Statement• Commence Astronaut Training• Communicate with outside teams using

Stage 2 - Planning• Select an element of life support:
– Energy Supply– Temperature Control– Waste Management– Water Supply
• Design a system that will work to support life on Mars
• Create a prototype of your system
Stage 3 - Link up• Present your designs to professionals• Launch from Maples Collegiate• Meet up with other teams• Build a habitat on Mars
Astronaut Training• Takes place during ALL phases• To meet the physical needs required for
space travel– Endurance– Flexibility– Strength
• To ensure proper nutrition andhealth for the mission
Mission Roles
Project Manager• Leads the group through the tasks• Makes sure everyone understands their
job• Makes sure everyone is doing their part• The ONLY person who is allowed to talk to
the Mission Control Coordinator
Project Scientist• Responsible for the science component of
the mission• Monitors science activities• Reports findings on a regular basis• Makes sure that expert advice has been
obtained to assist in the research• Makes sure all science facts used
are correct
Project Engineer• Responsible for the technological
component of the mission• Monitors all technology activities• Reports findings on a regular basis• Makes sure that expert advice has been
obtained to assist in the design and construction
• Ensures solid construction of the life support system
Research Analyst• Reads instructions and printed materials• Looks up any additional information
needed by the team• Records team observations and answers• Makes sure that science and technology
activities are completed• Ensures that all facts and
information is correct
Materials Specialist• Organises the gathering of all materials
required for activities• Ensures all materials and folders are
properly stored when not in use• Ensures that the system design uses
materials appropriate for Mars• Ensures the correct materials
are used in all activities
Communications Specialist
• Responsible for all aspects of communication, such as:– Conference areas– Fax – E-mail– Telephone – Regular mail
• Composes and sends questions to the mentors and other support personnel
• Ensures all messages and responses are posted on the Team Blog
Public Affairs Officer• Responsible for publicising Canadian
National Marsville in the school and local community
• Invites community members to the class– Ex) Speakers, reporters, engineers, tem
mentors• Writes press releases for local
media, radio stations, andThe Marsville Times (our paper)
