Well, the big news here at the Marlborough Migrant Centre is that Rosimeire Cookson is going on maternity leave soon. We wish Rosimeire and her husband Chris all the best for the impending arrival of the newest member in their family, due in mid September. We would like to welcome Margaret Western to the team in (and out!) of the office of the Marlborough Migrant Centre (MMC). Margaret will be filling in as Marlborough Migrant Centre Fieldworker (contact cellphone number 022 657 9018) and Marlborough Newcomers Network Coordinator while Rosimeire is on maternity leave. Many of you will know Margaret in her previous role as Chairperson of the MMC. This leads us onto the news that the Annual General Meeting of the MMC will be held on Tuesday 20 September at 7:00pm here at Marlborough House. See you here! Warmest greetings to all of you. Winter is still here with cold, wild, windy and wet weather! Remember that we have some very supportive community organisations here in Marlborough. So, if you are having trouble keeping warm, please contact us. We can refer you to agencies and organisations that can help. Newcomers Network Coffee mornings! Twice every month at Marlborough House, 21 Henry Street, corner George and Henry Streets, Blenheim. Come along for a chat and meet other people new to Marlborough. Next coffee morning: Wednesday 24 August at 10:30am

Newcomers Network Potluck Dinner Once every two months from 6:00pm at Marlborough House, 21 Henry Street, corner George and Henry Streets, Blenheim. Please bring a plate of food, enough for you or your family, and some to share. This is a great chance to try different food and ask for recipes, and to meet new people and share experiences! Next potluck: Will be confirmed soon.

Newcomers Network Sewing Group Would you like to learn some basic sewing skills or share your skills? Would you like to get together with others and learn how to mend simple things in your clothes? Bring along your sewing and/or your craft project. Come along for our next meeting. Next sewing group: Will be advised soon. Newcomers Network Afternoon Tea Usually held from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Marlborough House (21 Henry Street, Blenheim). Another opportunity to get together. Everyone welcome. Another opportunity to get together. Crafts will be organised for children. You are welcome to bring some home baking to share. Next afternoon tea: Will be advised soon. Do you live in Picton or Renwick? We are in the process of finding a place to hold activities in these places. We can start by going out for a coffee in some of the nice Cafes around. Please contact us so we can arrange a time and a place. We are always looking for new ideas for regular activities (eg movie nights, chess club, book club etc) and people wanting to help run these. Please get in touch if you would like to become an activities coordinator! Volunteer Marlborough Volunteer Marlborough acts as a central resource to promote and foster volunteering in the Marlborough region. If you want to volunteer, we can help find a suitable role in the community by matching your individual skills and interests with a large number of groups who welcome volunteers. Volunteering can help you integrate into a new community and build valuable skills for the future. Our aim is to ensure a positive and fulfilling experience for all volunteers. We provide:

• Referral and support for volunteers • Volunteer Manager Peer Network • Advice and Mentoring to support Not for Profit Organisations • Workshops and training • Promotion and recognition of Volunteering

• Stadium 2000 on Kinross St, has a great public swimming pool, holiday programmes for children and a gym offering different sports classes. Visit them or call: 577 8300.

• The Parents Centre runs child birth education classes for new parents (evenings) and a popular ‘baby and you’ course (day time) for mums and new babies. These run about 6 times a year with people grouped together depending on babies’ birth dates. These then continue as more informal coffee groups. Contact the Parents Centre.
