THE SURFACES COMPANY 1
What istechnological marble?
Technological marble isan advanced composite
product containingbetween 91% and 96%
of natural marble towhich resins and other
binders are added, sothat, through an
advanced technologicalprocess known as
“Engineered Stone”based on vacuum vibro-
compression, animproved product is
achieved betteringnatural stone while
maintaining its essenceand substantially
enhancing its functionalproperties and
decorative possibilities.
2
Technological marble came about throughadvanced vision of the limitations of natural Stonefor use in the modern construction tradestemming from its lack of uniformity and scarcityas a raw material.
COMPETITIVEADVANTAGES
Over-exploitation of quarries and the largequantity of unusable residues from stonequarrying were the cause for the search for aproduct capable of expressing new and innovativeaesthetic and functional ideas in modernarchitecture while at the same time respectingthe environment.
This contemporary, innovative product isCOMPAC’s technological marble, with whichunique, personalised projects can be designedbased on the tastes and needs of the end users.
Specialists prefer COMPAC technological marblebecause of its characteristics and quality:
With a hardness that is similar to natural stone, its resistance to impact and breakage is muchgreater owing to its enhanced flexibility.
This product is lighter and therefore easier totransport, handle and machine.
Its porosity is practically nil, and thereforeabsorption of water and other liquids is minimal, thus achieving a hygienic product that is botheasy to clean and maintain.
Unlike natural stone, technological marbleis uniform, and can be fitted to largesurfaces without breaks or differences incolour tone being noticeable.
Like natural stone, technological marble canbe polished, thus maintaining its shine andoriginal appearance for longer.
It is a versatile product insofar as colours, textures, sizes and applications are concerned, and can be used on floors, walls, bathroomvanity tops, building facades, staircases, fireplaces, door frames, etc.
Recommendations for useOwing to its special characteristics and
durability, technological marble is appropriatefor use as an advanced alternative to natural
stone or other construction materials in alarge number of applications.
n high transit surfaces (airports, stations, shopping malls, publicbuildings, etc.) where its uniformity, resistance, ease of maintenance anddecorative possibilities find the bestplace to show off their qualities.
O
his is a high performanceproduct for use indoors oroutdoors, since it keeps itsqualities even under extremeclimatic conditions.
T
ecause of its decorative capacity andpractically zero porosity, it is highlyrecommended for use at home, especially in bathrooms where it can beused to tile floors, walls or on vanity tops.
ecause it is both versatile and easy tohandle it is the ideal product for fittingand combining on staircases, fireplacesurrounds, door and window frames, cladding columns, furniture tops andmany other applications that permitdeveloping decorative projects onlylimited by one’s imagination.

Slabs are loaded onto lorries usinga crane, positioning the group ofslabs leaning lengthways along thelorry. The resting supports of thepieces imitate a double “A” shapesecured at the base. To avoidadjacent faces suffering damageduring transport, the material isprotected with polyethylenesheeting, and protective wax strips.
For container transport the slabsare positioned upright and securedby means of special pallets for slabs. It is also possible to use the samesystem as for lorry transport.
Measuring
Templates
Taking measurements for somepieces can be difficult. Thereforewe recommend the use of templatesin order to guarantee correctproduction of each piece.
Staircases
For staircases we recommendsending templates for making thefollowing pieces:
• Intermediate landing treads.
• Special starting step of a staircase.
• Hollow with light (send light ortemplate of the section).
Cladding
For cladding on irregular circularpillars, send a negative template ofthe section.

Fitting of floor tiles with glue mortar on technological marble surfaces.
The instructions of the glue mortar manufacturer should be followed for water addition and mix preparation time. We recommend the use of CLASS Cement based adhesives (prEN 12004) as per the European Standards (cement adhesive (C), improved (2)) type F55 Cermono Rápido by CERCOL,
Pegoland Fast fluido by Puma Group, Granirapid by MAPEI, among others. There are brands that specialise in special material for grouting expansionjoints.
If fitting in areas where the material will be subject to high thermal loads, Class R2 glue mortar should be used. To fit on special surfaces (ceramics andplaster) a suitable bonding agent should be chose for that surface.
Not meeting these fitting and maintenance instructions exempts the manufacturer from all liability through improper or imperfect fitting.
Fittinginstructions and
maintenance.
A In order to fit technologicalmarble, it must be taken intoaccount that the humidity contentsof the surface must be below 2%.If humidity is above this value, suitable waterproofing of thesurface will be necessary.
B Both the tiles and the floor mustbe clean, dry and dust free. Anygrease, paint or pollutants must becleaned off. The planimetrics of thesurface must not report anyvariations (sand + resin + cement).
C Level the floor with a levellingpaste. Spread the glue mortar onthe floor, using a serrated float, toa thickness of approximately 10 mm.
D Spread glue mortar on the reverseside of the tile using a serrated floatto a thickness of 6 to 8 mm (doublegluing).
E Fit the tiles one after the otherleaving expansion joints every 40m2.
Always leave a 5 mm perimeterexpansion joint and at least 2 mmbetween tiles.
When laying tiles outdoors, theminimum gap between tiles shouldbe at least 5 mm and partition jointsmust be carried out every 30 squaremetres. When fitting larger sizedtiles than standard, the gaps mustbe increased in proportion to thesize of the tiles.
F Tap the tiles using a rubber malletso that it is completely affixed toall the glue mortar.
G Clean the base mortar or anyother material that oozes betweenthe joins using a moist mop, beforegrouting.
H Apply the grout using whitecement grout (BL V 22.5 UNE80305 96) 24/48 hours afterwards. To fill in joins between tiles use groutcement in accordance with theStandard UNE EN 13888. There arecoloured cement grouts availableon the market that can be used forthis purpose.
I Completely clean off any groutremaining on the tiles immediately.
DO NOT LAY TILES WITHOUTSPACING GAPS
Daily
Clean off any sand or grit fromtransit by vacuuming. Clean usinga surface dust mop.
Clean any stains using a damp clothwithout any detergent.
Periodically
Application by means of a NilfiskBB.2N or Caselli x-2 vitrified waxingmachine followed by a coat of shineand finish with Nilfisk BB.3 or similar.
Depending on the frequency of useand the state of preservation, de-layering and de-scaling can becarried out using a disk polishercomprising aluminium filings, successively applying the followingcoats: de-layering and de-scalingwith Nilfisk BB.1 or Caselli x-1. Vitrify, shine and finish as describedpreviously.
