1. Shakya Janapada, Silver 5 Shana, Main Symbol Crescent, Scyphate Laminat-ed, Obv: several punch marked symbols with central pentagonal symbol, Rev: uni-face, 6.69g, 16.62 x 26.60mm, about very fine, Extremely Rare.

Shakyamala Janapada had the capital in Kapilavastu, which was the birth place of Lord Gautam Buddha who lived there for about 28 years in Kapilavastu. And it was ruled by Lord Gautam Buddha’s father King Suddhodana.

2. Kashi Janapada, (600-465 BC), (Mahakosala & his son of Prasenajita from the Sun Dynasty?), Silver Vimshatika, Large Flan, Scyphate Coinage, Obv: variet-ies of sun symbols in different styles, with tree & chakra with spoke, geometric sym-bols, Rev: three different sun symbols otherwise uniface, 4.48g, 29.76mm, about very fine, Extremely Rare.

It is noted that these coins were from the Sun Dynasty Or Surya Vansh of Kashi Jana-pada whose capital was varanasi & Saraswati, Probably the series of series number 55, page 133 type of 705 Pl. X of Rajgor. Overall beautiful specimen.

Gandhara Janapada, Silver Bentbar (Shatamana), (Shataka Type ?), Obv: six petalled flower at each end of the bar, smaller punches in between, Rev:uni-face, 11.15g, 8.30x41.48mm, (Rajgors # Series 34, Type 540, Pl. 6, Pg. 101), about very fine, Extremely Rare. These Shatamanas were probably issued under the reign of Puk-kusati who was the contemporary King under Buddha from the Gandhara-Kashmir reign and after hearing from the friend King Bimbisara about Buddha he immediately adopted the Dharma and path of Buddha and travelled to Savathi to see Buddha. The capital was believed to be Taxila under the reign.Estimate : ` 15000-18000

12. Vidarbha Janapada (600 BC), Silver 1/2 Karshapana, ABCC Type, Obv: el-ephant, turtle and twice geomatric symbol, Rev: traces of original sym-bol, 1.55g, 19.38mm, about very fine, Rare.Estimate : ` 5000-6000

Vidarbha Janapada, Silver 1/2 Karshapana, ABCC type, Obv: four sym-bols including elephant, fish in dotted border and twice five pointed star be-side circle, Rev: four symbols including elephant, fish and twice four petal flow-er beside crescent symbols, 1.41g, 16.73mm, about very fine, Extremely Rare. May be different punches strucked on this coin and such coins shows the original sym-bols of the first strike on reverse.Estimate : ` 4000-5000

14. Vanga Janapada, Copper Karshapana, Obv: three symbols on the obverse include, a wheel, a six-armed symbol and a boat representing riverine trade in bengal, Rev: conch shell (shank) single punch, 3.83g, 14.66x14.40mm, about very fine, Rare.Estimate : ` 2500-3000

Kosala Janapada, (500 BC), Silver Karshapana, Maghada Issue, Obv: sun, ele-phant facing left, bull facing left, trishkele & other geomatric symbols, Rev: geomatric symbols, 3.2g, 20.03mm, about very fine, Extremely Rare. Coins of this series were restruck after annexing Kosala Janapada into Maghada Empire.Estimate : ` 4000-5000

16. Kosala Janapada (Prasenajita ?), Silver Karshapana, Obv: sun, wheel, trish-kele & other symbols, double obverse, Rev: geometric symbols, 2.80g, 23.37mm, about very fine, Extremely Rare. The coin was originally of Mahakosala which was later restruck by Prasenajita.Estimate : ` 10000-12000

Shaka (320-350 AD), Gold Dinar (Pure Gold), Broad Flan, Obv: crowned, dia-demed king standing facing left, holding a trident banner, brahmi legendto right ‘kap-ana’, & ‘kidara’ under arm, kushana & ru at left, Rev: goddess of plenty ardokhsho enthroned facing, holding diadem and cornucopia,7.28g, 24.27mm, about extremely fine, Very Rare.The coins of this series usually comes in less purity of gold but this specimen is having full purity of gold & also struck very beautifully and the figures of king & goddess are comparatively broader than normal.Estimate : ` 50,000-60,000

Samudragupta (335-370 AD), Gold Dinar, King and Queen Type (Licchavyah), is-sued in the memory of his parents Chandragupta I and Kumaradevi, Obv: king standing at right and queen at left, facing each other, king holding up his right hand offering flower to the queen and legends at left “sri kumaradevi” and “chandra” in the right field, Rev: goddess durga seated on “recumbent lion left”, holding cornucopia and pa-sha and legend “Lichhavyah” to commemorate the marriage alliance of Chandragupta I and Lichhavi tribe, tamgha at left, 7.20g, 21.59mm, (BMC # Pl.III-1; Altekar Pl. I-12), about very fine, Extremely Rare.Similar to the coin in the Indian Museum, The above coin shows the seated lion facing left, this is the interesting variety which is very rare in comparison to the seated lion facing right that are usually found and are sold for around 2.5L in the auctions.Estimate : ` 2,50,000-3,50,000

Maheshwari & Wiggins in their book mentions about this historically important coin of Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that these were probably struck at Rajgad on the occasion of Shivaji’s Coronation which lasted from 30th May – 6th June 1674.

This is an undated rupee with nagari legends, though many of the letters fall off the flan but a reasonable construction may be made from what can be seen. The reverse reads as Raja/ Shivachha/ trapati and it is possible that Shri precedes this, and the obverse is certainly as Shri Ja/gadamba(be) prasanna.

The obverse reading of the coin which is Jagadamba Prassana has an important meaning which states “illustrious jagadambe/happy jagadamba”. It is believed that Jagadamba (Jagat Amba) is the mother of the world and one of the avatars of the goddess Bhavani who is also the family deity (Kul-Devi) of Shivaji and also one of the chief deities of the Marathas. Many instances were recorded by Grant Duff where Shivaji claimed to have been inspired on the important occasions by Goddess Bhavani. Shivaji had also built a shrine in paying the respect to her at Pratapgarh and even named his sword after her. It is also reported that the necklace made out of these coins is worn by the Goddess Tulja Bhavani, the deity of Tuljapur located in the Osmanabad district of Maharashtra.
