the EQ Participant Leaderboard Novice Dressage with Dustee. She collected her awards on the night in Brisbane.

MARC is not responsible for the fees at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park (MSEP). These are set by the Fraser Coast Regional Council. To book and/ pay for stables/yards, cleaning bonds, facility fees and camping. www.nominate.com.au/stables/msep.asp Payment by credit/debit card.
Fees until 30 June 2020: • Camping Fees: $20.90 per site per night (maximum 2 nights unless staying for an event at MSEP) • Equestrian Facility Fees: $7.80 per horse per day when riding anywhere on the grounds OR $100.00 “Season Pass” per person for 12 months from the date of payment, and $50.00 per person for any additional family members. • Stable/Yard Fees: $7.80 per stable/yard from 6am to 6am or part thereof $23.00 per stable/yard cleaning bond payable in advance (refunded if stable is left clean) $11.30 per stable/yard cleaning fee payable in advance (optional – no cleaning bond required) Stables/yards are locked and 48 hours notice is required when making a booking.
