Mary, Queen of Scots(1) Henry VIII’s father was Edward/ Henry VII/ James V.

(2) Henry VIII had two/ three/ four children.

(3) Elizabeth was Edward’s mother/ daughter/ sister.

(4) How many children did Elizabeth have?

Mary was Elizabeth’s heir. This meant she should become Queen of England when Elizabeth died.

But Mary was a Catholic.

Some Catholics even thought theyshould kill Elizabeth to make sure that Mary became queen of Englandat once.

Many Catholics thoughtMary should be queen now and not wait until Elizabeth was dead.

Many English people did not want a catholic queen.

when she came to England in 1568.• Walsingham became ‘spymaster’ for Elizabeth.

He read notes passed to/from Mary (smuggled in beer barrels) so he could stop plots.

• The Babington plot 1586 was a plan to kill Elizabeth and make Mary Queen. Walsingham saw the letters and stopped it.

• Mary was found guilty. Elizabeth did not sign the death-warrant until 1587.

• Mary was executed at Fotheringhay castle.
