Once there was a little girl named Mary. She lived on a farm with her mother and father, her grandmother, 3 older brothers and 2 older sisters. Everyone took care of Mary because she was the baby. Mary took care of the babyanimals. Her fathergathered thefamily every-day to read to them from the Bible and to say prayers.Her father’sprayers werevery long!

did not do it. The man kept running away from home and being bad. She stopped being married to him. One day she was walking on a sidewalk. It was covered with ice. She fell and hurt herself. The doctor said that she would not live. She was reading her Bible. She read about Jesus’ healings. She saw that Jesus healed because he knew that God is all good. We are His image and likeness. There is nothing “bad” in “all good.” She was healed!

For the next 3 years she studied her Bible all the time. She wanted to under-stand how she had been healed. In the Bible she found God’s laws for heal-ing. She used them to heal others. She showed others that they could heal too! After doing this for 9 years, she wrote about it in a book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. 5

Mary did not go to school very often. She was sick a lot of the time and it was a long walk to school. She loved to read. She read the Bible. She wrote poems. Her brother, Albert, helped her to learn at home.

Whenshe grew up she gotmarried atChristmastime and moved faraway fromhome. Her husbanddied thatsummer soshe moved back homeand had her baby. She still was not well much of the time and it was hard for her to take care of her baby boy, George. When her mother died too, there was no one to help her. Mary’s father made her send little George away. Mary was very sad. She married again. This man said he would help her get George back. He 3
