FISH BITES The Marlins open a 10-game homestand with the first of three contests against the Atlanta Braves tonight at 7:10 p.m. David Phelps is making his first career start and second appearance against the Braves, tossing 0.2 scoreless on April 7 of this season. He is being opposed by Julio Teheran, who in nine previous starts against the Fish has gone 5-1 with a 2.64 ERA. Tonight’s ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by Barry Williams, Missy Gotay-Cano and Frankie Barroso, while the National Anthem will be performed by Hollywood Hills High School Spartan Pride Bank. It is 70’s Night at Marlins Park, and fans who purchased the $25 VIP special event package will receive a Lexus Legends Level game ticket, Marlins 70’s Night T-shirt and a meet-and-greet with Barry Williams, who starred as Greg Brady on The Brady Bunch. The Lexus Legends Level will feature Studio 223, a small club/lounge that mimics Studio 54 of the 70’s. The Marlins are also honoring Missy Gotay-Cano as the club’s Honorary Bat Girl as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Miami’s homestand will continue on Monday with the first of four against the Arizona Diamondbacks, then will entertain the Baltimore Orioles for a three-game weekend set starting May 18. The Fish returned home off a 4-6 road swing to Washington (1-2), San Francisco (2-2) and Los Angeles (1-2). VS. THE BRAVES This three-game set marks the third meeting between the division rivals in 2015, with Miami trailing the series, 2-4. The Marlins were swept in a three-game series to open the season and took two of three at Turner Field from April 13-15. Miami trails the series in South Florida, 84-97, as well as the overall series, 152-212. WEDNESDAY The Marlins snapped their three-game slide with a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Miami took at 1-0 lead in the third inning on a RBI groundout by Giancarlo Stanton, and went up 2-0 in the top half of the fourth on a RBI single by Jarred Cosart. Los Angeles cut the lead to one in the bottom of the fourth, then took a two- run lead with three runs in the fifth. In the seventh, the Marlins tallied five straight hits to open the inning and came out of the frame with a 5-4 lead. Dee Gordon snapped a 0x8 skid with four hits in five at-bats, and Adeiny Hechavar- ria provided a two-hit effort. Cosart started for the Fish and did not receive a decision, allowing four runs on five hits (two home runs) and three walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings, leaving early with tightness in his right hamstring. Sam Dyson (2-0) earned the win and A.J. Ramos tossed a perfect ninth for his first career save. ELIAS SAYS... Dee Gordon’s hit parade continued on Wednesday night when he stroked two singles and two doubles in Los Angeles. Gordon became the first player since Marquis Grissom (2003 Giants) to have a four-hit game as a visitor at Dodger Stadium after playing for the Dodgers in the previous season. HITS KEEP COMING Since 1914, Dee Gordon has tied the third-highest hit total through the first 32 individual games played to start a season, equaling the mark done by Rod Carew in 1983, when he also tallied 58 hits for the California Angels over his first 32.
