Before the FAYZ I was an ordinary girl just as every other and I was happy with my life. Now everything changed; I see people die in front of me day by day. Teenagers kill each other and there are no adults to stop them. My job is to take care of the little ones which only sounds easy. Everyone has to be abstemious because there is almost no more food left. My life has never been so twisted or depressing as it is right now.

About Mary Hi, my name is Mary Terrafino. I am a fourteen year old girl in charge of the Day Care Center in Perdido Beach because everyone from the ages 15 and up have mysteriously disappeared. I took control of the day care the first day in which the FAYZ started (the day when the adults disappeared) because no one else was helping the terrified little children that yelled the name of their parents in desperation. I knew that if I didn’t do anything about the day care nobody would and these lonely kids would die in a heartbeat. Now everyone calls me Mother Mary because I have become the mother of all the little kids that are now orphans. It is very tiring to work at the day care because I do it on my own. I am depressed most of the time and I suffer from bulimia. I just want the FAYZ to end now, before we all end up dying. The teenagers kill for food. (R.1)

Being perfect.

The only reason I wake up every morning is to keep fighting for the children's lives that rest on my hands. Each child and teenager agrees that this is my responsibility at the FAYZ. (R.3)

My life before the FAYZ was absolutely perfect. I had everything I wanted, but now all those things are gone, buried, and dead. I look back to what I used to be and the memories sting my heart with ideas of what my life could have been, what should have been if the FAYZ had never happened.

This picture was taken during the FAYZ and it’s the only one that I'm posting of myself during this time on Facebook. I posted this picture to show Astrid how much I appreciate her giving me all her make- up set, for I have lost mine. Now I feel much more confident about myself and my depression has alleviated.

I don’t even recognize myself right now. The perfection I fought for such a long time has vanished along with my dreams. I wont post pictures of myself during the FAYZ because its not the way I want people to see me. I want them to recognize me as the perfect girl that lived before the FAYZ.

We are living amongst piles of trash, destroyed buildings, and destroyed lives. Drake Merwin tried to eat my children in front of me and then kill me. If it wasn’t for Sam he would have succeeded. From now on I'm carrying a weapon with me. If I kill someone, I haven't just destroyed a life, but my innocence as well.

My little angels. I love children and I am a very affable person, that's mainly the reasons why I abet the children at the Day Care Center at Perdido Beach. I couldn't bare the thought that without me they would die, so I knew I had to do something about it. They are a lot of work, but its worth it. They are my only company. The ardor that I feel for them is indescribable.
